Hair Contouring Is The Hairstyle Upgrade We All Need

Sometimes, it can feel like everyone’s getting a little too obsessed with contouring. We don’t think Kim K is entirely to blame; it all just stems from how people just like their face to look smaller and their facial structure more defined, in general. That’s why our vanity tables are overflowing with bronzing and highlighting powders, creams, and all kinds of sculpting brushes – and we don’t think this trend is abating anytime soon.
Might as well take it to the next level then, and get acquainted with hair contouring. Nope, we’re not about to get bronzers and highlighters for the hair – not yet, anyway – but rather, the term refers to a more holistic way of styling the hair that includes the way it’s cut and coloured.
L’Oréal Professionnel is launching full-fledged hair contouring services in a number of its partner salons, and your appointment will always start off with the hairstylist diagnosing your face shape (because it’s not always obvious to the untrained eye), plus skin tone and facial features to decide on your customised cut-and-colour combination. The precise placement of highlights and lowlights, and the angles at which your locks are cut, all contribute to the optical illusion that is a more defined facial structure and a healthier skin tone. Never anything wrong with faking it a little.
Here are some general techniques the hairstylist will use to contour your face, depending on your facial shape. Of course, no such thing as one size fits all here, so it’s still best to book your appointment, and let your hairstylist give his or her expert opinion.
Rectangular/Oval

LP_CONTOURING_021-1_111_RED LP_CONTOURING_011_124_RED

With these face shapes, the roots and inside parts of your hair will be kept a dark colour, which creates a shadow around the top of the head and around the jawline, to soften the angles there. If you have a more angular jaw, one way to make it look more oval is to weave in a lighter highlight in front of the ears, creating an ombre effect.
Square/Round
LP_CONTOURING_010_043_RED LP_CONTOURING_020_007_180615_RED

To make the face appear narrower, hair at the top of the head it kept lighter in colour, with darker shades at the sides of the face to create shadows there and provide a slimming effect.
Heart-shaped/Triangular
LP_CONTOURING_012_046_RED LP_CONTOURING_022_053_RED

These two face shapes also require a darker colour at the top of the head. Your stylist might also paint on colour starting from the middle of your hair length, to better balance out a narrow chin.

So, in this case it’s your hair that helps your cheekbones pop better, or softens an angular jawline, or narrows a wide forehead. You might just be able to put those bronzers and highlighters aside for good after your next trip to the salon.

The L’Oréal Professionnel Hair Contouring service is priced from $150. Price varies depending on individual salons’ service prices and hair length. Available at L’Oréal Professionnel salons including Salon Vim, Salon #1, NK Hairworks, Formula Cut, Hair Inn, Toni & Guy, Pro Trim, Apgujeong, Kimage and Crescendo. Book your appointment on the Vaniday mobile app or on vaniday.com.sg.

Oversized Denim Jackets Are Our New Obsession

Fact: We love outerwear. Another fact: Singapore weather is not made for outerwear. So it usually means either never letting all our beloved jackets and sweaters see the light of day, or taking the brave leap to wear them out, and then slowly melting into a puddle in the afternoon sun, while wrapped up in all our fashionable layers (times when “suffer for fashion” never rang more true).
Yet, we keep buying outerwear anyway, because it simply can’t be denied that they are a wardrobe staple, and an easy way to immediately make any outfit look more put together. So here, we want to share our latest outerwear obsession: denim jackets, and not just regular denim jackets – they must be oversized ones, because we’ve found that they offer a loose yet structured and somewhat masculine silhouette that we can contrast with a more feminine outfit underneath, or top off a tomboyish look. And most importantly, they’re super comfy.
These jackets also don’t have to be boring. Aside from the classic styles, here are some more options for a quick way to add plenty of interest to your outfit.

The classic style
Can’t go wrong with a regular denim wah. Not too dark, not too light, and with a nice lived-in look, this will go well with most outfits.

Embroidery details

Frayed edges
This is the kind of wear and tear we can embrace. The mix of denim washes and the patchwork pockets help make this piece even more intriguing – check out the uneven hems at the bottom too.

Colour blocking
Everything goes well with black; this colourblocked jacket gives a strong street style vibe. Bonus points for adding a baseball cap.

White denim
There’s obviously plenty going on with this jacket, but we love the whale motif at the back the most. White denim leaves plenty of room for fun details like these.

Blazer cut
It won’t look too formal or corporate if you wear it in a slouchy silhouette and pair it with a casual outfit, and definitely not when it comes with slogans emblazoned on the back like this.

A Trip Down Memory Lane : Project Runway Style

Lets face it – we’ve all indulged in our guilty pleasure and spent our Friday nights binge watching seasons of Project Runway before. No? Really? Well, we still can’t deny how ridiculously entertaining it is to watch designers manoeuvre around materials such as newspaper and candy to create ravishing avant-garde looks. As we brace ourselves for the upcoming 15th season dropping next month, we’re revisiting our top favourite looks from past seasons’ designers. Somehow, we remember every episode from the past 14 seasons rather clearly. We all deserve a drink.
Michelle Lesniak – The Dress We’d Kill To Own

A photo posted by Couture (@couturelayering) on

The winner of season 11 surely deserved her title. We like to be reminded of the fact that this was designed 3 years ago, and is, by some means, still relevant today. Lesniak played to her strengths in leather manipulation and integration of textiles in this strong opening piece of her winning collection. We want to know how Lesniak might have predicted the comeback of colour-blocking and bishop sleeves in 2016. Seriously, does anyone have a clue?

Irina Shabayeva – The Newspaper Coat

A photo posted by dressandtress12 (@yakiduwol) on

Ah yes, who can forget? Shabayeva’s iconic coat made entirely out of newspaper. Newspapers are tough – we can’t even get through the first few pages without it crumpling or suffering some minor folds and tears. We can’t fathom how the designer could have crafted such sleek lines and the juxtaposition of the ‘fur collar’s convolution with our daily read. Extending a solid kudos to Shabayeva for such fine attention to detail and craftsmanship just isn’t enough to cut it.

Christian Siriano & Chris March – The Wearable Art Sculpture

A photo posted by Couture (@couturelayering) on

When Christian Siriano guided his partner in this challenge to create one of the most unforgettable pieces of the show since it started running, we were practically convinced that the future multi-millionaire was going to be crowned the winner (we were right) of season 4. The Elizabethan-inspired gown towered (literally) over our expectations of what the term avant-garde should mean, and remains as one of the top-notch creations the show has ever seen. This look belongs in a museum, we’ll gladly pay to ogle at this for hours.

Sean Kelly – The Rain Dress

A photo posted by dressandtress12 (@yakiduwol) on

When Sean Kelly quick-wittedly sew pockets of red and yellow dye into the seams of his dress (Which would run in contact with water. Duh, it’s dye.), it practically took over our social media platform for weeks. You don’t have to be a fan to have seen the video of this glorious transformation of – what used to be – a sweet white dress right on the runway itself. Kelly took the challenge, which was to design a dress that would withstand stipulated pouring rain on the runway, up a notch with this calculated challenge of embracing the circumstances instead of fighting it. Done, and done … Sorry contestants, the title of season 13’s winner already belonged to Sean Kelly after this amazing feat.

Anya Young-Chee – The Islander’s Essential

A photo posted by Couture (@couturelayering) on

The first look of Anya’s winning collection in season 9’s finale reminded us of where we wish we could be at this instant – a tropical paradise. This fresh resort outfit harnesses Anya’s love for prints and island aesthetics successfully, effusing total beach goddess vibes. The risqué neckline seemed to work its magic here, giving the otherwise modest dress a sultry punch. And don’t get us started on that beautiful watercolour print which resembles a sub-aquatic spectacle. You can’t possibly put a price on this; but if you did, we’ll definitely be the first to bid.

Pandora Recently Launched 3 Collections – And They're All To Die For

The house of genuine, exquisite jewellery recently unveiled a stunning array of 2016 Autumn, Winter and Rose Collections at an exclusive cocktail reception last week. There was much buzz surrounding the glamorous event, which comes as no surprise to us, with the arrival of the South Korean starlet Tiffany Hwang from popular Kpop girl group Girls’ Generation. The evening of cocktail-sipping and light-hearted fun by the city skyline was honestly the sort of spirit (come on guys, we’re not referring to the alcohol) we admire from PANDORA – elegance and a sophisticated sense of joviality. Take it from us, PANDORA sure knows how to throw a party.

But that’s not the only thing PANDORA wants to represent. PANDORA’s new campaign, ‘Unique As We Are’, celebrates the multifaceted woman and her spirit in expressing herself through all mediums – which is in line with Tiffany’s independence and abilities in her field of work. We’re inspired by PANDORA’s global outreach with this compelling message, and their journey to honour women from all walks of lives.

We can’t be more ecstatic to celebrate the lustre of life with these new collections, which were all inspired by the wonders of the natural world. Individually hand-finished as always, these new must-haves come in shapes of ice crystals and gold leaves this season. Looks like PANDORA has decided to go a little vintage with the stunning Autumn collection, which will be dropping next month, with its gorgeous fall hues, crystals, pearls, and cubic zirconia gems. We’re especially psyched about the PANDORA Rose collection, featuring rose hued jewellery which are all the rage right now. There’s nothing better than matching a set of PANDORA jewellery with our new iPhones, are we right? Another charm to add on to our PANDORA bracelets? Don’t mind us.

9 Great Features of Fujifilm’s Latest Mirror-less Camera – the X-T2

FUJIFILM X-T2

Not convinced that mirror-less cameras are the way to go? Well, you might just change your mind with FUJIFILM’s latest creation – the X-T2. Perfect for budding photographers or seasoned pros, this easy-to-use, slick-looking shooter has plenty of awesome features that possibly makes it one of THE cameras to get this year. Here are nine of our favourite features:
All the dials are perfect

FUJIFILM X-T2

We cannot stress how important it is for a camera to have great dials, and with the X-T2, there are dedicated dials for setting functions like ISO, shutter speed or exposure compensation. Not to mention, it looks pretty swanky as well.
The camera body is fully metal
Good riddance to cheap imported plastic bodies. This baby’s made of solid magnesium alloy. In addition to looking good, it feels good, especially when you hold it in both hands.
It has awesome autofocus
The major difference between the X-T2 and DSLRS is that when you shoot with the X-T2, you’re more likely to get impressive sharpness and great exposure most of the time. This is ideal for photography enthusiasts who are just starting out.
Colour Reproduction is top-notch
FUJIFILM X-T2

You can put this down to the 24.3-megapixel X-Trans CMOS III, which is basically an APS-C sensor that has no low-pass filter boasting. There’s also the X-Processor Pro high-speed image-processing engine, which ensures the colours and tones in your photos and videos are always great quality.
Count in 4k Video
That’s right, the X-T2 is capable of churning out impeccable 4K resolution videos, and amateur directors can also use the film simulation modes available, eliminating the need to colour grade in post-production! In addition, there’s also audio volume live monitoring and a 3.5mm microphone socket.
There’s a Power Booster Grip
One of the X-T2’s major selling points is its ‘Power Booster Grip’, which is essentially a vertical battery grip that carries an additional two batteries. Those moments where you spotted something really cool, but ran out of battery to shoot it, won’t happen again, you can count on that. The grip also enhances the X-T2’s maximum continuous shooting rate, as well as increasing video recording time to 30 minutes.
The LCD screen is pretty sweet
FUJIFILM X-T2

Need to take those really difficult flat-lay shots for Instagram? No worries. The X-T2 has got you covered with its rotating LCD screen that moves up and down with ease. It can even tilt out to the right if you’re attempting those really tricky shots in tight spaces.
It’s weather resistant
Thanks to its magnesium alloy body, the X-T2 is extremely resistant to harsh weather conditions, and can even operate in temperatures down to -10°C!
You can’t forget Wireless Communication
With the X-T2, transferring photos to your smartphone or tablet is extremely simple. All you’ve got to do is download FUJIFILM’s free “Camera Remote” app, and voila, your beautiful pictures will be in the images gallery, waiting to be sent over to family or friends, or posted on social media.
And it’s a just pretty cool camera at the end of the day.
FUJIFILM X-T2

There’s no denying it. FUJIFILM’s latest mirror-less camera creation is definitely on point, both in terms of features and aesthetics. Plus, it just really looks super cool too.
The FUJIFILM X-T2 is retailing at $2599 (with 18-55mm kit lens) and is available from 8 September onwards. Local availability has yet to be announced.

Here Are The Coolest Collections of IKEA’s 2017 Catalogue

From taking a stroll in winding lanes filled with lovely furniture to gobbling down Swedish meatballs, everyone loves taking a visit IKEA every now and then. And with the release of their 2017 catalogue, there’s even more reason to head down to the Swedish furniture giant! To make your life easier, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to list down the coolest collections to check out, lest you miss out on it.
SÄLLSKAP

IKEA SÄLLSKAP
Saying that something has a modern twist comes off as a little cheesy these days, but somehow, this notion doesn’t apply to IKEA. Their SÄLLSKAP collection takes inspiration from 19th and 20th century Scandinavian art, and combines beautiful aesthetics with great functionality. In this collection, customers can look forward to furniture pieces that also act as a storage units, quirky lamps, colourful textiles, and dinnerware with minimalist compositions, all designed with the idea of bringing out Swedish traditions, and infusing it with contemporary touches.
SVÄRTAN
IKEA SVÄRTAN
Home of the mandala, rangoli, and Holi festival, there’s really no better place to experience vivid colours than in India. However, IKEA designer Martin Bergström wanted to switch things up a little, and feature a different side of the country with his SVÄRTAN collection. So he, along with a bunch of Indian fashion students, came up with a collection that is the total anarchist of traditional Indian colours. Think textiles, glassware, ceramics, metal objects, and bed linen that only come in black, white and grey.
POÄNG 40th
POÄNG 40th
One of IKEA’s classics, the POÄNG armchair was designed by Japanese designer Noboru Nakamura some 40 years ago, and for 2017’s collection, the Swedish furniture giant will be introducing an additional new frame and six different colours to the existing variety of frame plus cushion combinations. Now how’s that for celebrating four decades of being in the market?
SLADDA Bicycle
Sladda bicycle
We’re always down for anything that’s environmentally friendly, and that includes this new bicycle from IKEA. Titled the “SLADDA Bicycle”, this sweet-looking two-wheeler comes in a clean design that definitely connects with our minimalist sensibilities. After all, it didn’t snag a Red Dot Design Award for nothing. Specs-wise, the bike chain isn’t of the typical metal variety. Instead, the chain is made out of rubber, making it rust and oil-free. There’s also a ‘click system’ for you to attach accessories like trailers or a basket. Perfect if you’ve got loads of stuff to carry along with you.
Sladda Bicycle
IKEA’s catalogue will be out on 25th August 2016. Click here to visit their website for more information.

The Most Popular Lipstick Shades From Your Favourite Brands

There’s a reason why with each lip colour line, certain shades always fly off the physical and virtual shelves the quickest. These specific colours are often so coveted because of how universally flattering they are, and sometimes the demand is helped along by whatever trend happens to be big at the moment, be it via social media or Korean dramas. Here are 5 particularly popular shades from our favourite lipstick ranges.

Kat Von D Beauty Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita

kat von d

No one’s surprised that the most popular shade from Kat Von D’s wildly successful range of matte liquid lipsticks is a brown-toned nude; social media has really done a good job at propelling this colour family into everyone’s lipstick wish lists. Lolita has reddish undertones, which helps in not making you look washed out; the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick is already Sephora’s bestselling lipstick line over in the USA, which basically makes this the most popular lipstick in the entire of Sephora USA. It has done so well that Kat Von D created Lolita II as a follow up – this one is brighter and more orangey, which might work better on darker skin tones.
$31, available at Sephora.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Backtalk

urban decay

Yes, another nude: Urban Decay’s Backtalk is a mauve-nude pink in the Comfort Matte finish, a creamier and therefore less drying alternative to the super-matte liquid lipsticks out there. The on-trend shade coupled with the finish has gotten Backtalk into Urban Decay Chief Creative Officer Wende Zomnir’s top 10 picks from the collection, as well as into the coveted spot as the #1 shade, a big deal, since the Vice range is made up of a whopping 100 lipstick colours.
$29, available at Urban Decay stores and Sephora.

Yves Saint Laurent Beauté Rouge Pur Couture in #1 Le Rouge

ysl

Can’t go wrong with a classic red, and that’s why this warm-toned version is the most iconic shade in YSL Beauté popular Rouge Pur Couture collection. Its popularity is due to how its pretty much flattering for most skin tones, and has a formula that goes onto the skin super-pigmented, without drying out the lips. Sure, the shade #52 Rosy Coral had a big moment when Korean drama My Love From The Stars was airing, but in the end, a failsafe red still stands the test of trends and time.
$58, available at Yves Saint Laurent Beauté stores and counters.

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Anita

nars

A photo posted by @himisschew on

NARS got everything right with their Audacious range of lipsticks, from the moisturising, high-impact colour, to the satin finish, and down to the sleek all-black packaging with the magnetic closure. The 40 shades covered a whole spectrum of colours, but unsurprisingly, many flocked to Anita, a rose that makes for a perfect everyday colour for all skin tones.

Dior Rouge Dior in 999

dior

Again, classic red wins. Since this lipstick was released way back in 1953, this statement red has become a colour representative of the entire house of Dior, proving a favourite of women everywhere with its flattering satin finish. The original 999 will always have a place on our vanities, but you’ll definitely want to check out the new Rouge Dior range that includes the 999 Matte, for a modern-day take on this famous shade.
$49, available at Dior Beauty stores and counters.

A Breakdown On The Style Evolution Of Your Favourite Twins: The Olsens

The Olsens turned 30 a couple of months ago, and we’ve been having an identity crisis ever since. Seriously, how old do you feel now? We practically grew up watching these adorable starlets, and there’s nothing more we’d love to do than to revisit some of their most iconic looks to date. From toddlers in the hit sitcom series Full House to top sartorial fashion icons of our century, we just can’t get enough of these winsome twins.

1993 – The time where they were all matchy-matchy.

1998 – 2000 – The time where all wanted floating butterfly clips because of them.

p.s. Also check out their endearing red-blue coordination. We’re guessing that Harley Quinn might have taken a few notes from these twins regarding outfit coordination.

2001 – 2002 – The time where they embodied sophistication and glam, but still wanted to make it evident that they were twins.

2003 – The time where Mary-Kate pulled off the bohemian look better than anybody at Coachella ever did

#marykateandashley We love these girls

2005 – When they looked better styled down than we ever did styled up.
This was also the year we spent wondering why we looked more comparable to a homeless vagabond when we tried to pull off Ashley’s messy ponytail.

2006 – The time where the fashion world started taking them seriously.
And we did too, despite the fact that Mary-Kate paired a red beanie with a couture gown at a Christian Dior event.

2010 – 2013 – The time where these dresses made us want nothing more than to be an Olsen triplet.

2014 – The time we learnt our lesson from the messy pony, and avoided the ‘homeless chic look’ (even though we loved it so much) .

2015 – The time where the Olsens couldn’t stop wearing their label The Row.
And looked nothing less than stunning in every single look.

2016 – When everyone at the Met Gala wished they could head home for an outfit change when these two showed up looking like that.

Lighten Up During Your Weekends With The Upcoming Singapore Night Festival

We’ve set our weekends aside for the highly-anticipated ninth instalment of the Singapore Night Festival. It usually doesn’t take more than the prospect of a night of imaginative performances and unconventional light art installations for us to get so enthusiastically involved, but with the line-up this year, we’re full on counting down the days to this enthralling festival set in the Bras Basah – Bugis precinct.

Screen Shot 2016-08-10 at 10.13.10 AM
We’re talking roving street performances by a stellar group of local and international artists from the likes of Singapore’s funkiest power-packed trio HubbaBubbas, to the hauntingly dreamy acoustics of Australian band Frida. This year’s festival offers us the chance to grab an exclusive collector’s edition ez-link card. We’re also presented with a showcase of local artworks specifically chosen in light of this year’s theme : Inventions and Innovations.

Your Favourite Chucks Are Now Water-Repellent

“Shields up! Go to red alert.” It’s a common phrase uttered by many a formidable captain in the Star Trek universe, and as far removed as we are from space travel, hey, we can kind of relate. Every time the skies turn an ugly shade of grey and the rain gets heavier, we run for shelter – not to save our hair, not really, but to make sure our favourite pair of white sneakers stays dry, safe from the awful calamity that is… wet socks. There you go, we could do with some shields then.

converse 1

Conveniently so, Converse happens to impress us with their all-new Shield Canvas collection, fitting their chucks with water-repellent technology that leaves our feet dry even in torrential weather. While the new designs retain the old canvas and rubber that has made the All Star a household name, we’re now getting a major upgrade in the form of some fancy tech, more specifically, the Counter Climate Shield Canvas technology that does exactly what it says: shield us from the elements. On top of that, each shoe has a gusseted tongue that protects our feet from extra dampness, and a reflective heel counter for added visibility in low light conditions. Maybe they’re not as advanced as the deflector shields on board the USS Enterprise, but thankfully, we don’t have to battle with phasers, set to kill, and ruthless alien species either. Just, water. We don’t know which one’s more menacing, really.

Converse Shield Canvas Collection, $109.90 for the low cut models and $119.90 for the hi cut models, available at all Converse stores. converse.com.sg

5 Of The Coolest Watch Brands Right Now

With all the aesthetically-pleasing timepieces these brands keep putting out, no wonder we can’t stop collecting them. Here are the under-the-radar watch brands we’re currently kind of obsessed with, and we’re willing to bet that you’ll soon be too.
Komono

komono 1 komono 2
komono 3 komono 4
(all images: Komono Facebook page)

This Belgian brand has been a longtime favourite, and we count the oversized Winston design one of our watch staples whether with a classic leather strap in a variety of colourways (the Winston Regal), or a more delicate steel mesh wristband (that would be the Winston Royale). While Komono’s definitely good at making minimalist watches, what we like is how they always keep things interesting with interesting prints and textures on their straps, such as on the Wizard Print Series and the Cork Series. By the way: they do really great sunglasses as well.

This Italy-based brand has a unique selling point: its watch designs aren’t by a dedicated design team, but rather created through collaborations with various designers, artists, celebrities… or basically anyone they think could come up with an interesting watch. What we’re into is the unique conical-shaped dial of the Volare design, made especially sleek in brushed metal and a mesh wristband.

If you’re all about the monochrome when it comes to your wardrobe, this Swedish brand will fit right in. It says its pieces take inspiration from “design and architectural trends found in Stockholm’s artistic Södermalm district”, which is basically one of the chicest places on earth, so these watches are decidedly more fashion-forward. Just see the zippered edge of the black leather strap on the Avant collection to get what we mean.

London College of Fashion grads Lesa Bennett and Jemma Fennings saw a gap in the watch market for feminine and fashionable timepieces, and thus Olivia Burton was born in 2012. The designs are unabashedly feminine, but we like how the oversized dials contrast with the thin straps that come in leather, steel mesh or bracelet options. Choose one with animal or floral motifs, if you really want to turn your watch into a fashion accessory.

The name and aesthetic of this brand might imply a Scandinavian background, but AÃRK Collective is actually the brainchild of four Melbourne-based creatives who have proven themselves to be really good at balancing a clean, minimalist aesthetic with unexpectedly fun geometric details. Their watches also show us that we really don’t need numerics on our watch faces.

squarestreet’s SQ38 ‘PLANO’ Watch is Ultra-thin, and Supremely Classy

squarestreet SQ38 'PLANO' Watch

If you’re looking for a watch that’s classy, yet affordable, it looks like squarestreet’s SQ38 ‘PLANO’ watch is perfect for you. Named after the Spanish word for “flat”, this exquisite unisex timepiece is the Scandinavian fashion label’s slimmest watch to date, with a watch face that only measures 36mm.

squarestreet PLANO watch

Fans of Neo-classicism will appreciate the watch’s stylish, antique look, while in terms of features, the PLANO can boast of the Swiss 715 movement by Ronda, enabling this baby to have an impressive 42 months of battery life, coupled with a three-hand readout and date indication.

Despite its dainty size, the PLANO is also pretty solid when it comes to water resistance. The exterior of the watch can handle up to 50 metres of static water pressure, so swimmers can go about their usual laps without worrying about leaving their watch outside the pool.
Design-wise, there are different variations offered in polished gold or PVD coated matte black stainless steel. As for the colourways, you can choose between black, gold, navy, army, sky, camel and leaf combos.

Overall, the ‘PLANO’ doesn’t venture into high-end territory with its retail price of US$265. The great thing about this product though, is that it doesn’t look cheap in any way whatsoever, making it a great mid-range purchase for all watch lovers, both young and old.

The Most Breathtaking Wedding Dresses Of The Century

We understand what it must be like to go a little bridezilla-esque nuts when it comes to your own wedding. And if you’re like us, you’ll find those hours spent crying over the wrong colour of invites futile when you hear envious gasps while walking down the aisle. That’s right people, we’ll gladly turn all our attention to the wedding dress – but more specifically in this article, the top 5 most gorgeous gowns we’ve ever seen from our favourite celebrities.
Ciara – Roberto Cavalli

We really should have caught on earlier to the fact that the word ‘Princess’ is in Ciara’s name, maybe then we wouldn’t have been that surprised when the beautiful starlet graced through her wedding day looking as though she had just stepped out of a fairytale. We’re big fans when it comes to voluminous gowns and long trains (honestly guys, who doesn’t want to feel like royalty on their big day?) but zooming in on the details, we’ve got to say that the stunning embroidery truly stole the show. The element of wheat motif embroidery – a symbol of prosperity and happiness – ran through the length of Ciara’s trousseau, which we felt was a really heart-warming gesture on the designer’s part.

Molly Fishkin – The Olsen Twins
We’re honestly so jealous right now. Can we just say that Mary-Kate and Ashley ravishingly pulled off their first ever attempt at designing a wedding dress? Well okay, that would be an understatement. Just look at how radiant the blushing bride looks in this scallop-trimmed neckline head-to-toe lace gown. The bell sleeves, undeniably, is the most striking detail of the gown. The twins, who grew up closely with the stylist, jumped at the opportunity of designing her wedding dress the moment they heard of her engagement. But we’re guessing that we aren’t the only ones wishing for them to venture into wedding couture more often. On another note, we’d love to be childhood friends with the Olsen twins too. Where can we sign up?

Kim Kardashian – Givenchy
Nevermind the fact that Kimye’s wedding was billed as ‘the wedding of the year’,  Kim’s dress by itself was enough to triumph over any other A-lister’s wedding. We’re trying our best to ignore the fact that the King and Queen of pop stardom spent 4 days prepping and editing the Instagram photo of their wedding kiss, and focus on how spectacular Kim really looked it her sheer-back, tight framed custom-made Givenchy creation. There is no simply no comparison here, Kim now owns the world of sweetheart tables, embossed place cards and tussie-mussies with this one ground-breaking ensemble which exclusively to her, screams sex appeal.

Solange Knowles – Kenzo
It must be tough to always be referred to as ‘Beyonce’s younger sister’ despite having carved out a remarkable career for herself. And that’s why we practically gave Solange Knowles a standing ovation two years ago when she emerged sleek and elegant in a stunning Kenzo gown. That was a clear indicator that more than one star runs in the Knowles household, as her impeccable look paired with gold cuffs earned her a reputable laid-back sensibility. It was about time the equally dazzling sister stepped out of Queen Bey’s shadow!

Angelina Jolie – Versace
What’s not to love about a gorgeous humanitarian worker and social activist like Angelina Jolie herself? But no one can really match the amount of love Angelina’s kids share for their remarkable mother, especially after an endearing display of affection which came in the form of their doodles on her dress. We heard nothing but ‘awww‘s and ‘oooh‘s when Angie appeared on the cover of People magazine in 2014, looking nothing less than phenomenal in a dress hand-stitched by tailor Luigi Massi, and covered with her children’s doodles. The children, whom Brad and Angelina wanted to be largely involved in their big day (seriously, we’re in tears right now), thoughtfully drew airplanes and motorbikes – Angie and Brad’s respective passions – quirky monsters, and even an adorable family portrait of all of them together. We think its time to cue the ‘awww‘s once again.

The Alvin Tan x Onitsuka Tiger Stripes Collaboration Which Shook The Design Scene

We’ve got our party hats and blowers on as Onitsuka Tiger Stripes prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary. We’re more than thrilled to witness such longstanding zest from these versatile kicks! But we can’t seem to outdo Alvin Tan from the design collective PHUNK, as he designs a reinterpretation of the iconic MEXICO 66 in his own vision in collaboration with the beloved sneaker brand.

We’re pretty much in love with the aesthetic of these shoes. Alvin took the classic MEXICO 66 and coated it in metallic finish, but not before re-imagining it with a sleek camel lining and rainbow lattice shoelaces. His piece, entitled The Reflection Of Colours And Silver Linings, depicts his take on the wonders and positivity in life through companionship. We’re more than marvelled by this thoughtful creation, and pridefully so, considering how distinctive the design looks.

For all you sneaker junkies out there, be sure to check out Alvin’s pensive piece at the Onitsuka Tiger Stripes 50th Anniversary exhibition the next time you’re in town. You’ll also be able to catch Onitsuka Tiger Stripe’s recent Fall/Winter collection, The Art Of Mixing, as well as the other 50 artist collaborations which we’re equally as psyched about.

Say Farewell to Tanjong Pagar Railway Station at the “Fantastic Thai Market”

Having been around for almost a century, Tanjong Pagar Railway Station undoubtedly holds a special place in many people’s hearts.
After all, it was built way before the Causeway and the MRT even began construction. Unfortunately, there won’t be many more opportunities for people to visit this historic place in the near future, with a major renovation slated to commence at the end of 2016.
Thankfully, the good folks from Fleaware aren’t having any of that. Come 12 September, the flea organisers will hold the “Fantastic Thai Market” at the beloved heritage site, where visitors can look forward to yummy food and cool merchandise from over 100 vendors, some of which will be “Thai-themed”.

Fantastic Thai Market, Tanjong Pagar Railway Station

In addition, food trucks Kerbside Gourmet and Kombi Rocks will also make special appearances at the event, while there’ll also be awesome live music in the form of bands.
So whether you’re heading down to revel in nostalgia or to experience a slice of the past, there’s no denying that a fun-filled shindig like this is a pretty rad way to celebrate the history of the place, especially before it becomes Cantonment MRT station in 2025.
Tanjong Pagar Railway Station Singapore

We just hope that there’ll be at least a few more similar events before the area closes up for the next decade.
The Fantastic Thai Market is happening on 12 September from 10am to 6pm, and will be held at Tanjong Pagar Railway Station.
