We’re finally getting our hands on military grade timepieces by the Switzerland-based Military Watch Company. Besides being a timepiece supplier for the military, police forces, anti-terrorists units and more, MWC has a range of aesthetic watches that are made of components of superior quality. Here are some of the timepieces that you might want to get your hands on, because well, if it’s made for the military, there’s no doubt about its resistance and durability.
The A-11 1940s WWII Pattern Military Watch (left) is an automatic watch inspired largely by the original World War Two design from 1943 while the quartz GG-W-113 US 1960s Pattern Military Watch reflects the specification that was set out by the US Government for Infantry watches. Both feature a classic design that will definitely go well with any coordinates.
This stainless steel PVD Plated G10 Stealth watch comes in a beautiful matt black finish, that is made via a special chemical PVD plating process that promises long-wearing quality. Since it’s meant for use by the Special Forces, it’s definitely resistant and well-equipped for any heavy-duty activities. So if you’re a heavy user, you needn’t worry about any of that darned wear and tear.
This particular G10 LM Military Watch with 12/24 Hour Pattern NATO Dial features impact resistant glass, which not only makes it resistant to scratches, it also gives the watch a sleek shine and clean appearance. In Olive Green and Black, there’s an incredible night time visibility with a glow in the dark function, thanks to Super-Luminova. Also, the ones in Black Strap, Desert Strap and Grey Strap are the latest G10 models that have screw strap pins, allowing you to switch easily between watches designed with civilian spring pins as well.
With an additional crown protection, wider strap and a thicker bezel design, MWC really takes it up a notch with the MWC Military Diver that boasts a more durable casing than the others, making it the watch for heavy duty. Even if you’re not a diver like the name suggests, the watch’s intricate detailing and oversized silhouette makes it an aesthetic accessory on it’s own. Besides, a watch with an added protection is always a plus – especially for those clumsy folks.
Available in 4 colourways with muted palettes, these Limited Edition US Desert Pattern Vietnam Watches are identical in appearance as those worn by the American troops during the Vietnam War. Well, with improvements of course. While still maintaining its appearance and weight, these watches are now constructed in full metal, as compared to plastic ones worn by the military in the past. Can we also talk about how the beige hues are really just the perfect colour to adorn?
MWC Military Watches, from $119, available now at select Anté stores.
It’s been nearly three decades since we were introduced to Nike’s iconic Air Max 1 and since then, Nike has been constantly revamping Air Max, each with its easily recognisable visible air sole. With the Air Max’s lightweight design and comfortable sole, it’s not surprising how we’re always so drawn to the Nike Air Max in different colours and designs, time after time. And as usual, Nike’s back to entice us with its Air Max 1, but this time, it’s the lightest one yet. By bringing together the breakthrough Flyknit technology that features a featherweight knitted design and the familiar silhouette of the Nike Air Max 1, what we get is a pair that’s really the best of both worlds.
Helmed by the project’s lead designer Ben Yun, the pair is designed to be extremely breathable, with an open Flyknit construction in the toe and tongue for ventilation and closed construction in the heel to ensure support and comfort. The pair also features the iconic Air Max air sole, something that we really can’t do without.
Nike Air Max 1 Ultra Flyknit, $285, available now at Nike Store Shaw Lido and SEEK Ion.
We all know that moment when we bump into a stranger on the streets sporting the same bag or outfit, and there begins the half-lidded stares of contempt and an intense (mental) battle of “who wore it better”. If you’ve always been one who’s truly afraid of these moments, you’ll definitely thank Louis Vuitton for putting an end to these taxing street showdowns.
Louis Vuitton’s new Bandouliere collection features a range of colourful leather accessories that will add a touch of style and individuality to your city bags such as the Alma, Speedy and the City Steamer.
These beautiful leather straps are made from either Monogram canvas, Epi and Python leather, so you can take your pick amongst these luxurious leathers that are meticulously designed in several colours and styles. Each Bandouliere has the softest cowhide leather lining, and they each bear the iconic Louis Vuitton initial, subtle Haute Maroquinerie details as well as 2 polished golden or silver practical snap hooks. The best part? You’ll also be able to hotstamp your initials on the leather straps, adding an even more personalised touch to your bags.
Here’s your chance now if you’ve always been afraid of looking too common.
Louis Vuitton Bandouliere collection, from $680, available at Louis Vuitton Island Maison at Marina Bay Sands and Ngee Ann City.
Cold brew is easily the thing now. Without a doubt, you’ll definitely recognise those hipster-looking bottles that have been appearing continuously on the internet, or on your friend’s feed after a typical Sunday of “cafe hopping”. Meanwhile, if you’re too lazy to hunt down for these precious cold brews in obscure places, Starbucks has just answered your coffee woes with their very own Starbucks® Cold Brew.
With Starbucks just around every corner, gone are the days you have to search high and low for a good cold brew. What’s so special about cold brew is that the brewing process is a highly detailed one that takes more time and effort, as compared to a normal brew. Starbucks makes the effort to ensure that the Cold Brew blend is freshly ground first, and then combines it with cool water and slowly steeped for at least 10 hours in a Toddy Brewer, an exclusive system that extracts the coffee’s natural flavours to create a coffee concentrate. What you’ll get is a cup of coffee that’s naturally sweet and incredibly smooth, which is great if you’re not a fan of the typical iced coffee that’s naturally brewed.
We’re already expecting better mornings with a green logo-bearing cup in our hands.
Starbucks® Cold Brew, $4.90 (tall-sized), available now at Starbucks.

As usual, we’re enthralled by the luxury French house’s quality handbags that never seem to go out of style. This time, Chanel’s stunning Fall-Winter 2016/17 collection returns to the familiar classics but with a unique twist that’s definitely unforgettable.
Both the classic CHANEL 11.12 and 2.55 with its quintessential quilting that’s emblematic of the House is given a stylish reinterpretation by Karl Lagerfield. What we get is a refreshing look that’s still reflective of CHANEL’s modern and sophisticated designs.
The CHANEL 11.12 with the classic CC clasp is easily the iconic bag of the House. This collection features the 11.12 covered in laser treated faded denim.
There’s also the iconic 2.55 that comes in either aged or metallic leather as well as soft overstitched beige suede split calfskin, drawing inspiration from the toiles that are used in the ateliers. The handy bag is also attached to a clip hanger with a tiny mirror, great for those last-minute touch ups and discreet vanity checks.
The all-time favourite BOY CHANEL is now given intricate embellishments and meticulous braiding details. The lacing details seen on the handbags in either leather or with tweed are reminiscent of the corsetry that cleaves the dresses and boots.
The interesting resin minaudière takes on the shape of a bobbin of golden thread, serving as a tribute to the ateliers and the intricate work needed to craft the House’s luxurious and quality bags.
We’d like to see you resist this adorably nifty case that’s meant to keep your smartphones and tablets safe. You can take your pick between different textures and designs including tweed, quilted or leathers. There’s always something for everyone.
Chanel Fall-Winter 2016/17 handbags and small leather goods collection, available from September at Chanel boutiques.
It’s summer everyday in Singapore, and that’s why we’ve been wearing these cold shoulders – breezy and cooling, they are easily our go-to whether it’s for a casual day or an evening out.
The classic long-sleeved off-shoulder that exudes sophistication and all that ethereal vibes you’ll want to have. Our favourite kind of classic off-shoulders have ribbon details at the sleeves; perfect for any occasions or events if you style them appropriately.
A flouncy alternative, this off-shoulder design has an added detail to make your look a little more exaggerated and flirty. The sleeves are usually short, so it’ll be great when the weather’s scorching.
For a different look, try cropped off-shoulders top that are especially flattering with high waisted midi skirts. Unlike the bohemian vibes that the usual flowy off-shoulders give, the cropped ones lend a certain edginess to your outfit, and they will definitely draw attention to your collarbones and shoulders, which is always a plus.
We’ll admit this one’s a tough to pull off, especially for you petite ladies out there. Finding the right length is key here – a dress too long will make you look like a shapeless blob, while something too short will come off will definitely look too bare, no matter the occasion. After you’ve found the right length, decide if you would want to pick a ruffled design or the classic long-sleeved – either way, pair them with a pair of sneakers and sandals and youre
The Kenzo x H&M Collection drops in stores November 3, so there’s still quite some time to go before we get to feast our eyes on the full range; but if these first three looks are anything to go by, it seems we can expect a riot of colour and prints that definitely require a big step out of your monochrome comfort zone.
The people featured in these lookbook images aren’t professional models or celebrities, but rather, part of a bevy of young creatives and activists that have been handpicked to represent the celebration of individuality that Kenzo Takada has always put across in his runway collections.
Amy Sall, founder of SUNU: Journal of African Affairs, Critical Thought + Aesthetics and Juliana Huxtable, artist, poet and DJ, both wearing tiger print jersey rollneck tops, matching high waisted leggings, long black leather gloves with pink logo rubber print and jacquard knitted tiger-sock shaft boots.
Oko Ebombo, musician and performance artist, wearing parka with removable collar, block colour tiger print jeans, padded flip flops with tabi socks, tiger-printed cap with attached scarf, printed woven scarf and tiger-printed cross-body bag.
Isamaya Ffrench, makeup artist, wearing oversized leather jacket with pink faux shearling lining, matching tiger print rollneck top and high-waisted leggings.
Of course, tiger prints feature heavily – in these first looks, anyway – and you might immediately see them as a reference to the iconic tiger motifs that the brand’s creative directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim have put on sweaters and tees, but they’re in actuality a shoutout to archival prints. If anything, this collection calls for animal prints (in acid-bright shades, no less) to be celebrated again – you have about three more months to prepare your hearts and wardrobes.
The H&M x Kenzo collection will be available from 3 November 2016. hm.com
These days, it’s hard to stay away from social media sites. With all your favourite celebrities, friends, colleagues and even your family members staying in touch on social media platforms, you’d also feel compelled to join in the much-dreaded fun. Even though sites like Instagram and YouTube can be fun to dabble with, they do make us spend, rather excessively, on things that we don’t actually need. Call it a genius marketing technique if you will, we’ve all fallen victims to social media’s ill effects, whether knowingly or not.
YouTube
Ah, YouTube; where time stands still until you’ve realised that you’ve been binge-watching videos for several hours and it’s already dark outside. We all start out with one innocent YouTube video and everything spirals from there. It’s not surprising to get hooked on these YouTubers with clear videos, brilliant editing and let’s face it – pretty faces. If you’ve ventured into the beauty side of YouTube, you’d discover plenty of make up artists and “vloggers” constantly raving about beauty products, filming their hauls (be it clothes or makeup) as well as makeup tutorials that usually include an endless list of product that fall way outside our budget range. From makeup and clothes to shoes, accessories and even furniture, we find ourselves spending more than we should – either to live vicariously through these products, or just because we’re actually really weak at handling temptation.
Instagram
Instagram is the ultimate black hole – after a little clicks here and there, you suddenly realise you’re stalking a random person with a huge following, even though you aren’t even sure of her actual relevance in the first place. Once you’re hooked, Instagram reels you in by always suggesting these popular strangers on your feed, enticing you to click in and just have a innocent look. But before you know it, you’ve scrolled till last year’s post and you’re wondering to yourself, “I need her dress.” There begins the impossible search of that dress and that outfit she’s wearing – you must have them all!
Beauty wise, we’re not surprised that some companies are relying heavily on Instagram solely to convey important announcements and new releases – take Kylie Cosmetics, Colourpop and Anastasia Beverly Hills for example. Frequently active on social media, we’re being fed with constant updates on their products even when we don’t actually want to purchase them. Even if there are no new releases, there will always be photos of their current products – be it swatches, flat lays or stunning individuals wearing them; making our urge even stronger, and more urgent (we are weak-willed people). And yes, even if we did unfollow them, some way or another, they will always find their way back. Creepy.
A photo posted by Kylie Cosmetics (@kyliecosmetics) on
Snapchat
We’ve recently discovered the dark side of Snapchat and we’re definitely loving it. Celebrities, make up artists and even companies have took on creating live stories that only last a day – so you’ll get that exclusive coverage for just that 24 hours (provided nobody screenshots it). Recently, we’ve seen Kylie Jenner’s viral makeup tutorial that featured the products she uses on a daily basis. Whether it’s a genuine tutorial or a marketing ploy, it definitely had several fans scooting off to the nearest store to get their hands on the products mentioned. Companies like Colourpop have also started updating their Snapchats regularly regarding launch dates and swatches, sending all of us into fits of excitement whenever we see a new update from Colourpop appear on our feed.
You’d better toss your phone away if you would like to save the extra bucks…or attempt to have better self-control. Either way, social media’s a killer.
The San Diego Comic-Con International was an exciting one this year, with several major comic and film announcements that had us reeling in delight and anticipation. With the influx of trailers, announcements and revelations, it’d be pretty easy to miss out on something amidst the sheer chaos and excitement surrounding this year’s huge event. We’ve helped you summarise the key highlights of this year’s Comic-Con to save you the time and trouble of furiously googling information.
From Marvel 1. Doctor Strange
Aside from being blessed with a trailer of the upcoming season of Sherlock, we’re seeing even more of Benedict Cumberbatch in a whole new light in Marvel’s Doctor Strange. We’re always excited when it comes to seeing new members added to the Marvel film universe, and even more so when it’s Benedict Cumberbatch.
We’ve been waiting a long while for this official confirmation that Brie Larson will be playing Carol Danvers in their first solo female superhero movie. Finally!
3. More updates on Black Panther and Spiderman
Though there weren’t any trailers released for both, each panel discussion revealed further details regarding the films. Black Panther has released the first look of its film logo, and confirmed additional cast such as Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira. Meanwhile, Spidey himself, Tom Holland, joined the stage to promote the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming film. Described to be like a “high school” movie, we’re all looking forward to watch young Peter Parker tackle school, adolescence and more importantly, the Vulture.
From DC 1. Wonder Woman
After making an amazing debut in the recent Batman V Superman movie, we’re all thrilled to be seeing more of Gal Gadot in her solo superhero film, Wonder Woman, that’s set to debut in 2017.
2. Justice League
The first teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated Justice League was also revealed exclusively during Comic-Con. You’ll definitely recognise the epic superheroes such as Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash, Superman and Cyborg. And yes, Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot will also be reprising their roles as Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman respectively. This teaser trailer sent chills, in a good way of course.
Others 1. Another trailer for Fantastic Beasts
As if the first trailer didn’t already send us into fits of excitement and lots of screaming. Coming to the theatres this November, we’re already counting down anxiously until the glorious day arrives. Warning: watch out for the nostalgic tears when you hear the familiar Harry Potter tune playing in the background.
2. The Walking Dead Season 7
First look at The Walking Dead’s new season that’s coming up this October. We’re introduced to new characters and several exciting clues that several have already started dissecting, bit by bit. So, spoilers ahead if you’re not caught up on the latest season of the show.
3. New trailers for Game of Thrones and thoughts from the cast Two new Game of Thrones trailers were revealed during the Comic-Con, and the cast also gave their candid thoughts about the latest season – including Sophie Turner’s most exciting scene and Iwan Rheon’s thoughts about playing the most-hated Ramsay Bolton. Also, if you were wondering why there are only 7 episodes instead of the usual 10, the show’s co-creator chimed the famous line “winter is here”, hence the shoot is delayed until the location looks more like a barren land. Very Game of Thrones style.
4. Kong: Skull Island
Two words: Tom Hiddleston. With yet another revamp story for King Kong, we’re excited to catch this in theatres in March 2017.
This Australian childrenswear boutique might have already caught your attention for its attractive storefront and large range of fashionable clothing for babies, toddlers and young teens.
Just a few months back, Seed Heritage introduced a sleek range of newborn bedding, made from the softest natural fabrics in coordinating palettes and prints. Specially designed in a generous size, the beddings are meant to fit most cot mattresses, so you wouldn’t need to go through the hassle of measuring lengths and finding the right sizes. We especially love how Seed’s bedding comes with a beautiful bag that can easily be packed away when not in use — the adorable packaging definitely makes a great baby shower gift.
This August, we’re expecting a new collection of childrenswear and accessories, from cute hats and cushions to comfortable clothing in soft hues and minimal designs. The long sleeved tops and one-piece jumpers would definitely keep the children warm, especially with the rainy season coming upon us. The collection is adorable to say the least, but Seed’s designs are always simple and classic, so you’ll be sure that styling the little ones will require minimal to no effort at all.
Seed Heritage Newborn Bedding available at Wisma Atria #01-25/28.

Even after swearing by some beauty products that we know we’ll never replace, we still always find ourselves reaching out for even more make up, even if they are really unnecessary. Well, the heart wants what it wants. It’s difficult to not succumb to temptation when it comes to these products that are so beautifully packaged they are a piece of art on it’s own. We’ll admit that sometimes, it’s not the inside that counts – but the packaging it comes in. Here’s our list of aesthetic beauty products that we’d think will look great not only on your shelves, but in your photos as well.
Milk Makeup
from instagram.com/milkmakeup.
You might not have heard of Milk Makeup, but the packaging definitely stands out from what we’d consider as conventional beauty products. Based in America, this eco-conscious brand boasts products that are made from natural ingredients including hydrating oils, fruit and vegetable butters, and they contain minimal to no preservatives as well. We’d like to think that their transparent and minimalistic packaging does indeed reflect the brand’s emphasis on keeping their products natural and clean. Also, these products are “brush-free”, since their products are well-equipped with either sticks or rollerballs that glide easily on the face. Talk about low maintenance. Milk Makeup, milkmakeup.com.
Aesop
from instagram.com/aesopskincare.
We’re sure Aesop needs no introduction. Known for their skin care products, their bottles that are reminiscent of medicine bottles are clearly reflective of their plant-based ingredients. If you’ve ever visited any of their stores, you’ll know the true definition of bathroom goals right there. Aesop, aesop.com/sg/
Hourglass Cosmetics
from instagram.com/hourglasscosmetics.
Hourglass’ highly-lauded products are known to make your skin glow to say the least, but its beautiful packaging gives off a luminous sheen too. These immaculate bronze and silver cases feature a real minimalistic logo, and their brushes are packed in a bronze casing too. We don’t know about you, but these iridescent cases are enough to set our hearts aflutter. Hourglass Cosmetics, available at Sephora.
Real Techniques Bold Metals Collection
from instagram.com/realtechniques.
We all need brushes for our daily make up routine, so these metallic brushes are definitely not just for your frivolous aesthetic pleasure. We’re used to Real Technique’s soft and fluffy brushes in their iconic colourful packaging, but with these metallic brushes and white tips, we’d consider getting a whole new set of brushes. Real Techniques Bold Metals Collection, available at Sephora.
Glossier
from instagram.com/glossier.
These tubes have been highly-raved about throughout the internet and YouTube, but we’re pretty sure most of us are immediately drawn to the tube’s design, rather than the actual benefits of these balms. The brand features clean white and light pink designs in the perfect floral boxes that we’ll definitely not trash this time round. Glossier, glossier.com.
Hurtling through the largely unexplored universe at light-speed might seem like a distant concept now, but hey, that’s what people thought about airplanes too. Hundreds of people cruising through the air, 40,000 feet above sea level, the amount of power it must take to lift off what’s essentially a huge metal box, making sure it’s light but sturdy enough against wind resistance and other unforgiving elements. Behold, the technological marvel that’s the modern airplane. You have to feel a bit bad the next time you’re complaining about your in-flight entertainment system.
Speaking about marvels though, here are two inventions that changed the aviation industry for good. One, the revolutionary Junkers F13, developed in Germany and the world’s first all-metal passenger aircraft, obviously changing the way planes are made since it took to the skies in 1919; and secondly, the not-so-humble RIMOWA suitcase, quite a feat as it’s the first metal suitcase with grooves made out of Duralumin, the same aluminum alloy used to craft that Junkers plane. Yep, the exact sturdy metal that keeps a plane intact while in the air. Sign us up already.
It’s this uncanny entwining of narratives that inspired the, also, German luggage brand to pay tribute to the original 1920s Junker F13 planes, teaming up with Swiss airline company JU-Air to create their own RIMOWA F13 that’s due to take its maiden flight soon.
But while we can’t all bear witness to that over at Switzerland, the premium luggage brand has managed to snag an impressive 20-feet by 11-feet plane replica that touched down outside their newly-relocated Mandarin Gallery duplex.
The boutique then extends this RIMOWA F13 experience with an interactive projection that shares just how marvellous the modern engineering feat is. At the same time, you’ll be able to admire authentic vintage suitcases, as well as see local artist Candice Phang’s retro illustrations on top of six RIMOWA Topas Cabin Multiwheel bags, which would definitely stand out on the mundane luggage belt. We can get on board with that.

PUMA’s collaborations are always something to look out for – their highly-lauded classic styles mixed with unique designs and illustrations, it’s hard not to cave into temptation. For the Autumn/Winter season, we’re once again blessed with three new PUMA collaborations; and as usual, we’re definitely expecting them to fly off the shelves soon. Here’s a round up of the three newly-launched collaborations and yes, you may freak out now.
PUMA x Careaux AW16
Recognised globally for her digital artwork inspired by sneakers, we were definitely excited when we saw Careaux’s feminine street style. Imbued with her signature romantic and colourful illustrations, the collection features a recurring motif, the ‘Dedication Flower’, created to symbolise the strength and beauty in dark, difficult times. This beautiful print is seen across all the familiar PUMA silhouettes, such as bomber jackets, sweatshirts and jersey tops. With Careaux’s passion for sneakers, we weren’t surprised by the collection’s sneaker that was definitely the stand out piece. Embedded with rose prints, pink and gold hues, as well as a perforated leather, this classic pair is definitely a romantic artwork.
PUMA x Careaux AW16 collection, available from 6 August at Limited Edt and Leftfoot stores.
PUMA x Dee & Ricky AW16
Known for their quirky designs and creative street styles, the design duo, Dee and Ricky Jackson teamed up with PUMA to curate a playful and whimsical collection with unique graphic designs. Across the collection, the designs draw inspiration from artist Massimo Vignelli’s iconic subway map and the colourful elements of graffiti, as well as familiar graphic images such as Lady Liberty and the Big Apple. We’re definitely getting hints of New York City through this innovative collection, from eye-catching apparel to funky shoes and accessories. You definitely won’t lack any colour in these.
PUMA x Dee & Ricky AW16 collection, available at Limited Edt and Leftfoot stores.
PUMA x Trapstar AW16
Following the teaser drop of the Disc x Trapstar White noise just last month, we’re now getting the full glory of the entire Autumn/Winter collection. Featuring a range of footwear and apparel, this refreshing collection combines Trapstar’s contemporary designs with PUMA’s iconic silhouettes. Whether you prefer simple or bold hues, the collection’s wide range of apparel will definitely have something for you. The graphic tees come in either solid or all-over prints with a fake leather logo badge on the front, adding a classic touch. Besides tees, the all-time classic PUMA Basket x Trapstar features an all-white simple design, while the Disc Blaze is given a loud camo print, definitely one that will turn heads.
PUMA x Trapstar collection, available at selected retailers at Limited Edt, Pedder on Scotts, and Leftfoot.
