4 Lipstick Shades You Need To Have

We know some of you just don’t see the point in stashing up on lipsticks in various colours when you have just one pair of lips. But think about it – a pop of colour on your face actually switches up your entire look, and with just the right colour, you can look refreshed and polished even if you’re feeling dead inside. We’ve rounded up 4 lipstick colours you need to have, especially if you’ve been sticking to the same few colours this whole time.
1. Reds

Red Taylor Swift
Image from instagram.com/taylorswift.

It’s safe to say that we have all been jealous of Taylor Swift at least once, whether it was the close relationship she has with her cats, her incredible beaus, or her long legs. But for sure, the one thing she has on all of us is the iconic swipe of her red lipstick.
Red lips are definitely an essential in your make up stash, and if you haven’t puckered the courage to try the signature red, you should start now. For those who aren’t comfortable with a bold red lip just yet, start off with a lip pencil or stain and apply them on your lips with your fingers for a more subdued shade.
Ð

Try M.A.C Velvetease Lip Pencil in Reddy To Go, $36, available at M.A.C counters.

2. Purples
Purple Kathleen Lights
Image from instagram.com/kathleenlights.

A dark lip is the best statement accessory you can have to complete your look. Whether you are in a neutral or dark ensemble, a vampy lip definitely complements. However, be careful not to overdo the look by wearing an eyeshadow shade that clashes – try neutral tones for the safest option.
For those who are easing into the purple look, try a gloss or tint for a subtle pop. Dark colours like these should be applied with precision – and hence we’ll recommend matte liquid lipsticks for a better application. If you prefer the normal lipsticks, try swiping a cotton bud across the colour and apply it on your lips. Then line your lips carefully with a lip pencil for a sharp and defined look.
Tarte purple

Try Tarte Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint in Hangary, $30, available at Sephora.
3. Mauve
Zendaya mauve
Image from instagram.com/zendaya.

The easiest shade to wear if you are running late and have no time to fret and fuss about ~the face~ you’re going for today. Mauve is essentially a gorgeous mix of pink and brown, and serves as the perfect in between these two common colours. Sometimes also known as dusty rose, you’ll recognise these lipsticks as a subtle pink, with a hint of gray or brown. To be honest, this muted shade is nothing vibrant or lively, but the beauty lies in its dullness – it’s a classic and sophisticated colour to swipe on for an everyday look. These mauve lipsticks are probably a hot favourite amongst older ladies, due to its neutral shade that’s really work appropriate and flattering at the same time. The best thing about this shade is that you can really go all out for your eye make up and contouring.
Time to dig your Mum’s lipstick stash for a trove of the good stuff.
Nars Mauve

Try Nars Audacious Lipstick in Anna, $44, available at Sephora.

4. Brown

Gigi brown
Image from instagram.com/gigihadid.

The humble brown lips from the ’90s made its way back to present day – and trust us, we couldn’t be more glad. We’ve all seen and envied the elusive looks of a flawlessly applied brown lip and a flattering complexion on many celebrities; but we’re all left with a lingering question in our heads, “can we really pull this off?” The short answer is yes, but here’s the truth – the key to pull off this lip is to find the right shade of brown.
Start off with a subtle beige-brown tint or lip pencil for an easy application. For those of you with lighter skin tones, try not to go for deep browns that might be too much of a contrast against your fair complexion. You might want to mix the browns with another nude or pink lipstick for a look that’s not too harsh. If you’ve darker skin, be brave and fight the intimidation – go for a deep brown or a dark burgundy that will really bring attention to your eyes.
Marc Jacobs Brown

Try Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Crème Lipstick in Mahogany 232, $42, available at Sephora.

Rejoice: Pool Slides Are Acceptable Footwear Again

Seems like just yesterday Singaporean millennials were blowing up the Internet with “inappropriate” footwear – through scathing critiques about slipper etiquette and the ghastly sin of daring to flip flop your way to town. We’ll admit we were never fans of slippers anywhere except inside the home ourselves; but fast-forward to the present and looks like the joke’s on us. It’s officially Summer 2016, and pool slides as everyday footwear has never been bigger.
Maybe it’s the Rihanna effect, or just the general rise in the athleisure trend, but those rubbery single-strap slides have quickly become a staple in our closets – and the rest of the world. Whether it’s the traditional pool slide, or an updated version featuring crisscrossed straps, a bulkier platform, or even night out-appropriate bling, they’re absolute winners for their impossible comfort, and for nailing that effortlessly chic off-duty look.
So the time has come: cast aside your prejudices and embrace the flip flop footwear life – because it’s about to get pretty inappropriate. Here are some of our faves:

TS42H87JWHT_Zoom_F_1
$36.90, available at Topshop

No prizes for guessing where these bad boys took inspiration from (though just in case you didn’t know, it’s Nike); but we’re not complaining, since Topshop makes some pretty affordable dupes.

S78866_TPP_eCom S78041_TPP_eCom
$55 and $49 respectively, available at adidas

Take a break from the typical black-and-white striped adidas slides, and try these on for size instead.

16SS_Rihanna_Fenty_IG_FENTY-Slide_Product_01-187
$79, OOS

Damn you Rihanna, for making furry shoes cute again! Keep it casual yet wickedly stylish with these fur slides by Fenty, courtesy of PUMA’s Creative Director Rihanna, which come in three tempting staple colourways. Currently unavailable, well, everywhere, it’s a sign that you should definitely snap these up the moment they come back into stock (if ever..)

427070_K0L00_8919_003_100_0000_Light-Womens-Gucci-Tian-slide-sandal
$410, available at Gucci Paragon and Marina Bay Sands

Warning: not for the faint-hearted. If you’ve got the extra dough on hand, we’d hand it over for these super luxe Tian slide sandals by Gucci. It won’t be any day soon, but hey; a girl can dream.

image1xxl (8) image3xxl (3)
L: £14, available at ASOS | R: £18, from Boohoo, available at ASOS

A more wearable alternative (if you’re still iffy about the rubbery pool-ness of the traditional slide), crisscrossed slides usually come in smarter looking materials that are just as comfy. Stay casual-chic with an espadrille detail and soft cloth straps, or opt for a leather upper if you want something to dress down workwear.

682485_e1_pp
$141, available at net-a-porter

Nothing like gorgeous flower rose petal detailing and quality soft black leather to elevate the humble pool slide. Oh, and the Tory Burch brand name of course.

image1xxl (9)
£17.50, available at ASOS

And for some real kick in your step, go all out with chunky platforms, a cork-style footbed, and a crap ton of silver studs. Now these are definitely town-appropriate.

Get Your Life In Check With These Apps

Life in Singapore is definitely hard – in terms of #firstworldproblems, anyway. It’s almost impossible to avoid feeling stressed out and wishing we could all have our own Personal Assistant to make sure we don’t lose our heads within the next hour. Only then our assistants would probably need their own PAs…and those PAs would need PAs…and so on. But hey, your trusted sidekick might already be closer than you think: in your devices. We rounded up 5 apps we think will help you through your week, from scheduling to finance to food.

Momentum

Screen Shot 2016-06-20 at 10.46.21 AM

With great Internet browsing comes great responsibility…and getting sidetracked happens. We all start out with good intentions – maybe you wanted to finally start working on your essay early, for once. Maybe you wanted to Google why your throat has been feeling so ticklish for the past five days (you’re not dying, don’t worry). But sooner or later we all find ourselves with a thousand tabs open at 1AM, and it’s not pretty. Momentum helps you stay on track each time you open up a new tab, including a To-Do list function and a “main focus” which you can update as often as you like. It also helps your browser stay gorgeous with a new background featured everyday, as well as a daily quote which can help keep you motivated.

Class Timetable
IMG_3001   IMG_3019   IMG_3002

Students, this one’s for you. If you’re one of those lucky ducks who has permission to use your phones on campus – out of class, of course – then take it from me, this app is a true lifesaver. While most schools may stick to hardcopy handouts, disaster tends to strike: you forget to bring it, it’s so crumpled by the end of April that part of it is illegible, you lose it altogether, etc. Class Timetable lets you colour code your classes and even lets you choose how many weeks your timetable operates on (e.g. different subject blocks for each alternate week).
Class Timetable, developed by Ice Media Creative, free, available on the App Store or on Google Play.

Monny
IMG_3005   IMG_3006   IMG_3017

When finance gets tough, the tough get…cute? Monny helps you track your spendings on a super-adorable, user-friendly interface, making number crunching a whole lot more enjoyable. The app also helps you generate a report on how much you’ve spent/saved within a month so you can monitor your own expenses. Or, you know, just cry over that money you blew on that jacket last week. Speaking of which, Monny even has budget challenges for you to help curb your shopaholic tendencies.

Seven
IMG_3010    IMG_3011   IMG_3018

The concept of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) might sound pretty intimidating to most people at first, but if all you want is to just move a little more everyday, Seven is actually surprisingly do-able. A full circuit only takes about 10 minutes or so, and if you’re feeling up to the challenge, you can also unlock different workouts if you’re able to use the app every day, for a certain number of days. Plus, the app includes an auto-instructor, so you’ll always know which exercise is coming next without having to rush for your phone, and there’s even a demo function in case you feel a little lost.
7 Minute Workout “Seven” with High Intensity Interval Training Challenge, developed by Perigee, free, available on the App Store and Google Play.

MUJI To Relax
IMG_3012   IMG_3013   IMG_3014

Easily the most aesthetically-pleasing app on this list, the MUJI To Relax app is also easy on the ears. The app features a collection of atmospheric sounds, from birds chirping in a quiet forest to the soft crackling of a campfire, which are designed to help you relax and/or fall asleep to. You can also set a timer for the sounds so that you don’t have to end up needing to squint at your screens to turn the app off, effectively waking yourself up again. Zzzzz…

Kiehl's x MessyMsxi Creates A Better Earth For Children

Since 1851, Kiehl’s has established their passionate commitment to play a contribution to create a better community. Till date, we still see Kiehl’s long-standing mission in place; and as aptly coined by their second generation founding-family member, Mr. Aaron Morse, “A worthwhile firm must have a purpose for its existence…to improve in some way the quality of the community to which it is committed.”

???????????????

To support and raise awareness and funds for the children from Autism Association (Singapore), Kiehl’s is collaborating with local Award-Winning illustrator, MessyMsxi (Tan Zi Xi) for the Limited Edition Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque.
The Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque is well-loved and undeniably, an all-time favourite amongst many, due to its effective ability to minimise our hideous pores and rid dead skin cells. The main ingredient used, Amazonian White Clay, is just another example of Kiehl’s strict and ethical standards for fair trade sourcing; a practice they maintain to ensure that they too, pay a fair price for the raw materials sourced in the community. Kiehl’s also engages in meticulous environmental protection by making sure that materials used are replaced, recycled, or restored.
Besides the masque’s amazing cleansing and purifying features, the cute illustrations are also a plus.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Featuring the imaginative and inspiring works of MessyMsxi; she states how the artwork “Create A Better Earth for Children with Autism” illustrates the whimsical mind of an autistic child, who sees the world differently than we do. The bright colours and endearing animals convey how our earth warmly welcomes and accept these children with autism.

Now, you can not only improve your skin condition, but you can also contribute to the society as well. What Your Favourite Snapchat Filter Says About You

Oh, Snapchat; probably one of the greatest creations to have been spawned from the rise of social media. Shady beginnings aside, there’s no denying the thrill of spontaneous snapping and sharing, especially when its laidback nature trumps the rigidity of Facebook and the pretentious curated feeds of Instagram. And obviously it keeps getting better. Enter the Snapchat lens filters, first introduced in the September of last year and now fiercely beloved by young girls and generally bored users worldwide. Some find themselves drawn to rainbow regurgitation; and we all have that one friend who can’t stop abusing the dog face filter. So we decided to strip down every (available) filter to analyse just what each one could mean – about you. Today’s model of choice: the impossibly perfect Kendall Jenner. (Be prepared for some major self-esteem issues.)

kendall-jenner-1

1. Dog Face
image2

True to popular belief; indicative of a basic white girl. Consistently favours it for creating a sharper face, smoother skin, and larger eyes – plus the unexplainable fact that the added dog features somehow make her look sensual and attractive. Guilty of “casually” adding it to her story so any cute boys watching will be charmed by her perfect combination of sexy and cute. Will try a pretty filter every now and then but constantly goes back to the Dog Face because – duh, the tongue. There’s a reason Snapchat subsequently created a dalmatian side bitch.

2. The pretty filters
image5  image4  image8

Big, dewy eyes, flawless lightened skin (which seems a little racist to us, tbh); a hit with girls savvy enough to steer clear of the damning Dog Face, but still keen on looking pretty. Frequent users remain within the more self-conscious bunch who take pains in looking good and take pride in it. (You go girl!) Most commonly used when snapping nonchalant Get Ready With Mes, bored selfies, and showing off good makeup days.

3. Random animal currently on offer
image7

Anything from a kitty to a racoon to a full-faced panda; today it’s a pig – which Kendall somehow manages to make attractive as well. Used in random selfies not designed to attract anyone, the regular animal face filterer enjoys adding a little more interest in to their (Snapchat) lives, and is confident enough to know that no amount of licking dog tongues can make you more attractive than you already are.

4. Cutie sad face
image3

For days when you don’t feel or look your best, or don’t have anything going on, but still want to add something to your story – because adorable doe eyes always save the day. Particularly appreciated when wittily played up by someone who legitimately has a cause to pout-frown – and a sign of a decent sense of humour! This filter says you’re a socially acceptable mix of understanding the importance of putting thought into your appearance, and knowing when to indifferently disregard it.

5. Unflattering warped face

image6

A complete 180 from the cutie face filters, the unflattering warped face filters come in a range of amusing distortions – large nose, fat chin, Kim Jong Un eyes, etc. Favourites of fun-loving people who know how to have a good laugh, and to laugh at themselves while they’re at it. Don’t belittle these users as mere clowns – regular use indicates immense levels of self-awareness that keep them down-to-earth and lovable; and definite keepers as ‘chill’ friends/natural comedians. Gotta love a sense of humour.

6. Makeup face
image10

Most commonly used in sheer amusement at the prowess of Snapchat face detection, but usually just a one-off thing. Occasionally used for girls to genuinely consider further experimentation with makeup.

7. Weird miscellaneous filter no one really knows how to react to
image11

Honestly, just for times when you’re so damn bored you decide to try every lens filter currently available; especially since these aren’t hot favourites that stay in your filter selection for long. Just like this bizarre strawberry, you’re weird, quirky, and have a penchant for strange novelties – the stranger the better. Users swing both ways – amateurs trying out Snapchat for the first time (and being disgustingly amused), or experienced snappers who’ve run out of filters to try but are adamant on adding something to their story for the day. If you’re a regular user of such random filters, hats off to you, pal.

8. Face Swap
image12

And finally, the most legendary lens filter to have ever graced this earth. Frequent users are guilty of a mild obsession of seeing their features on other people’s faces, though this self-absorption is instantly negated by genuine, roaring laughter at Face Swap fails. These people will never cease to find joy in the littler things, and are their own silver linings in every situation. Keep them by your side for a journey to becoming a more carefree, lighthearted soul. And pray that the Face Swap lens filter never gets removed.

The LG Pocket Photo Is Getting A Super Cute LINE Makeover

By now, you’re probably all well-aware of the messaging app LINE and it’s adorable bunch of characters. But whether you love Brown, Choco or Cony, there’s no denying that the devices displaying your LINE love should be as functional as they are cute. That’s why LG Electronics has teamed up with LINE to release a brand new design for Pocket Photo, the inkless mobile printing device!

8

The portable and super-sleek LG Pocket Photo is one of the smallest mobile photo printing devices in the market. It prints pictures rendered at a crystal clear 313dpi — perfect for sharing or displaying. After downloading and installing the free Pocket Photo editing app, users can wirelessly connect their smartphones or tablets and begin printing immediately. The accompanying Pocket Photo app also lets users experiment with a wide range of customisation options, from filter effects to frame augmentation features.

If you’re wondering how it’s possible for such a tiny printer to exist, the Pocket Photo uses the proven ZINK® technology, eliminating the need for expensive ink cartridges, ribbons or toner. This technology utilises heat to activate the necessary colour-forming dye crystals imbedded in each sheet of paper. Compared with conventional printing processes, ZINK’s inkless paper system actually preserves images much longer and produces less smearing. The Pocket Photo can even print 30 photos on a single charge, so you can snap away all-day anytime, anywhere!

How To Get In On The Androgynous Trend

The androgynous fashion isn’t something that’s new. Though we can’t simply put a point to how it was sparked off, the androgynous fashion movement started mostly due to the desire to overthrow gender stereotypes and conventions. Meant to be a gender binding movement, many in the past dressed in this fashion to celebrate gender fluidity and ambiguity. Fast forward today, we see women dressed androgynously everywhere – on the runways and on the streets as well. While it might be daunting at first, we’ll get you started with some basic tips. Ditch your dresses and skirts for a week and make a statement yourself.
1. Invest in a good blazer

Blazer 2 ZaraBlazer zara
Zara, $69.90.

Whether it is oversized or slim-cut, a tailored blazer will always come in handy. We know it’s hot in Singapore, so it’ll be optimal if you could get a quality blazer that’s lightweight too.

2. You’ll never go wrong with a collared shirt

Mango shirtMango shirt 2
Mango, $29.90.

Ditch the notion that only men can wear buttoned down collar shirts – you can too! A simple collared shirt can easily take you from the office to a night out. If you’re feeling fancier, incorporate loud prints in your coordinate; or opt for something striped.

3. A pair of trousers matches with everything!

Trousers ZaraTrousers 2 Zara
Zara, $69.90.

We’d expect you to scoff at this – “wearing pants is so normal! that’s not androgyny at all!” Why yes, while we wouldn’t really consider wearing pants as the ultimate form of androgynous styling, remember this; wearing pants was considered to be a controversial matter in the past. To make your coordinate look more polished and presentable, we’ll recommend you to get a pair of slim cut trousers – high waisted ones are a plus point. For the petite ladies, do shop at petite sections for a better fit! Wearing trousers that aren’t at the right length will cause you to look really sloppy and messy instead. Altering is the key.
4. Shoes maketh the outfit

Dr MartsTopshop loafers
Dr Martens, $189. Topshop, $139.

Swap out your heels and sandals for a pair of loafers instead. Depending on your personal preference, chunky loafers would go really well with tapered pants that reveal your socks. Alternatively, you could also go for a classic pair of slim loafers for a sophisticated look.

A Week In Singapore On A $50 Allowance

Recently, the folks over at Refinery29 have been compiling an eye-opening diversity of “Money Diaries”, wherein millennial women document their spending habits over a seven-day period. While we love reading about the lives of other women on the other side of the world, the series has seen considerable flak from indignant Facebook users, particularly episodes trailing women with impressive annual salaries over US$50,000.
Of course, a week in New York City is definitely challenging – whether you’re bringing in $1k or $5k a month. But let’s be real; no one in Singapore would actively spend a weekly total of $40 just on morning lattes, especially not when there’s kopi bing easily in reach. And sometimes the reality is that not everyone has a buzzing social life all seven days of the week. So here’s to our attempt to document our own money matters, over five full working days in the sunny island of Singapore – to prove that you can have a social life while still being frugal. One catch: We’ve only got $50.

Industry: Magazines
Age: 22
Location: Erm… Woodlands?
Monthly Expenses
Transport: $45 on MRT Concession, c/o parents (thanks folks)

Monday

9am – I always just grab whatever bread we have at home and bring it to the office as breakfast, 1) because I’m poor and 2) I’m always late. Today it’s a peanut butter sandwich.
2pm – After running some errands nearby, I dabao prawn mee (dry) for $3.20 (darn these additional takeaway prices). It’s a blazing hot day, so I treat myself to kopi bing. $3.20 + $1.50 = $4.70
7.30pm – Dinner at home, which is free, since we Singaporeans pretty much all still live with our parents.

Daily Total: $4.70

Tuesday

9am – Peanut butter on bread again; sometimes breakfast can get really depressing.
12pm – We check out the new coffeeshop that opened further down the road from our office, and the gleaming rows of roast meats on display are the first thing that catch our eye. I get roast duck rice, which turns out so buttery smooth I make a mental note to do weekly lunches here. $3.50
6.30pm – I get off punctually today to meet a friend for a birthday meal. I’ve been dying to try Guzman Y Gomez to fill the Chipotle-sized hole in my heart, so I drag her to the outlet at The Star Vista. That’s $10.90 for a spicy chicken burrito bowl (+$2 for guac; geez). It’s nowhere close to the standards of American Mex take-out, but the meal is all right. Great company makes up for it! $12.90
8.30pm – I feel bad for not getting her a present, so the least I can do is splash out on ice creams for the both of us. We get an espresso shot soft serve for her, and an original milk one for me at MilkCow, before chilling and chatting into the night. $11.20

Daily Total: $27.60

Wednesday

9am – Is it really only still Wednesday? My dad bought a pack of croissants for NTUC today, so there’s a good start.
1pm – I’ve got the munchies for MacDonald’s – specifically nuggets. We walk over to the Macs nearby, but I end up settling for a McChicken meal so I can use what’s left in my FlashPay card ($6 lel), which was gifted to me. The meal comes up to $5.40 and I feel like a winner. I don’t count it as money spent since my cash stash remains unchanged.
8pm – Late dinner at home (fried chicken! Hooray!) before I pass out.

Daily Total: $0

Thursday

9am – I pick up another croissant and stuff some leftover bak kwa into it before tossing the lot into my bag.
1pm – Everyone’s feeling lazy today so we stand in line for fish soup just across the road. My unadventurous palate and I have never tasted milk-infused fish soup before – it’s a lot less boring than I thought it’d be. I’m tempted to get a drink with my lunch but decide against it. $4.80
4pm – The midday munchies are an evil thing, but I put them to rest with some free strawberry biscuits a colleague brought back from Seoul.
7.30pm – I honestly did try making the effort to ask people out for dinner, but it’s a sad fact of life that no one’s into spontaneity these days – myself included. Fish and cereal prawn dinner at home it is.

Daily Total: $4.80

Friday

9am – I swear there’s a literal spring in my step this morning, despite the rain – because it’s Friday! My grandma’s in town, and with her a hoard of steamed white miku buns (called Turtle Buns apparently; I googled.) That basically means breakfast is settled for the next two weeks, starting today.
11am – I head out for a PUMA event with a colleague, but the space is just a 5-minute walk away from our office. Unlike when an event is in town, that means less temptation around for me to spend money on snacks – which is a good and bad thing.
12.15pm – We leave the event and join the rest of the team at the coffeeshop across. It’s been a while, so dry ban mian (dabao) at our favourite stall for all of us! This is the best dry ban mian I’ve ever had – the kind you legitimately have cravings for at night. $4
7pm – I check my wallet and find I have $9 in cash left. I’m meeting a friend for dinner at 313 Somerset tonight, and we head to the Food Republic on the top floor for some cheap eats. I order salted egg yolk chicken rice from the Mini Wok stall, my latest and greatest discovery. It’s $7 and so tasty! Plus the portion is massive. We window-shop for the rest of the night. $6.80

Daily Total: $10.80

WEEKLY TOTAL SPENT: $47.90

Nourish Your Skin With CNP Laboratory

No one does skin care and beauty better than the Koreans, so we were thrilled when we first started using CNP Laboratory products that help to target a range of skin types and different problem areas. Developed by dermatologists at the CNP Dermatology Clinic, you can expect products packed with ingredients that are carefully selected based on clinical expertise and knowledge. As Korea’s leading pharmaceutical-grade cosmetics line, you’re definitely in good hands. We’ve rounded up a few products that you should try, starting off with our favourite: the TV Zone Care Finisher.

A-Clean TV Zone
TV Zone Care Finisher, $36.90.

We know what it sounds like; no it’s not a bizarre product for your television area like the name suggests. The TV zone actually refers to the T section on your back and the V section on the décolletage area.
CNP

More often than not, we tend to pay more attention to our facial problems while neglecting the blemishes on our backs and the décolletage area. You’d be surprised, but this area actually requires a lot of care due to its over active secretion of sebum. The treatment isn’t as unnecessary as you’d think; you wouldn’t want to throw out your favourite plunging necklines or low back clothing for some ugly zits that you could actually treat. So if you’ve been neglecting them, it’s time to start with CNP Laboratory’s TV Zone Care Finisher, a first of its kind product for such a specifically targeted treatment. Loaded with Pomegranate Fruit extract, Salicylic Acid and Tea Tree Oil, this product helps to aid the recovery of acne marks and scars. We especially love that it contains Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA), an essential component that helps to exfoliate excess dead skin cells and regulate sebum secretion. It’s safe to say that we will be spotted in a bare back dress on Friday nights from now on.
Invisible-Peeling-Booster-510x510
Invisible Peeling Booster, $48.90.

Another CNP Laboratory product that we have recently incorporated in our skincare regime includes the Invisible Peeling Booster that not only helps to regulate sebum secretion and reduce redness on the skin, it further helps to brighten our skin tone and also provides an all-day hydration for our skin.

The Vita-Solution Whitening Ampule, Mugener Ampule and Propolis Energy Ampule are other best sellers that are made for all skin types. Each ampule has its own special ingredients, specifically aimed to target your different skin concerns. Our favourite has to be the Vita Solution Whitening Ampule which is perfect for our dull skin that’s receiving so much damage from the sun. Rich in nutrients such as Vitamin C and B3, it provides a soothing moisture for our skin and gives it a healthy, radiant glow.

A-Clean Purifying Foaming Cleanser, $38.70. A-Clean All Control Moisturiser, $56.50. A-Clean Active Freshner Toner, $42.90.

Another thing we really like about CNP Laboratory is the various product lines they offer, each to suit different needs. For those with oily skin, you should definitely get your hands on the A-Clean Line. The range consists of the three basic steps that are essential for any skin care regime – a foaming cleanser, toner and moisturiser. The A-Clean products feature ingredients like Salicylic Acids, Linoleic Acids and Phytoshingosine that will help to control sebum production, gently exfoliate; leaving your skin oil-free and radiant.

Rescue Your Skin From Sun Damage With This Ultra-Soothing Facial

So you made the unwise decision to stay out a bit too long in the damning sun without sufficient SPF, and you’re regretting it big-time because your skin now feels burnt and damaged. We could lecture you about the perils of not applying sunblock every day and making sure you reapply when you’re going to be staying out, but we know there’s no use crying over spilt milk – so here’s a constructive solution.
The answer lies in Porcelain Spa, a homegrown aesthetics brand that had its humble beginnings in a HDB bomb shelter about two decades ago. The expert behind Porcelain is veteran aesthetician Jenny Teng, who today runs the business with her daughter, with Porcelain having evolved into a luxury brand that prides itself on its bespoke facial services, with its very own skincare range as well.
Back to the topic of rescuing our skin from sun damage: one of the facials Porcelain Spa offers in its menu is the Sun Rescue Facial. It’s all about calming, repairing and hydrating skin that’s been stressed out by sun exposure, with the key parts of the treatment being cryotherapy and an oxygen infusion.

cleanser     makeup cleanser   skin refiner

Once you’re settled into the treatment room, it begins with a double cleansing with Porcelain’s own makeup and facial cleanser; and as long as your skin isn’t sunburnt, the therapist will follow that with a massage exfoliation using the Revive Natural Skin Refiner.
Here’s where things get cool, literally. A CryoProbe machine is used to bring down the skin’s temperature to -10 degrees Celsius by placing a device with a flat metallic surface over the skin. It’s not so cold that it’s unbearable, and when applied onto the skin with Porcelain’s Soothe Aloe Recovery Gel, it’s positively soothing. The purpose of this part of the treatment is to get the blood vessels in your skin to start dilating and constricting, to promote circulation and get the skin cells regenerated; plus, the cold helps reduce pore size.
Following that is a refreshing oxygen spray that’s really as fine as a mist; it comes infused with a serum that the therapist will select according to your skin needs, and for us, it was a lovely-smelling rose serum to aid hydration. The treatment then concluded with a soothing gel-based cucumber mask, a shoulder massage, moisturiser, and a layer of sunscreen – everything’s done within 60 minutes, so it’s the kind of facial that perfectly fits within your lunch hour. Another thing we really liked about the Porcelain products used during the treatment was that they all felt so gentle, and as our therapist informed us, aloe vera features significantly in the formulations, so they’re great for stressed-out and sensitive skin.
Post-facial, our skin felt a whole lot more hydrated, for sure; but the impressive thing was, for once, heading out without makeup didn’t feel daunting. That’s because our enlarged pores were no longer, well, enlarged, plus our complexion was now emitting a newfound radiance. Now we understand why Porcelain advocates avoiding applying foundation after treatment, and even has their staff go without it as well – yes, you won’t clog your pores this way, but their facials lets you be able to go without it with a peace of mind anyway.

Beautify Your Old Perfume Bottles At These Exclusive Art-Jamming Sessions

We all go through life collecting perfume bottles, whether we stick to just one signature scent or can’t resist trying all the ones that catch our fancy. So, we’re glad Luxasia is giving us the chance to give our old perfume bottles a fresh lease of life, in the form of a fun art-jamming session where you get to get crafty and reinterpret your old bottles at the upcoming Luxasia Beauty Carnival at VivoCity!

Twenty-Something Theatre Festival
CroppedImage600450-Microsite1a Cafe

If you’re an unabashed theatre geek, you’ll probably have been counting down to this for months. And if you’re not – we promise it’s worth checking out. Founded by veteran thespian Tan Kheng Hua, the Twenty-Something Theatre Festival is a new boutique theatre festival celebrating the creative spirit and voice of twenty-something theatre makers in Singapore. The festival features eight brand new, original productions, helmed entirely by said twenty-somethings, under no professional mentor or theatre company’s guidance.
Unfortunately, the festival is well into its second (and last) weekend of plays, but there’s still time to catch the last few acts (*snigger*). Amongst them, Café by playwright and performer Joel Tan is an existentialist’s dream that takes place entirely over truffle fries and waffles; while David Khoo’s Balek Kampung is an AI comedy set in the 22nd Century. Looks like it’s +1 for the Millennials.
Date: 16 to 19 June 2016
Time: 3pm onwards
Venue: Goodman Arts Centre
Admission: $20

The Best Of Both Worlds: Vintage Tech

While it may sound like an oxymoron, make no mistake about the trend known as “Vintage Tech” – it’s definitely on the rise, and for good reason. The polished chrome exteriors of our current gadgets are cool and all, but sometimes, you just want to time-travel and surround yourself with that “retro” vibe. That’s why Lamch & Co. are launching their Heritage II series, combining the homey look of the stereos of the 1950s with high-tech functions such as Bluetooth connectivity and smartphone compatibility.

HeritageII021

The Heritage II Connect and Heritage II Portable speakers are manufactured by Goodmans, a household name in home entertainment since the 1920s in the UK. Deep rich audio is delivered through a combination of high quality speaker drivers and a real wooden cabinet, while multiple equaliser settings let you adjust the music to your tastes.

Heritage II Portable_Wood_L   Heritage II Portable_White_R

While iPhones are great and all, their maximum volume setting tends to be barely audible above the din of a party. Not too great for livening up the mood. That’s why the Heritage II Portable Digital Radio promises to deliver the best sound, anytime, anywhere. Enclosed in a compact real wood veneer wooden cabinet in piano white or in natural wood, and powered by a high capacity rechargeable battery of 5000mAh for up to 10 hours of undisrupted playback on 24W high power stereo speakers, say “bye bye” to awkward dinner conversations over drop-dead silence.

Heritage II Connect_R

For those of us who prefer good ol’ radio, the Heritage II Connect is here for you. Encased in real wood veneer, each radio is unique and different in design. But its nostalgic vintage exterior has also been modernised, boasting a crisp sound quality that is supported by 36W high power stereo speakers, a digital amplifier and built-in DSP (Digital Signal Processing). The large 2.7-inch OLED screen allows for clear display and ease to navigate functions – it’s definitely an advanced radio, but it’s equally user-friendly.

Portable02

The best part? Both the Heritage II Connect and Heritage II Portable speakers have digital radio functions, enhanced with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functions that enable multi-room, multi-zone connected audio playback. You can even use the Bluetooth with NFC function to pair up a maximum of seven Heritage II speakers with compatible NFC smart devices, all with a simple tap on your UNDOK app. This also includes individual volume and master group volume controls, so your guests don’t have to crowd into your living room for the atmosphere.
Compatible with both Apple and Android devices, the UNDOK app also allows you to control the Heritage II speakers via Wi- Fi from your smart device. Not only can you access and stream music from your PC, you can also select from up to 16,000 internet radio stations from all over the world through build-in internet radio. There’s even Spotify Connect compatibility (yes!), so the Heritage II speakers will enable you to stream over 30 million tracks directly from your Spotify app across your home Wi-Fi network.
The future is here, and it sure looks snazzy.
Heritage II Connect and Heritage II Portable speakers, $599 – $699, available at all Anté stores.

How To Style Chokers

We’ll admit that we were never really into the whole idea of wearing chokers as an everyday outfit. It seems daunting to be wearing something so high up our necks and risk looking like we belonged in a circus party. Besides, not everybody can pull of the “goth chic” look that the chokers embodied in the 90s. However, after seeing endless pictures of celebrities or even strangers wearing them, we realised that hey, they aren’t that bad after all! When styled properly, chokers can actually be incorporated into your daily looks as well and we’ve zeroed in on some ways to style the choker:
1. Collared shirts

Button down
Aimee Song, instagram.com/songofstyle. Pull & Bear, $29.90. Topshop, $79.90.

One of the easiest ways to pull off a choker effortlessly. Layer your chokers with other necklaces and pendents, or with a piece of printed cloth tied around your neck. Either way, you’ll never go wrong with this classic look. Of course, be sure to layer an appropriate amount, without any colour clashes. Also, since you’re wearing a shirt that covers your shoulders, avoid wearing a thick choker and risk looking like you’re missing a neck.
2. Bare shoulders
Off shoulder
Lily-Rose Depp, instagram.com/lilyrose_depp. Asos, $13.27.

Wearing a tube or an off shoulder with a choker not only accentuates your collarbones, it gives the illusion or a slimmer neck and small shoulders. Also, it prevents you from looking too bare and simple on top, which is a plus point for night outs or even for formal events.

3. A simple dress
For those who are just easing into the frightening trove of chokers, start off with a simple choker dress of a neutral shade. A choker dress already comes with a neck design that will save you the hassle of matching a necklace with your dress. Once you’ve familiarised yourself with the look, go ahead and delve straight in – pick out a midi dress and pair that with a thin choker that will help you look polished yet edgy at the same time.
Asos, $50.86.

Zara jacket

4. An oversized denim jacket
Denim will never, never go wrong. Stick to the basics as you know it – a cropped top or a plain T-shirt (remember: something that flaunt your collarbones!) with an oversized jacket gives off a relaxed silhouette that’s not too overwhelming. If you’re going to be wearing something simple underneath, you could pair them with a more intricately designed choker; think metal chokers or one with a small pendent. The key to this look is not to overwhelm your coordinate with too much, so stick to thinner chokers and lesser prints.
Zara, $49.90.
