K-Pop's Celebrity Hairstylist Gunhee Has Opened A Salon Here

We’re no stranger to Korean salons setting up shop here and giving us the latest and greatest in Korean hair trends without us having to book  a return ticket to Seoul; but for the first time, we have a K-Beauty salon helmed by a legit celebrity stylist, who’s worked with some of the biggest stars in K-pop.

on

Meet Gunhee. When we say this guy has worked with some of the biggest stars in K-pop, we mean names like 4 Minute, Akdong Musician, JYJ and Super Junior (fans of Super Junior might recognise him from his frequent appearances on band member Kim Hee-chul’s Instagram). Gunhee’s quite a celebrity himself, as you’ll see from his social media following and the numerous loving comments fans leave on his posts.
So it’s a big deal indeed that he’s decided to helm the Bella K-Beauty House Salon here, which has just opened its doors at 1 Nassim Road. He leads a team of four Korean stylists at Bella, each with their own extensive experience working with celebrities and editorial shoots, and specific areas of expertise such as cutting and styling, colouring and perming. There’s also an in-house nail artist to provide a full range of manicure and pedicure services, including customised nail art topped off with Swarovski crystals for something extra fancy.
The salon space itself is spacious and luxurious, with eight roomy leather chairs in front of floor-to-ceiling mirrors with monitors in between, screening videos of Gunhee working on his celebrity clients.

If you want to have a Korean-style digital perm done right, or try the Korean Magic treatment, an upgrade from traditional rebonding that leaves you with natural-looking straight tresses with a curled-in finish, Bella K-Beauty House is now taking appointments. Or for the ultimate K-pop star experience, splurge on a session with Gunhee himself, by appointment only, of course. Then you can tell all your friends you share a stylist with the boys of Super Junior.

Services at Bella K-Beauty House start from $148 for a cut, wash and blowdry, and from $338 for a natural perm. Bella K-Beauty House is located at 1 Nassim Road #01-04, Singapore 258458. Open daily, 10.30am to 8.30pm. To make an appointment, call 6734 3724 or SMS 8127 7904. facebook.com/bellakbeautyhousesingapore

Bugaboo x Diesel Just Released The Ultimate Leather Stroller For Rocker Mums

Parenting never looked this badass.
In the latest and final installation of Bugaboo’s three-year collaboration with Diesel, the folks over at the iconic Dutch stroller brand have released their most kickass stroller yet – a rock-and-roll bad boy coated in leather.

Diesel2_32081 diesel2_31969

Well, leather-look, wax-coated fabric, actually – to ensure that your tot still gets maximum comfort lying in his chic new buggy. Featuring a special edition all-around black stroller with leather-look handlebar and tons of studs, the Bugaboo by Diesel Rock Collection goes out to all the hip young parents, as a salute to trading in your party-appropriate leather jackets for a killer leather buggy that’s just as slick. Don’t see it as leaving your rocker days behind; it’s merely a next-phase-in-life upgrade.
bgb_bee_diesel rock_bassinet profilebgb_diesel rock_bassinet_01      bgb_diesel_studs_footmuff_los

The stroller comes as a complete Bugaboo Bee stroller, a Bassinet Tailored Fabric Set for the Bee, and a Bugaboo by Diesel Footmuff, for more versatility in adding that edge to your regular baby-walking. Think a slick black chassis anodized for durability and corrosion resistance, rock-inspired patches, and a laser-cut backrest tattoo of Diesel’s slogan “Only The Brave” – functional but still dangerously stylish; we approve. Bugaboo was right when it said that parenting is just the other nightclub – where you’ll be up all night like old times in Clarke Quay; though this time with your nocturnal kids instead of your clique. But hey, with a rocking rebellious accessory in tow, there’s a lot less to complain about.

Four Snack Places To Check Out If You're Ever In NYC

First of all, this is by no means a comprehensive list, nor is it a “Best Of” or expert foodie’s recommendation. And especially not when it comes to New York City – where you can live a year in without ever coming close to trying all the amazing food the city has to offer. No; this is simply one person’s unapologetic snacking adventures in the Big Apple, presented to you here because even without breaking the bank, every single dish was so on point. Damn you, New York.

Snow Days NYC

Think a glorious marriage between Korean bingsu and Taiwanese shaved ice; and that’s exactly what Snow Days serves up. Believe it or not, you can get hot and bothered walking around in New York, especially when you’ve trekked miles just to save on a subway ticket. That’s when a cold “snow ice” dessert comes in handy, particularly one located in the hip and gorgeous West Village. I went for a Sweet Milk-flavoured Regular (US$5) snow ice with Oreos and Peanut Butter Sauce, and it did not disappoint.

Insomnia Cookies
Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

Very aptly named – I still lie awake in bed thinking about them sometimes. Soft and beautifully gooey, and delivered straight into your hands piping hot and fresh, these East Coast based cookies are hands down the best I’ve ever tasted in my entire life. And they’ve got a college-friendly history as well, having first started in the dorm room of a UPenn student who hand-baked and delivered his precious treats to students on campus late at night. My favourites are definitely the Peanut Butter Chip and Double Chocolate Chunk, which can and will send you right into a coma the moment they break off in your mouth, Subway Cookies-style. Shout-out to the friendly lady behind the counter for her pro tip: Sandwich one Peanut Butter Chip cookie between two Double Chocolate Chunks and it tastes exactly like a Reese’s Cup. Scout’s honour.

Pies ‘N’ Thighs
Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 preset

Nothing says ‘Murica like chicken and waffles! NYC may not have LA’s internationally famed Roscoe’s, but it sure made up for it with Pies ‘N’ Thighs – a cosy, no-frills chicken joint nestled in the heart of the Williamsburg neighbourhood in Brooklyn. The menu is pretty extensive, with hearty mains like Biscuits & Gravy (US$10), but obviously I came for the Chicken & Waffles (US$13.50). The buckwheat waffles may have looked a little sallow (as sallow as waffles can look, I suppose), but proved surprisingly tasty and without being too doughy. Top ‘em off with two pieces of expertly fried chicken, cinnamon butter, and strawberry jam, and you’ve got yourself an American classic. Penning this just made me salivate.

Momofuku Milk Bar
Processed with VSCOcam with kk1 preset

And of course, we’ve saved the best for last. This tiny dessert bar is no stranger to the likes of Instagram (literally and figuratively), and has fast become quite the Instafood celebrity in its own right. While the company’s first specialty lies in cakes, cookies, and pies, right now the undisputed star product is the creamy soft serve. You have to admit – the Cereal Milk Soft Serve (US$5) is probably the most photogenic ice cream you’ll ever see, but will you believe us when we say it’s the most divine thing you’ll ever taste too? One bite and you’re immediately be transported to your childhood, where you scraped out the last bit of cornflakes from the bottom of your breakfast bowl and happily drank the milk – that now tasted like cornflakes. And this is exactly what Momofuku’s beautiful soft serve tastes like – nostalgic yet bizarrely sophisticated cornflake milk. If there’s one place to hit up when you’re on a food trail in NYC, it’s this. Three cups in two trips and I still dream about it.

Four Online Stores For The Hip Young Mummy

To all the young mummies out there – we get you. It’s tough enough being a 21st century mum as it is; work-life balance isn’t just a struggle for the Dads anymore. But throw on top of your hectic day job the need (or want) to feed your shopping addiction – which, let’s face it, only got worse after becoming a mum – and you’re pretty stretched for time. The solution? Online shopping, of course. It’s goodbye to your days of ASOS and blogshopping; and a hearty hello to online boutiques catered precisely for the hip and happening mum. Here are four new online boutiques to get into the next time your fingers itch for your credit card.

Mummyfique

Screen Shot 2016-04-06 at 4.48.38 PM  Screen Shot 2016-04-06 at 4.51.36 PM

Started by mothers, for mothers, Mummyfique is all about lending a well-manicured hand to the savvy but time-starved mothers of today. From rattles to crib décor, to full-length dresses for your little girl to cut a figure of adolescent elegance in, Mummyfique promises chic sophistication you can inculcate in your child from an early age. An all-essentials-in Baby Shower Trove ($98) comes stocked with a bib, babygro, soft rattle perfect for your newborn, socks diapers and more – more than you need to get you started.
And shopping aside, this Singaporean-started brand even boasts a digital publication, as part of being an ideal digital destination for mothers. Founded by three local high-flying mummies themselves, Mummyfique as a shopping and editorial platform was born out of the frustration at the lack of thoughtfully curated content and online shopping options. Nothing can be more comforting than the knowledge that you’re taking your business to people who’ve been exactly in your shoes – and can deliver the welfare-based experience that you need, just like they promised.

Le Petit Organic

Nothing but the best from New York City, we say; and this mantra rings true with this New York-based child clothing retailer as well. Specialising in fun and quirky clothing and accessories for kids aged 0-8, Le Petit Organic is true to its name in bringing customers the best in sustainable, handmade, and vintage inspired products. Perfect for the eco-friendly mother who still wants quality and variety in her shopping, as clothing for both baby boys and girls range from animal hoodies to cape jackets, to swimsuits, baby rompers, and sleepwear. And if you’re stuck in a rut for the next present-giving holiday, Le Petit Organic is definitely our choice destination for well-made wooden toys and hand-woven cloth accessories. Need a darling suitcase chock full of tea party essentials for your princess’s play date? No sweat; the Maileg Suitcase with Cakes (US$38) is just a click away.
11-5551-00_grande

Le Petit Organic offers international shipping at US$19 flat rate for all orders – a bargain price for the quality and convenience you’re getting in tow.

Pink Chicken New York

Here’s one for the classic yuppie mummy who wants to dress her precious in threads straight out of her own childhood – with a modern edge, of course. The bright colourful patterns and boho styles are a throwback to the unapologetic bold outfits most of us donned in our own childhoods, but this New York label steps it up a notch with contemporary cuts and shapes. Fun fact: founder Stacey Fraser worked a goof 15 years in children’s clothing before starting Pink Chicken, partnering with companies like Ralph Lauren, babyGap, and Tommy Hilfiger – which certainly explains the high fashion look and touch of the clothes. Unlike the other online shops on this list, Pink Chicken is solely a clothing boutique, but no complaints from us here – we’re too busy drooling over the casual-cute kaftan dresses for ladies.

Oh Happy Fry

A photo posted by Oh Happy Fry (@ohhappyfry) on

Think modern day hipster online boutique meets Zara kids – that’s exactly what Oh Happy Fry exudes just from just clicking around the website. The Singaporean online store mainly stocks international labels like kolor, Petits Et Maman, and many others from around the world, and the level of quality curating has quite honestly blown us away. You’ll be scrolling for hours, browsing the children’s clothing – most of which possess an impressively bold street style-like vibe – not to mention the homeware, party props, and even educational storybooks (+1point for the forward-thinking, nurturing mum!) Our favourite section? The “Twinning” category, where you can pick up clothing separates for you and your little one to make a statement without being matchy-matchy in a cliché way. All in all, you’ll appreciate the carefully curated site of edgy yet classy stock, especially if you’re the hip mod mummy who likes to stand out. Definitely not for the run-of-the-mill mama.

You'll Be Getting Serious House Envy With This COS x HAY Collection

For something so minimalist, we’ve got major, major love for this collaboration — kind of the best marriage of two Scandinavian brands, fashion label COS and lifestyle gurus HAY, who share the same playful approach to minimal, functional design, have collaborated for an astounding lifestyle collaboration. I mean, come on, just look at how they’ve managed to style things as ordinary as hangers and candle holders.

Shot01_Detail01_F10_PR Shot01_Detail02_TypeB_F9_PR Shot01_Portrait_TypeB_F8_PR

It’s not the first time they’re working together — COS has been using HAY’s lifestyle products to create nice, cosy spot within their stores, including their gorgeous rails that are used to display key pieces from their seasonal collections. This time though, they’ve carefully curated a collection of objects, accessories and furniture that revolve around the categories of “live”, “work” and “dine.
Shot02_Portrait_F12_PR Shot02_Detail01_TypeB_F9_PR Shot02_Detail02_TypeB_F4_PR

The colour palette’s all pastel, but not at all cloying, as they’ve chosen fresh shades of green, blue and pink that complement each other nicely. Just as well, these are placed alongside tactile light wood and cork finishes, humble materials that are elevated thanks for the elegant styling. Even plain boxes look good! Yep, we’re definitely eyeing the catch-all tins and hexagonal trays.
Shot03_Detail01_F10_PR Shot03_Detail02_F10_PR Shot03_Landscape_F13_PR

Seriously, we can’t think of a better pairing. The only downside is that, well, it kinda is really exclusive — the collection is only available in a handful of stores in Europe, while an edited collection is available online. Though, if they look this good, you’d do anything, and trouble anybody, just to get your hands on the pieces.

We've Already Found The Kylie Jenner Lip Gloss Dupes For You

Of course Kylie Jenner’s newly-launched lip glosses are sold out the day they were launched, as with every restock of the original Lip Kits she’s done thus far. We’ve pretty much given up hope of ever getting our hands on any of the Kylie lip colours in the near future, because there’s just no way we’re going to win against her legions of fans who are always ready to wipe out all the stocks with their well-timed clicks.
So we’re taking the easy way out, by just looking for credible dupes for each of the three lip gloss shades, Like, Literally and So Cute. As with the rest of the Kylie Lip Kit shades, many other more accessible brands already have convincing dupes for the Kylie Lip Glosses, since they’re not exactly groundbreaking colours we’ve never seen before. To put in more bluntly, they’re basically glorified nudes and neutrals you can easily get somewhere else, without the expensive international shipping and the need to camp out on all of Kylie Jenner and Kylie Cosmetics’ social media channels, watching for restock updates.

Southeast Asia's First Pompompurin Cafe Has Officially Arrived In Singapore

This is not a drill.
This April, Southeast Asia’s very first POMPOMPURIN Café will be making its grand entrance at none other than our very own Orchard Central, right here in Singapore. The charming little Sanrio character (is he half bear? Half milk pudding? Well actually he’s just a golden retriever dog with a sassy brown beret) will take centre stage with a menu of cutesy-styled food and beverages, merchandise, and all things Pompompurin.

Mango Soda & Ice Cream Float I am Purin Pompompurin Pudding Cookies & Cream Caramel Latte

And this isn’t just any regular sugary Sanrio-themed café. Every Pompompurin Café in the world adopts a theme unique to the local likes and culture; as such, the Singapore café will be furnished according to a “Garden City” theme, complete with lush greenery and (we’re hoping!) pretty blooms.
EntranceInterior

The first thing you see when you walk into this Pompompurin paradise is the signature Pompompurin Gate, followed by the Pompompurin & Friends Tree. Take a seat at the 4-seater “Tomodachi House” booths, and try not to freak out the cutlery, table mats, and surrounding wallpaper – all Pompompurin-themed, of course.

POMPOMPURIN's Coconut Milk Chicken Curry Mushroom & Bacon Carbonara
Bagel's Special - Pancake Tower POMPOMPURIN's Mango Parfait

But obviously, the star attraction has got to be the cutesy food. Ranging from Coconut Milk Chicken Curry ($17.90) to Pompompurin-shaped taco rice (in a “Cup of Friendship”, no less), to Pancake Towers ($21.99) and Mango Pairfait ($19.99), there’s something for everyone, sweet or savoury tooth. Most excitingly, any purchase of a dish marked with the Pompompurin mug logo entitles you to bring home a brand new Pompompurin mug at the end of the meal – on the house. The café will also be home to exclusive Pompompurin merchandise, if you’re looking for other non-edible souvenirs to fuel your obsession.
Purin Mug Purin Mug

By now, you’re probably as dizzy from seeing the word Pompompurin as we are from typing it. The café officially opens its doors on 18 April 2016, and we can safely say it’s not going to be a quiet affair. Slap on your war paint and get your queue game on, because the Pompompurin world domination has already begun.
Hello Kitty who?

This MAC Star Trek Collection Is Obviously Out Of This World

No shame about that bad intergalactic pun there. In fact, expect to see more of such feeble attempts as MAC Cosmetics continues to unveil more in its 25-piece line dedicated to celebrating Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary.

56fa9e8a1e00008e017118f1

Gold glittery lipstick? Yes please. Dropping globally in September, the collection will feature eye shadows, lip products, and glitter nail lacquers – inspired by the vivacious female characters of the hit TV and film franchise. It pays humble homage to the iconic pop culture phenomena, and, as MAC Senior Vice President James Gager eloquently puts, “celebrates each of Star Trek’s powerful women in a transcending, transformational makeup collection.” We definitely agree. Right now there’s only a sneak peek at the first five pieces; but judging by the “ambassadors” of the campaign alone, we’re guessing there’ll also be celestial shimmery blue hues fit for Seven of Nine, and tons of Vina-approved dramatic dark shades. And… is that green eyeshadow we spy?
Cosmically-charged hues, indeed.

MAC Star Trek collection will be available in September 2016.

The Most Wearable Eyeshadow Colour Of The Moment

We can’t help it – we’ve been obsessed with this colour family of eyeshadows of late. This extremely pretty spectrum of light bronze to rose gold becomes universally flattering when applied on the eyes, and is versatile enough to be worn as a barely-there wash of colour or layered more heavily for something more glamorous.

These runway looks are inspiration enough, and show that it’s really quite hard to go wrong with these colours. The latest makeup launches very fortunately have included a good number of suitable bronze/rose gold options, for all of us to add into our collection of colour staples. You’ll definitely want to have one, or two, or three and above of these eyeshadows – it’s one of those colours that you won’t be able to get enough of.

Move Over Kimoji – MuvaMoji Is The Next Big (NSFW) Thing

If you thought Kimojis were unsettling, get ready for some real sensitive content.
Amber Rose’s emoji app MuvaMoji was released just days ago, and is already making waves in the Internet community for its explicit imagery and heavily pointed social commentary. With over 900 unique images, it’s a lot to pick from for only US$1.99. There’s twerking, BDSM featuring very, err, submissive males, and even animated pole dancing (a “tribute” to the model’s stripper days, probably). Most contentious of all, though, has to be the single, straightforward mugshot of a grim-faced Bill Cosby holding up the sign “I DID IT” – which no doubt highlights Amber Rose’s stance on the whole case. Talk about putting the ‘graphic’ in graphics.

Don’t bother giving MuvaMoji flak for “copying” Kimoji though. For one, Amber Rose has made it clear that both women don’t view the other as competition in the app store, and that the emojis are tailored to the different qualities each socialite’s fan base supports them for. If anything, MuvaMoji has proven to be a lot more inclusive, in allowing users to customise skin colours and sizes of most of the emojis. And that said, our humble hats off to Amber Rose for reaping in a whopping $4 million on the app store since MuvaMoji’s release. That’s a lot of dough to be getting for simply giving the world some new NSFW emojis to pimp up their text messages.

Here's Your Ultimate K-Beauty Guide

We admit that the Internet is already overflowing with K-Beauty how-tos, covering everything from a million tutorials on how to do a gradient lip right, the precise combination of complexion products to get mul-kwang-pi-bu skin, and guides to the intricate skincare routines Korean women are known for – they are obviously doing something right, because how else are so many women walking around the streets of Seoul with clear, glowing and seemingly ageless skin?
Obviously, we’ve tried to navigate a good number of these guides and tutorials ourselves, in a quest to get in on the K-Beauty game. But we’ve yet to come across a K-Beauty guide that’s comprehensive enough to cover both skincare and makeup trends at one go – so we decided to put together our own. For this, we’ve turned to the array of Korean brands Sasa Singapore stocks, because they sure have got a wide selection for all needs and tastes; and there’s something for every part of a K-Beauty regime, no matter how many steps there are.
This definitely isn’t a straightforward, 5-minutes-in-the-morning-and-you’re-good-to-go kind of beauty regime, but it’s definitely worth the extra time and effort, trust us.

SKINCARE

skincare

Step 1: Cleanser/Makeup Remover
Soo Beauté Snail Rejuvenating Delicate Cleanser, $17.90; Soo Beauté Rice Comfort Purity Cleansing Water, $12
Once you get over the slight icky factor of putting snail secretions on your skin, you’ll come to realise that it’s really a superb anti-ageing ingredient, highly capable of nourishing and repairing the skin. The Koreans have been putting it into their skincare products for some time now, and this light foam cleanser gives you a daily dose. Twice a day, squeeze a small amount onto your palm and apply it over a wet face in circular motions, and rinse with lukewarm water. It’s able to remove light makeup as well.
There are no snails in the Rice Comfort Purity Cleansing Water, but there’s rice extract, another ingredient popular in Korean skincare for its powerful brightening abilities. Pour a small amount out on a cotton pad and use it to remove your makeup; besides brightening, it helps to soothe and moisturise tired skin at the end of a long day.
Step 2: Toner
Dr. G AQUASIS Moisture Toner, $37
If you’re familiar with Korean skincare, you’ll know that a lot of it is about hydration, hydration, and more hydration. This toner helps boost the circulation of moisture within the skin, and the skin’s ability to retain moisture for a longer time. It’s in a water-based texture that’s not sticky at all, so go ahead and pour out an appropriate amount on a cotton pad, and pat it over the entire face after the cleansing step.
Step 3:Serum
Dr.G AQUASIS Moisture Ampoule, $46
Of course, the hydration doesn’t stop there. After toning, follow up with an intensive moisture treatment in the form of this serum, which has double the concentration of hyaluronic acid as compared to the toner of the same range. Using the dropper, dispense one or two drops into your palm and pat onto the entire face – you’ll find that it’ll be quite easily absorbed, thanks to the lightweight texture.
Step 4: Moisturiser
Dr. G AQUASIS Water Soothing Gel Cream, $43
When choosing your daily moisturiser, it’s important to choose one that hydrates while still letting the skin breathe, especially important in the humidity we live in – that’s why a water-based gel texture is usually best. This one from the Dr. G AQUASIS line also helps cool down the skin thanks to the buckweed seed extract, has no sticky finish, and absorbs quickly – the hyaluronic acid in this has a low molecular weight, so it can penetrate deeper into the skin. Pick up a small amount with your fingers, and apply it over the entire face. Tap it into the skin to boost absorption.
Step 5: Eye Treatment
Soo Beauté Bio-Cellulose Snail Lifting Eye Patch, $21.90
We’re aware that according to Korean makeup trends, eyebags can be seen as desirable – that’s where undereye highlighters come in to achieve that aegyo-sal look. But when it comes to actually caring for the skin around your eyes, that’s a different matter altogether, as fine lines and sagging skin most definitely aren’t cute. The snail secretion filtrate and acai berry extract in these patches do all the lifting and firming, so just leave them under the eyes a few times a week – while you catch up on those K-dramas, perhaps.

MAKEUP
face

Step 1: Foundation
Chosungah22 C & T Blend, $88
Mul-kwang-pi-bu skin, here you come. This 2-in-1 foundation does all the math for you, by combining the liquid foundation and clear skin-plumping gel in the right proportions. Mix them first before applying onto your face, and simply twist the jar in one direction to get more foundation for higher coverage, or twist it the other way to dispense more of the gel for more glow.
Step 2: Highlighter
Chosungah22 24H Raybeam Cream, $43
That Korean dewiness also comes from strategic use of highlighter. With this one, press the flat top of the jar to dispense just a pea-sized amount on one fingertip, then blend it on your T-zone, cupid’s bow, chin, eyelids and in the inner corners of the eyes, to get the glow on all the right places.

Step 3: Brows
Chosungah22 Dong Gong Minn Brow Maker, $34
You know those brows gotta be straight. The applicator on this brow colour will come in useful for that, with the pointed sponge tip that will fill in your brows efficiently, and the bristles to comb through the hairs and spread the colour out evenly. The sponge applicator also helps with outlining the outer pointed ends of your brows precisely.
Step 4: Eyeshadow
Chosungah22 Jello Colour Kit, $60; Cyber Colors Argan Glam Cushion Aurora Eye Pot, $16.90
The six neutral eyeshadow shades in this palette come with what the brand calls a “bounce formula”, which means the texture of the product has a jelly-like consistency, making the pigments extremely easy to pick up and blend. K-Beauty is all about the natural eye colours, so pick up a shade like #22MARS, a sparkly brown, to blend all over the crease. Cyber Colors has a cushion version in six individual pearlescent shades, so just pick up the colour with a brush or sponge tip and tap it onto the eyelids.
Step 5: Eyeliner
Cyber Colors 24H Eyeliner Duo, $18.90
Whether you feel like lining your eyes with a gel or liquid formula on any given day, this double-ended one from Cyber Colors gives you both. To make lining your eyes easier, you can also start by outlining your desired eyeliner shape with the pencil end, and then filling in with the liquid end for a high-impact finish.
Step 6: Mascara
Chosungah22 Rocking Volume Mascara, $34
This mascara brush has been designed to resemble a bullet shape, with the plentiful bristles coating each individual lash with the intense black formula (which also happens to have lash conditioning properties). Start by applying the mascara with the middle of the brush, moving across the lashes in a zig-zag motion; for harder-to-reach areas like the bottom lashes and the corners of the eyes, use the tip of the brush for better control.

colour

Step 7: Blusher
Cyber Colors Argan Glam Cushion Massage Blusher, $24.90
Cushion blushers are really genius inventions – all you have to do is squeeze the tube just a little for some colour, press the cushion puff to your cheek, and tap from the centre of the face towards the outer corners for a wash of natural colour. All three shades in this range are K-Beauty appropriate; for a more feminine look, keep the colour to the upper parts of the cheeks.
Step 8: Lip Colour
Cyber Colors Argan Glam Anti-Lines Cushion 2-Step Massage Lip Paint, $26.90
No need to think too hard about how to nail a perfect gradient lip. With this, simply apply the lip crayon in the centre of the lips, then use the sponge tip on the other end to blend the colour outwards, so it becomes lighter towards the outer corners and boom – gradient lips in under a minute.

If we could describe K-Beauty in one phrase, it would be “Worth the effort”. Don’t get scared off by the sheer number of steps in this regime; the key is to use quality products, like the ones listed here, that make it all a whole lot easier.

The Best April Fools' Pranks of 2016

So April 1st came and went, and props to you if you managed to get through it unscathed! But as much as we enjoyed stifling the odd chuckle at humble prank attempts from friends on Facebook, those were unfortunately nothing compared to some of the gags major (and minor) corporations pulled this year. It takes some balls to be able to put your brand’s name and reputaion on the line, all for a good laugh – but pulling it off just makes it all the more impressive. Here’s a round-up of all our faves.

1. Lindt vegetable-flavoured chocolate

Yum? Following up from 2015’s garlic-infused chocolate prank, the Swiss chocolatier took to Facebook to announce a new flavour to their popular treats – none other than “irresistibly smooth” broccoli.

2. AerieMan

American Eagle’s female-only lingerie subsidiary led the guffaws with its video introduction of #AerieMan – a campaign very in line with their positive body image efforts but this time, featuring very real, very, erm, sensual dudes. While the joke definitely was in good fun, Aerie proceeded to follow up with an official statement announcing that the brand would henceforth “forego retouching its male models in its underwear and swim images beginning holiday 2016”, just like it had done with its female models. While the rest of the world is still caught up in petty offence and hurling backlash, we say: take a chill pill, guys; it was still a funny video.

3. LlaoBroccoli

What’s with the obsession with using veggie-flavoured desserts as a joke?? Seems like even our Singaporean subsidiary brands know how to let loose and have fun, though we can’t imagine who would actually queue for broccoli-flavoured frozen yogurt.

4. Charlie Lim as Singapore’s next EDM artist
charlie-edm-banner

Absolutely adorable. In a gag geared towards all the #supportlocal fans here on the island, the folks over at Bandwagon (a local startup centred around all things music in Asia) gave singer-songwriter Charlie Lim a boost in announcing his retirement from the local indie music scene – for a burgeoning new career in electronic dance music. We like how they neatly slipped in Avicii’s retirement from EDM as opening new doors for Lim, but major props for the effort to do an actual interview featuring snooty answers you wouldn’t usually expect from the genteel musician. And the album title “Live. Laugh. Love”? Luvvit.

5. Mark Zuckerberg for H&M
Screen Shot 2016-04-04 at 10.45.13 AM

In this epic April Fools’ collaboration, one thing stands out – Mark Zuckerberg sure is a good sport. The exclusive H&M collection is simple and to the point – just like the CEO of Facebook himself – comprising Zuckerberg’s signature blue jeans and basic grey T-shirt. Well, seven basic grey tees, that is – one for every day of the week. We love the attention to detail in the website and product photography; there’s even a handy lookbook to illustrate just how versatile this powerful look is, if you didn’t already realise. But jokes aside, is it scary that we could actually see this collaboration being legit?

6. Imjennim styles a trash bag

While the bubbly youtuber behind fashion styling channel ClothesEncounters isn’t exactly a corporation risking big bucks, her legion of 1.6 million subscribers definitely aren’t a trifle fan base to be messed with. Which is why her endearing joke styling video involving household waste bags and, for the first time, voiced by her British boyfriend, makes it onto our list. Fair warning before you watch – she actually makes it look good.

7. Lairbnb

Sorry world, but this prank was hands down our favourite. By now we’re all used to AirBnb’s killer video and marketing team, so when they released a promo trailer advertising fantasy lairs for booking for your next holiday, you can imagine we were all spellbound – even if it was just a joke. But the folks at AirBnb took it one step further – by making these accommodation options a reality. Navigating the site, you’ll be able to find genuine listings on Airbnb that promise a real fantasy experience; whether it’s living in an underground home fit for a hobbit, or hiding out in a real-life Scandinavian castle.

And that’s how you capitalise on April Fools’ for marketing, folks.

Chanel's Beige Gold Rings Are Our Latest Jewellery Crush

Oh, what we’d give to own a little piece of Chanel — totally possible, by the way, after last year’s launch of Coco Crush, a fine jewellery range that sees the fashion house’s famous quilted pattern engraved on rings and cuffs. Well, look out for its new version, and our new crush: the Coco Crush collection now comes in a pleasant Beige Gold.

Far more pleasing to the eye than Yellow Gold (it’s less gleaming and more subtle), and more versatile than Rose Gold, the metal’s shade sits between these two gold variations, and manages to look completely modern yet classic. The colour isn’t super new — it was previously spotted on the Première watches — but 18k Beige Gold sounds just about right for rings that blend in so seamlessly into any outfit, proving how versatile the jewellery can be. Then, there are diamond pavé rings, because, why not? Brilliant white diamonds are set on a white gold base, rounding up the ultimate luxurious collection, one that rightly belongs to all our wishlists.

Kylie Jenner Is About To Launch Lip Glosses

Is the matte lip era about to be over? While we’re still recovering from the madness that the Kylie Lip Kits unleashed, the Kylie Cosmetics Twitter account just posted a tweet in the early hours of today, announcing the video for the Kylie lip glosses:

It’s less of a promo video and more of almost a short film, really. It depicts King Kylie rolling up to a motel in the desert in a posh convertible, while her girl gang proceeds to rob the crooks inside and they all flee the scene, leaving a trail of cash behind – all while applying shiny coats of the lip glosses now and then. It’s dramatic, over-the-top, and completely Kylie Jenner, and we kind of love it already.
And the shades? The three debut ones are named “Like”, a warm brown; “Literally”, a slightly lighter brown with golden tones; and “So Cute”, a warm nude that’s the lightest of the range.

We didn’t expect Jenner to move in the opposite direction from the matte lip that everyone has been obsessed with for such a long time now; after all, shiny lips hasn’t been a big thing since the mid-2000s. Will these glosses be wiped out as quickly as the Lip Kits? We might find out within a day, as this tweet hints:

Semes like the glosses might be launched as soon as later today, once it’s 1 April over in the US. Or… might it just be an elaborate April Fool’s joke that Jenner has pulled on all of us? Maybe the beauty world isn’t ready to go back to glosses just yet. Whatever it is, keep your eyes peeled and your fingers ready, because you need to be doing some real fast clicking if you want to get your hands on the glosses if they really go on sale today.
