Find Out #WhatMakesYouBlush At This Exclusive NARS x NYLON Party

It is surely one of the most iconic makeup products of our time: the NARS Orgasm blush, created by François Nars in 1999 and known as the peachy-pink shade that has managed to be universally flattering, creating that desired natural flush that fits all skin tones. Since then, it has gone on to become the #1 blush in the USA, winning countless beauty awards and sparking product spinoffs that are all inspired by the Orgasm shade (we’re sure you’ve also lusted over the Orgasm Multiple, Orgasm Illuminator, and the Super Orgasm Blush).
Seventeen years might have passed since the launch of the original Orgasm blush, but we’re far, far from being tired of it. In fact, we’re down for having more of it, which makes the launch of this special supersized version of the Orgasm blush this summer just perfect. It’s designed in collaboration with French artistic director Fabien Baron, and features a special edition of the NARS logo on the outside, a summery model visual on the protective film on the inside, and the hashtag #WhatMakesYouBlush etched onto the mirror of the extra-large compact.

And, an event to celebrate it is in order: We’re throwing the NARS x NYLON #WhatMakesYouBlush Party, where you’ll get to experience all things Orgasm!
Three NARS Lead Artists from South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore will be there to demonstrate the use of Orgasm on models of three different skin tones, following which we’ll be opening the floor for an “Orgasm marathon”: the Lead Artists will be doing as many cheek makeovers as possible on the guests, so you’ll get to experience firsthand how universally flattering the shade really is.

Here are the event details:

New Balance Re-engineered 574 "Breathe"

It’s almost never a great day to be out running in Singapore; extreme heat, humidity and occasional haze being the main factors. But we still do it anyway. No heatwave can get in the way of achieving that perfect body! That’s when you start opting for more premium workout gear; the kind that incorporates various technologies to provide comfort while you’re on beast mode at the gym. This season, New Balance gets in on the action and releases a revamped and modern iteration of its 574 silhouette. The lightweight Re-engineered 574 “Breathe” offers better breathability with a minimal mesh toe that’s paired with a welded, perforated saddle and leather details on the heel tab and foxing. These kicks will be available in four colour blocking styles – grey and white, navy and white, red and white, and black and white.

New Balance Re-engineered 574 “Breathe”, $169. Available at all New Balance concept stores.

All About The All-New Hermès Store At Liat Towers

The flagship store at the corner of Liat Towers was already an Hermès icon — and that’s before this major overhaul took place. You really can’t miss it while walking down the part of Orchard Road that leads to Palais Renaissance or The Forum, so it was rather surprising, almost dismaying, when we heard that the French heritage brand was gonna tear down the place, thirty years after this standalone store was conceived, to make way for something different.

Photo May 19, 10 59 23 AM Photo May 19, 10 24 46 AM Photo May 19, 10 26 01 AM

Well, we’re glad they did. The all-new, all-exciting concept makes the Hermès store feel like a brand new place again, and the refreshed interiors feel more vibrant and welcoming, immediately apparent after we stepped into the store yesterday during the press preview.
The architectural space was entrusted to Paris-based agency RDAI, under the artistic direction of Denis Montel — there’s now an expanded space of 670 sq m of floor and exhibition space, that enables the brand to display their metiers more comprehensively. The exterior of the store is nicely integrated into Liat Towers’ block-like facade, but you’ll also be able to spot a neat quirk that the design studios has included: a “Hermès firework-maker on horseback, his hands raised to the sky with a pair of silk scarves fluttering in the wind”. Way to show off the brand’s rich heritage. Just as well, a limited edition Hermès scarf has been created exclusively for the re-opening.
Photo May 19, 10 38 53 AM Photo May 19, 10 40 03 AM

Inside, and on top of the four floors that now showcase leather goods, scarves, and ready-to-wear collections, there’s a whole home universe space that’s, for the first time in Singapore, presented in its entirety. You can shop the range of Hermès homeware, including exquisite plates, cups, saucers, and textiles; or even pick up some furniture in their cosy, home-like space.
Photo May 19, 10 46 34 AM Photo May 19, 10 52 00 AM

As for the top floor, Level 5’s transformed into an art space called “Aloft at Hermès”. Pop by for an installation of “How to Disappear into a Rainbow” by Singaporean artist Dawn Ng, a poetic space that features a labyrinth of ethereal, pastel hues, blocks and mirror panels in sunrise shades that make great photo ops, or just a place that makes you feel a little lighter as you walk through it. This exhibition will be there from 20 May to 14 August 2016, and you’re free to wander about any time between 10.30am to 8pm daily.
As part of the re-opening celebrations for the Hermès store at Liat Towers, they’ll also be having some in-store festivities this weekend, both Sat & Sun, 21 and 22 May 2016. We heard that there’ll be photobooths against a lush background (just search #hermesliat for a sneak peek), and you’ll get to be one of the first people to explore the new art space at the top floor too. Worth a visit? You bet.

Festival de Cannes: Go Nude Or Go Home

Ah, the glitz and glamour of red carpet events. Cue the exciting buzz about who’s wearing what and endless debates about the best dressed list. Other than celebrity buzz, The Cannes Film Festival is an annual event that previews new international films of all genres and and this year marks the 69th edition of this high-profile international event.
In line with Spring’s understated elegance and muted palettes, several are digging softer looks by incorporating neutral shades and skin-like colours (yes, we’re looking at you, Queen Bey). Yes, we’re all about the nude….colours.
Here are some celebs who are totally slayin’ in neutral tones at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Blake Lively

Can we talk about how Blake Lively just effortlessly looks amazing in everything? (and even more surreally perfect with her baby bump!) Dressed in Atelier Versace, Blake was in a cut out nudish taupe dress that was entirely beaded with Swarovski crystals. Well done S, you totally stole the opening night. xoxo.

Eva Longoria shows how you can wear a long sleeved top and still look sexy and glamorous. Her two tone gown features a sheer beaded long sleeved with a stark white floor-length skirt that swept the floor — and the crowd away.

Bella Hadid

Ok, what is it with the Hadid sisters? They are slowly taking over the world with cheekbones so sharp, they are knifelike. Her plunging nude dress featured gorgeous gold lace and intricate sequin details. Do all 19 year olds look like this nowadays?

Despite the unnecessary flak she received for wearing a bold funky purple lip, Aishwarya Rai looked ethereal in her beaded Elie Saab gown. Straight out of a fairytale, we’d say. A spunky princess with a vampy lip and sultry make up.

Izabel Goulart

Ugh, supermodels look fab in everything – including this lingerie-like outfit that the rest of us normal human beings will look like we’ve just rolled straight out of bed in. Izabel Goulart totally nails it, though. Layered over her white bodice was a lovely blush-hued tie waist coat that trailed behind her as she sashayed down the carpet like a true Victoria’s Secret Angel.

Time to work those neutrals, guys. You don’t have to be in bold colours to be bold.

Step Out With Pride with The Converse Pride Collection

Here’s one for anyone who’s ever wanted to walk on rainbows – with Converse’s newest rainbow design Chuck Taylor sneakers; you can.
But there’s more to the 2016 Converse Pride Collection than just a colourful shoe. Inspired by all the LGBTA communities around the world, the three-piece collection was designed as a passionate reminder for universal tolerance, diversity, and equality – yes, even here in Singapore. It’s the perfect way to stick it to the Man while rocking some sweet kicks; and though nothing beats actually getting educated on the whole #lovewins matter, it’s nonetheless a thoughtful gesture, and a literal baby step forward.

So, the classic Converse Chuck Taylor gets a vibrant makeover in its hi and ox silhouettes. Think rainbow license plate and aglets, woven and/or all-over rainbow splattered canvas, and – our favourite – a premium woven upper in full rainbow colour scheme. Frankly, we’d step out in these any time, anywhere; even if the sneaks were originally designed to be worn at pride parades, concerts, jubilations, and beyond. It’s a worldwide celebration of universal equality and love that we’re thrilled to be a part of – plus, just in time for everyone to step out with pride, with June (ie. LGBT Pride Month) just around the corner. First up: Pink Dot.

Super Japan Matsuri

It’s no surprise that, to some degree, everyone’s a fan of the Land of the Rising Sun. Whether you’re an all-out Otaku or just someone curious for a taste of Japanese culture, you’ll definitely want to make your way down to the Esplanade this weekend for Super Japan – the Esplanade’s newest cultural festival showcasing the arts and culture of Japan.
The actual festival is a 10-day long affair that’s already in full swing, with musical performances (everything from folk music to J-Pop), puppet theatre shows, craft workshops, and activities for the anime fan. But what we’re really here for is the matsuri kicking off tomorrow – a traditional Japanese communal festival held during the summer that’s one part food and another part pure fun. Indulge in Japanese street snacks (takoyaki! Kushimono skewers!) at the seven food and games stalls, where you’ll also be able to try your hand at authentic matsuri games like yo-yo tsuri (yo-yo balloon fishing). It kind of goes without saying, but we’re making a beeline straight for the tako balls.
Date: 20 May to 22 May 2016
Time: 20 May 5-10pm; 21 to 22 May 3-10pm
Venue: Esplanade Theatres on the Bay

Erdinger’s Maifest 2016
1402335_1118697224813813_1294218780228822718_o

It seems the beer just keeps on coming. Maifest isn’t your regular drink-yourself-drunk Oktoberfest though; brought to you by acclaimed brewery Erdinger, the festival is a traditional German celebration of the arrival of spring in May – a joyous occasion of food, drink, and fun. You might also recognise the presence of the Maypole, a giant pole constructed with colourufl ribbons flying around it for people to dance and make merry under. And just because we aren’t welcoming spring for ourselves doesn’t mean we can’t join in on the festivities – it’s two whole nights of German games and prizes, hearty bangers and mash, and lots of beer at Maifest 2016; right here in Singapore. Thank goodness; we didn’t think we could hold out till October.
Date: 20 May and 27 May
Time: 8-10pm and 7-9pm respectively
Venue: Clarke Quay and Holland Village respectively

Big Bang Data
Gunnar Knechtel Photography

Ever felt unbearably overwhelmed by the sheer amount of data and information we’re forced to process everyday? Well, a bunch of exhibitioners clearly have too. In an epic exhibition where art embraces technology, Big Bang Data explores contemporary issues surrounding the sudden big data explosion in the 21st century. Don’t let the sound of that intimidate you though – through the works of artists, designers, journalists and visionaries, the exhibition deals with important topics you didn’t even realise constituted your everyday life; issues like data privacy, security of personal data, and the pervasiveness of technology everywhere. Twenty-four Hrs in Photos, in particular, is more than just a visually stimulating installation; the heap of photos engulfing the room are a commentary on how nothing is private in the public domain. Chilling, but true.
Date: 21 May to 26 May 2016

Get Ready To Celebrate Wealth and Luck at Erdinger's Maifest 2016

Beer: the all-too-familiar satisfaction of a good brew bringing people everywhere together, one wheaty keg at a time, is quite possibly the best feeling in the world. Which is why any event where beer takes centre stage should always be celebrated with fervor – and the reason why we’re already tingling in anticipation of Maifest 2016.
For those out of the loop, Maifest is the traditional German celebration of the arrival of spring in May; and we all know Germans do beer best. Originally a pagan festival, Maifest quickly became a staple of German history and culture for celebrating the coming of the new harvest after a long and cold winter, in a joyous jamboree of sausages, cakes, and multi-coloured ribbons – yup, the famed Maypole.

You may vaguely recall some general knowledge about people dancing around a giant pole, ribbons flying wildly in the air, but the custom of the Maypole is actually a highly regarded one that first started in the tenth century. Villagers would decorate a giant pole in the local square with colourful ribbons – before dancing around and simultaneously “braiding” the ribbons, in and out, under the pole. It’s definitely a pretty sight to see, but more importantly, dancing around the pole was believed to bring good luck, wealth, and the fertility of nature.
While we aren’t exactly celebrating nature’s bright reawakening after the harsh gloom of winter (thanks, Singapore), there’s still much to be grateful for in continuing this tradition. If anything, it’s a happy excuse to bathe yourself in colour and good vibes as everyone comes together to join in song, dance, and lots of beer. All this and more, really, at Erdinger’s Maifest 2016.

You already know Erdinger, one of the world’s largest and best breweries of German wheat beer, who’s been bringing us Maifest for some time now. This year, the fun is doubled with two exciting events, happening a week apart at two separate locations. On 20 May, hustle down to Clarke Quay for a night of German games and prizes, food (bangers and mash, duh), and of course, some hearty Erdinger beer to wash it all down. The festivities repeat again on 27 May at Holland Village, so you can definitely be a part even if you missed the first one. And it’s not just mindless feasting and drinking – look forward to a real Maypole and festive dancers on both nights, a photobooth and even German hair-braiding. How’s that for a memorable photo op?
And for anyone who took a shine to the idea of the lucky Maypole, secure your own good luck beforehand by having a go at the virtual Erdinger Maypole on the Erdinger Maifest Facebook page. All you have to do is spin the pole and enjoy a special promo code at the end; bam, instant fortune.

The Biggest Winner At The Upcoming 2016 Billboard Music Awards: Britney Spears

So the 2016 Billboard Music Awards (BBMA) show is just around the corner, and we can’t wait. Ludacris and Ciara are slated to host this illustrious music award ceremony, with performances by Celine Dion (who will be receiving the Billboard Icon Award), Justin Bieber, Pink, Nick Jonas, Rihanna and more. The nominations are in, with The Weeknd receiving 19 nominations across 16 categories and Justin Bieber, closely behind with 12 nominations in 11 categories. It’s the battle of the Canadians this year, to see who goes home big, just as Taylor Swift did last year when she walked away with six awards for Top Artist, Billboard Chart Achievement Award, Top Billboard 200 Album, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Digital Songs Artist and Top Streaming Song (Video).
As with many music awards show, many things can happen; unexpected winners, wardrobe malfunction, or Kanye going up on stage to interrupt winners… these are the kind of things that make awards shows like this exciting. But this year, there is one particularly big winner; and that’s Britney Spears. The multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning pop icon will be receiving the BBMA Millennium Award, a prestigious prize that has only two other recipients before her – Beyoncé in 2011 and Whitney Houston in 2012 (her late daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, accepted the award). This award will honour Britbrit’s achievements and influence spanning over her 18-year career. She’s one of the most successful and celebrated entertainers in pop history, and you probably own a few of the 100 million records she’s sold worldwide.

She’s already won six other Billboard Music awards in the past – New Artist of the Year (1999), Female Artist of the Year (1999), Female Albums Artist of the Year (1999), Female Singles Artist of the Year (1999), Albums Artist of the Year (2000) and Hot Dance Sales Single of the Year (2004). She’s also received a special award for having the largest first week sales ever for a female artist in 2000, and has had six out of her eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. And that’s just the BBMA.

But most importantly, she won us over back in 1999, when she released the video for her first single, “…Baby One More Time”, which saw her in a Catholic high school girl get-up. Since then, she’s amassed countless awards and accolades including an American Music Award, MTV Video Vanguard Award, Grammy Awards. She’s also been busy with her two-year residency show in Las Vegas titled “Britney: Piece of Me”, which was voted “Best Show in Las Vegas” and “Best Bachelorette Show in Las Vegas”. And not forgetting the 15 fragrances she’s created over 10 years.

This mother of two has been the subject of public scrutiny ever since she was young. She was part of The Mickey Mouse Club along with Christina  Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling and Keri Russell, before the show got cancelled in 1995. She got married once in Vegas in 2004 but the marriage was annulled 55 hours later because she “lacked understanding of her actions”. More drama ensued as paparazzis started to follow her everywhere she went. And who can forget that night when she infamously shaved her head at a random hair salon in Los Angeles? She fully cemented herself as tabloid gold when she attacked a photographer’s car with an umbrella after numerous pleas for privacy. She checked herself into rehab and things got slightly better. In 2007, she released her fifth studio album, “Blackout” and performed the lead single “Gimme More” at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. Despite the lacklustre performance, the single received worldwide success and hit the top ten in almost every country it charted.

Years later, after a custody battle for her kids, being the judge on The X Factor alongside Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid and Demi Lovato, three more studio albums and a cover shoot for V magazine’s 100th issue, she’s back in the studio, working on her ninth album. Britney Spears will be opening this year’s BBMA with a medley of some of her greatest hits over her career. We’ve put together a little playlist of songs we think she might perform on 22 May.

Wonder Woman x Valentino is the High-Fashion Superhero Collection We Need

It seems like we’d be done with anything super this season — and guess what, the summer blockbusters are only just starting. We’ve already got Deadpool, Batman v Superman, Captain America: Civil War; X-Men: Apocalypse out in theatres today; and more upcoming ones in the form of both Suicide Squad and Doctor Strange. You know, if anyone needs a comprehensive list of super-movies that are out this year. Seriously, the silver screen’s just saturated with men and women in tights.
But if you’ve never thought superheroes make much sartorial sense (we’re looking at your Superman), think again. Valentino has come up with a stunning capsule collection that looks to DC Comic’s Wonder Woman, possibly the most well-known female superhero.

Valentino Garavani Starstudded (3) Valentino Garavani Starstudded (5)

Her own solo movie will be out in 2017, but here, we’re privy to star-studded bags, shoes, clothes and accessories that actually look good. “This special capsule collection has been created by the Creative Directors as a tribute to all women, for their capacity of continuously balancing many things in life,” says the brand. Back in April, at three prime locales — Milan, Rome and New York — they also celebrated with a live performance by street artist SOLO, who livened up collection displays with his original murals that saw the superhero running across the walls of Valentino’s best boutiques. Basically, the world isn’t done with superheroes yet — not in the least the fashion world.

More Than 700 H&M Beauty Products Are Coming Our Way

We first got wind of the launch of this gorgeous H&M Beauty collection quite a while back, but we could only lust over it from far, as there was no word about it being available in H&M stores here. But from this Fall, we no longer have to stock up on the super-affordable H&M Beauty products in overseas stores, as Singapore will be the first in Asia to have the very extensive range of makeup, skincare, body care and hair products, right at the H&M Orchard Building flagship.
Let these images speak for themselves as to how lustworthy this collection is, and start marking out which ones you’re going to grab once it hits shelves. We hear there will also be a premium bodycare line and a “Conscious” range of sustainable beauty products, echoing the “Conscious” fashion line that H&M is already known so well for. We know you’ll love the sleek, minimal aesthetic H&M has chosen for the packaging just as we do; props to the brand for knowing that will never go out of style.

What To Try At The New Hello Kitty Cafe In Singapore

First, she raised eyebrows when it was announced, after all these years, that her real name was “Kitty White”. Then, she shocked the world when she revealed that she wasn’t a cat – instead, holy havoc, she is a British schoolgirl. OH MY GOD, we screamed, IT KIND OF MAKES SENSE. White is a Western surname! It took some getting used to, but we finally wrapped our head around the fact that, born to George and Mary White, she was just another angmoh celebrity living the idyllic life in London. But what we’re really trying to say is; time and again, Hello Kitty has proved her indelible impact on us all – not just as Sanrio’s favourite feline, but the entire world’s as well. So it only makes sense that she’s got dozens of cafes all over the world dedicated to celebrating her celeb status – and finally one in Singapore.

image1  Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

The Hello Kitty Orchid Garden Cafe is the first of its kind, right here at Changi Airport Terminal 3 – and rightly so, given that 1) orchids are no doubt our thing, and 2) it’s mandatory that every Hello Kitty cafe in the world feature a different theme. Even when you’re queuing relentlessly outside, you’ll definitely notice Singapore’s national flower draped over every inch of the cafe. It’s a garden city right outside the Arrival Hall that’s bound to be a welcome sight to anyone coming home from a redeye flight; especially since the cafe is the world’s first 24-hour Hello Kitty cafe.
We loved the decor and all – Kitty-bow chairs and silhouetted wrought-iron gates – but obviously we came for the food. If you’re one of those fans who look forward to everything Hello Kitty on your Sanrio dining experience, you might be surprised to find that the excessiveness is toned down here. The double hairbow-ed Singapore Kitty is all about subtlety and mature finesse; kind of like you when you outgrew your cutesy Secondary school days. But of course, that didn’t make it any less exciting.

L-R: Over The Rainbow Salad ($15.90), Cowabunga! Wagyu! ($24), Big Breakfast Surprise ($18.50), Latte.

So naturally, the bestsellers at the cafe are the cuter plates: Let’s Do The Salsa ($16.50), a focaccia chicken and cheese sandwich; the Cowabunga! Wagyu! ($24) beef rendang; and the Instagram-famous Big Breakfast Surprise ($18.50) – basically anything that comes in the shape of Hello Kitty’s head, really. While we were expecting big things from the Big Breakfast Surprise (waffles! smoked duck!), it was surprisingly the beef rendang dish that stole the show. Think generous cuts of wagyu slow-cooked till tender, and sweetened with a unique pineapple spice mix – we kept sneakily going back for more. Hands down the best dish in the whole cafe; we’re calling it. Of course, didn’t hurt that the Japanese rice came neatly packed in our favourite kitty’s likeness.

Enchanted Forest ($17.90) was an impressive blend between presentation and taste – prawns, avocado, and gooey cheddar held snugly by toasted tortillas that exploded in a burst of flavour in your mouth; and all plated neatly on a slab of faux tree trunk, for that real forest-y vibe. (It’s fake wood, we checked.) Not the most photogenic though definitely one of the tastier dishes on the menu.
But nothing says kawaii like a well-plated assortment of sweet treats. For dessert, it was a toss-up between The Cat In Paradise ($18.50) – fluffy mango mousse pudding on a bed of almond crumble, with hazelnut gelato on the side – and Hide & Seek ($16.90), a wobbly pandan pana cotta with gula melaka and vanilla gelato. It doesn’t take a sweet tooth to fall hard for the sweets on offer; we even made room for post-dessert dessert: smooth, creamy soft serve frozen yoghurt made in-house and able to rival any dedicated fro-yo brand.

If you’re looking to bring home a souvenir, the Kitty shelf at the front of the shop offers custom Hello Kitty-inspired tea blends, plush toys (currently OOS), and even grow-it-yourself plant kits – for anyone inspired by the orchid-growing Singapore Kitty’s green thumb. That or you could save the adorable coasters and mini cards that come with your food as keepsakes; because hey! we’re pretty sure recycling’s something Hello Kitty would approve of.

Bottom line: it’s worth a visit, especially to check out how smoothly the Singapore cafe was able to infuse elements of our little island into the story world of Sanrio’s most beloved character. We’ll be honest – you might arrive and be disappointed that it isn’t more in-your-face Hello Kitty; but you’ll find yourself staying for the calming decor, the subtle touches in the food, and the good vibes in the air from a common love and appreciation for a certain Kitty White.
And even if you don’t; the two Hello kitty mascots at the front and end of the cafe are always up for came-and-conquered selfies.

Burberry's Most Coveted Bags This Season

The Rucksack
We’ve never seen a backpack this simple, yet so haute. We are absolutely head over heels with The Burberry Rucksack, which made its debut in the Spring/Summer 2016 “Functionregalia” and has since then taken over Hollywood (and our hearts). It’s been obsessed over and carried by the likes of celebrities such as Taylor Swift, Margot Robbie and Cara Delevingne. Lightweight, waterproof and cute, this nylon backpack with leather trims has just taken functionality (did we mention multi-zip pockets?!) onto a whole new other level. The Rucksack is a modern take on their classic 20th century military style and is available in 3 colours – Mauve Pink, Flax and Pine Green.

It doesn’t matter if you’re planning to dress up or dress down because the Rucksack comes in three functional sizes, so go ahead and wear this ultra haute bag with a gown if you want. You can also personalise the Medium and Large versions by monogramming beautiful embroidered gold letters on the external front pocket to make it even more special than it already is.
