10 Times Ariana Grande Owned The Internet

By now you’ve probably already seen Ari’s sick guest appearance on Saturday Night Live, killer musical impressions and all. (And if you haven’t; how? Why? Are you on a staunch social media fast?) Either way, it all just chalks up to another instance of little miss Ariana Grande blowing us away. The girl’s come a long way from her Victorious days, so here’s to celebrating the many times Ari owned the Internet – insane vocals or not.

1. That time she nailed her Celine Dion impression

(Simultaneously destroying Jimmy Fallon at his own game.) Obviously Fallon’s Wheel of Musical Impressions is meant to showcase his guest, but like the rest of the online world, we were not prepared for Ari’s spot-on impression of the 90’s Queen, complete with passionate chest hits and signature audience interaction.

2. And when she did it again on SNL

Ariana Grande does Whitney Houston and more

More of the amazing impersonations from #ArianaGrande #90s #SNL

Posted by Global TV on Sunday, 13 March 2016

Sure she rocked Britney and Shakira (and an impressive eye-opening impression of Jennifer Lawrence), but it was with Celine Dion’s It’s All Coming Back To Me Now that we took our hats off and flung them into Ariana Grande heaven. We can’t stop replaying, and we’re sure you can’t either.

3. When she was Chewbacca

Able to laugh at self in good fun? Check.

4. That amazing time she got smacked in the face by a VS Angel wing

The honourary Angel took it like a winner, even if that face of fear has permanently etched a place in our memories forever.

5. Every time she’s practised healthy, non-controversial feminism

The feisty 23-year old has a point to make and isn’t afraid to share it. Whether it’s banding together with fellow female artists to stand against discrimination in the industry (read: Kesha vs. Dr. Luke) or involving herself in girl empowerment personal projects, Ari’s shaping up to be quite the feminist figure in pop music today. And ooh, is that a burn we smell in some of her tweets?

6. When she shut down her haters with a slick comeback

A photo posted by Ariana Grande (@arianagrande) on

No boobs? No problem. When an Instagram troll commented “my 9 year old sister has bigger tits than you” on a picture, the pop star promptly replied, “spend a lotta time looking at your 9 year old sister’s tits? :/” Love it.

7. That time she included Robbie from Victorious in her One Last Time music video

Yes!! Our hearts melted when we first glimpsed Ariana’s One Last Time, which prominently featured Matt Bennett as her love interest. For those of you who don’t know, Matt played Robbie Sharpiro in Victorious, the socially-awkward geek who occasionally had a thing for Ari’s character Cat. So playing her love interest in a music video can only mean that everything’s finally come full circle! Hooray Robbie!

8. When she momentarily revived to send One Last Tweet before she died, in true Chanel #2 fashion

via GIPHY

Ari’s time on Scream Queens may have been brief, but the world definitely enjoyed seeing the ridiculous way her ditzy character went.

9. When she banded with Miley to express love for all

Just using a soothing rendition of a classic to stand up for what’s right in a cosy animal onesie.

10. And face it – basically every single time she opened her mouth to belt a song
She may not be queen now, but royalty is definitely in the stars for this sugary princess and her unassuming petite frame. The lungs in this girl, wew!

This Compact Is Following Us Everywhere

Here’s what usually in our bag: A foundation compact, usually in cushion form, for mid-day touch ups; a tube of liquid concealer, to keep blemishes and discolourations hidden from view; and our choice of lip colour for the day.
It’s not a lot, but we find ourselves having to either keep these securely in an inside compartment of our bags, or be reduced to digging around the dark depths of our bags to find it each time it’s time for a touch up. And then there’s the matter of carrying so many things around just for the sake of keeping our makeup looking decent…
But things are about to change, now that we’ve encountered this multi-layered wonder:

revlon colorstay

Revlon’s new ColorStay 2-in-1 Compact Makeup & Concealer has pretty much everything in one nifty compact, that opens up to reveal three layers hidden inside. Each shade of the cream-based foundation has already been paired with a matching cream concealer, saving you the trouble of having to figure out your correct shade for two separate products. The way the concealer lies on a separate tray that smoothly lifts off the foundation layer impressed us enough; but there’s more: below the foundation tray, you’ll find a mirror, and a teardrop-shaped sponge to help get everything nicely blended – no more having to use your fingers, because you’re too lazy to pack a brush or sponge out.
The cream dries into a semi-matte powder finish, which is the best kind of texture to eliminate mid-day shine. Do note that this might not be the best thing for dry patches, as there is a tendency for the formula to appear patchy on dry skin. We suggest using this for touch ups on the T-zone, or anywhere else on your face that gets a little sweaty, since Revlon’s ColorStay range is known to be sweat-resistant.
Our bags and purses are about to get a little emptier, then, now that all we need is this little compact, and our lip colour du jour. Maybe now we’ll finally have space for a mini fragrance spray…

There's A Mini Film Festival Coming This March

Love film festivals but can’t be arsed to wait till the second half of the year to get your fill? For a swift and satisfying solution, there’s the Singapore Cult & Underground Film Festival (SCUFF) 2016, happening this end March. And no, you don’t have to be a moody hipster to attend.
Brought to you by SCUM Cinema (read: Society for Cult & Underground Movies. Ah, right.), SCUFF 2016 will see the screening of four handpicked independent films, having all passed SCUM’s personal penchant for the Bizarre and the Weird in reel life. It may only be a mini film festival, but you’ll be pleased to know that the films cover the genres of horror, comedy, and documentary – and will be screened at indie fave The Projector too. Check out the lineup below!

Housebound

A 2014 SXSW favourite, plus Winner of Dead By Dawn Film Festival 2014, this New Zealand Horror Comedy revolves around home-detained delinquent Kylie Bucknell (Morgana O’Reilly), who has to grapple not just with her comically dysfunctional family – but also with what’s potentially a hostile spirit who isn’t exactly thrilled to welcome her home.

Date: 24 March 2016, Thursday
Time: 8.30pm
Venue: The Projector
Rating: NC16 (Consumer Advice: Violence & Gore)
Admission: $13

Goodnight Mommy

This one I can personally lend my vote of confidence to. The brand of psychological horror presented in this 2014 Austrian film is the kind that stays unnervingly with you – for weeks after. And with the exquisitely sinister camerawork, it’s clear to see why Goodnight Mommy won Best Cinematography in the 2015 European Film Awards. The story is set in an isolated lakeside house, where ten-year-old twins await their mother to return from extensive surgery. When she does, her head bound completely in bandages, she seems… different. Watch as the two embark on their chilling mission to discover the truth about the person who seems nothing like their mama.

Date: 25 March 2016, Friday
Time: 8.30pm
Venue: The Projector
Rating: NC16 (Consumer Advice: Some Violence & Nudity)
Admission: $13

Remake, Remix, Ripoff

Here’s one for the Experimental Documentary buffs – Remake, Remix, Ripoff is a look into the colourful and bizarre world of Turkish cinema; or specifically, how the Turkish film industry “Yeşilçam” has been based entirely on copy culture and stolen material. Zero copyright laws from the ‘60s to ‘80s meant endless cinematic possibilities, which basically translated to unrestricted use of plotlines, musical score, even full-on pre-existing footage – and entire Star Wars scenes from stolen reels, as one particular filmmaker nonchalantly recounts. We quote: “I don’t even have money for catering; how am I to pay for an orchestra?” You tell ‘em, bruh.

Date: 26 March 2016, Saturday
Time: 5pm
Venue: The Projector
Rating: R21 (Consumer Advice: Sexual scenes)
Admission: $13

Raiders!

And finally, rounding up the film fest is a heartfelt ode to the film industry, in the form of an outrageous documentary detailing the journey of the making of a fan film. Rewind back to 1981, when three 11-year-olds from Mississippi were so inspired by Steven Spielberg’s Raiders Of The Lost Ark that they decided to make a tribute – with a shot-for-shot remake that took eight years to make. The story doesn’t end there though. Raiders! presents, three years on, a fulfilling close to the boys’ efforts, which were incomplete without the vital Nazi fight scene that they were unable to replicate back then. If you think about it, it’s essentially a film about the real-life exaggeration of an appreciation of film, so – good move, SCUM.

Date: 27 March 2016, Sunday
Time: 5pm
Venue: The Projector
Rating: PG13 (Consumer Advice: Some drug reference)
Admission: $13

The Suminagashi Collection By Onitsuka Tiger

Marbling is a technique that has always been very appealing because each print is a unique monotype. And like many artforms, there are many different methods, each with their own set of history, traditions and cultures. For a brand like Onitsuka Tiger, which is pretty much one of the oldest shoe companies in Japan (and with a history dating back to 1949), it’s no surprise that they have the deepest and utmost respect for tradition. This year, Onitsuka Tiger has released a new collection of shoes that bear the beautiful artwork born out of the traditional Japanese technique, suminigashi. It’s a method that is believed to be the oldest form of marbling, stretching back to over 1,000 years. Suminagashi, which literally means “ink-floating”, involves dropping ink or pigments into a viscous solution (usually water with a layer of oil on it) and later blowing the surface to create the design. Alternatively, the artist can also create the swirls using fan, a straw, a split piece of bamboo or a piece of human hair until the entire surface of the water is filled with concentric rings. Once that is done, the design is then transferred onto the canvas of two of Onitsuka Tiger’s silhouettes, the MEXICO 66 and APPIAN. The result? A comfortable pair of shoes donning the work of great traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Watch the entire process here:

We Got Schooled By The K-Beauty Experts

Last Saturday morning, we got up bright and early to head to the InterContinental Hotel, where we entered one of the function rooms to find K-Beauty skincare and makeup essentials from LANEIGE all laid out on the tables.

IMG_0385
It’s hard not to get super excited just looking at all of that.

We were there, together with an exclusive guest list of NYLON Singapore readers, for the LANEIGE x NYLON Singapore School Of K-Beauty Workshop, to pick up tips and tricks from the brand’s experts on how to nail K-Beauty looks using the latest Two Tone Collection.
LANEIGE Singapore’s trainer Tina Oh kicked off the session with an introduction to the brand’s whitening White Plus line, going into the technologies behind star products such as the White Plus Renew Skin Refiner and White Plus Renew Original Essence_EX. After all, a big part of K-Beauty is a bright, luminous visage, all the better to show off the colours of the makeup.
And after getting our faces clean and bare and layering on the White Plus Renew line, we were ready to start with the makeup. LANEIGE’s bubbly Global Trainer Cat Koh, the brand’s makeup expert all the way from the Seoul headquarters, dispensed practical advice on keeping our base makeup long-lasting and shine-free, before moving on to how to use the new Two Tone Shadow Bars and new Two Tone Lip Bar shades to create four different looks.

LANEIGE sticks to one important rule at its beauty workshops, and it’s that participants have to try putting on the makeup by themselves. Everyone gladly followed this rule, trying out applying the Two Tone colours on themselves with a little help from the LANEIGE beauty advisors on hand, and Cat herself.

If you were at the workshop, we hope you had fun (because we sure did)! Don’t fret if you didn’t manage to join us this time – we’ll be having more events coming your way in time to come. Also, follow the LANEIGE Facebook page for updates on the brand’s future beauty workshops.

Don't Freak Out But… More Hello Kitty by OPI Colours Are Here

The incredibly cute Hello Kitty by OPI collection first debuted at the end of last year, and we don’t blame you if you were one of those who proceeded to freak out, and then rush out to the stores to grab all 12 shades.

This #HelloKittybyOPI mani has our 'nails in the clouds'! Get the look: opi.is/nailart

(See what we mean?)

And now, there’s more to freak out over, because OPI has released four more limited edition Hello Kitty shades, this time with a very spring-appropriate Cherry Blossom theme. That means pretty tones of pink of course, two of them to be specific: Sitting Under Cherry Blossoms, a feminine creme baby pink, and Dreams Of Spring, a light lilac that’s more minimal. The other two shades are Cheery Blooms, a cool-toned classic red, and Showered By Petals, a creme white that will come in handy for nail art.

If it’s the two pink shades you’ve got your eye on, you can get them in the Blossoms In My Bag duo pack that also includes a cosmetic bag featuring our favourite Kitty looking insanely adorable dressed in a pink kimono.

We’re aware that Hello Kitty brings out the irrational side in many (read: the fast food chain plushies that inspire a stampede), but with these colours, we’d like to think any freaking out is warranted by how these are classic shades that are actually very necessary to our nail polish collections.
These new colours have recently launched in stores, so you’ve got to be quick: Hello Kitty merchandise waits for no man or woman, as Singaporeans should know. We really don’t mind being called Kitty-krazy.

Converse Chuck II Reflective Print Collection

Remember a time when Converse sneakers were a staple on your rack of shoes? Well, with the new Chuck II kicks, they’re bound to make its way back into your life, especially with the new Lunarlon update, foam-padded collar, non-slip tongue, micro-suede lining and other minor aesthetic changes. Come Spring this year, the new Chuck Taylor All Star II Reflective Print Collection will continue this fairly new chapter that Converse has embarked on. This fresh collection sees reflective camouflage prints on the canvas upper on both the hi-top and ox silhouettes, paired with muted colours and monochrome matt eyelets. Just like reflective panels you see on roads, a flash of light on the shoes will reflect it, bouncing off these striking patterns.

Why Are We So Obsessed With Gem Biscuits?!

Yep, they are every Singaporean’s favourite childhood snack — that also simultaneously divides any table of friends (“I bite the sugary bit first!”/”No way, that’s the part I save for last! How could you.”). If there’s anything that perfectly encapsulates the mania of 90s old-school nostalgia, it’s this humble round biscuit, with a bright sugary top, that’s now everywhere and immortalised in more ways than any Egyptian Pharaoh ever was (Ozymandius, who?). Magnets? Earrings? Cushions? Yes, yes and yes — and you’ll find them all here. SG50 may be sooo 2015, but here’s to the actual gem of the year.

Livin’ It Up

This will be the talking point of your dining table, and you get to own a piece of irony too — I mean, a sugary snack that dispenses savoury seasoning? Tricksy. Designed by LOVE SG, the Iced Gems Salt & Pepper Shaker ($29.90) allows you to shake it off in style, especially since good old ceramic’s given a nice glossy glaze and a gilded base. Fancy gems, indeed.
Still, if you’re thinking of a totally different home decor style, one oozing with retro, pastel vibes (read: sg hipster), then this wheniwasfour Foodie Wooden Coaster ($5.50) makes for the perfect table setting. They also have ice pops, kueh lapis and ang ku kueh designs to up the local foodie flair. No more unsightly water marks on your raw wood table.

Honestly, plushies aren’t really our thing, but it’s mighty hard to resist these cuddly beings that are much easier to own, than say, a cuddly kitty/puppy. Rest your head on that cushion, topped with a wheniwasfour cushion cover ($28) in a nice cotton linen, wrap your arms protectively around these Meykrs cushions ($29.90) or have squishy comfort on the go with their keychain ($9.60). Sure, the love may only ever be one way, but you won’t know the difference.

wheniwasfour happens to be owning this gem biscuit madness by the way, so you’ll find their pastel prints on all sorts of stuff, including this tee ($32.90). Printed on 100% cotton preshrunk jersey knit, the t-shirt’s a not-so-subtle way to declare your love for the snack, while you can store all the snacks you want in this roomy silkscreen tote bag ($24), that looks a tinge more rustic than normal due to its unique printing method.

Pinterest-worthy pins are also a thing, if you happen to like these things. More wheniwasfour accessories, now in ever-lovable stud earrings ($14.90) and rings ($15.90), because wouldn’t it be ridiculous if you wore a shirt, carried the tote bag, and also flashed your favourite biscuits every time you do that “hand adjusting hair” pose for your #ootd? Two in one, earrings and ring, both sorted. Made from polymer clay, they actually look like the real deal. These are the tiniest ones we’ve seen, in the form of globe rings and necklaces (from $20.25) by thepigbakesclay, aka Lixuan, who has a passion for creating minature food-based accessories from polymer clay. For a bunch of other things she sculpts, think kueh lapis, rabbit sweets, gummy bears and Hello Pandas. Some of these are tinier than your finger.

Just take a close look at the amount of detail on these earrings ($26.08) and rings ($20.44) — the pastels look genuinely pastel-ly, the sugar tops look light and airy enough to eat, while the biscuit base has got some legit golden-brown dusted effect going on. Hands down, the most intricate we’ve seen, made also from polymer clay by dollfoodminiatures on Etsy. Milla and Olya Li are actually a pair of food jewellery designers from Russia, and their handiwork, everything from fig stud earrings to French dessert ones are amazing, down to the glaze. These iced gem ones take the cake though.

Brace Yourselves, There's A Robot Hello Kitty Theme Park Coming To Singapore

Brace yourselves, people – coming this June, Suntec City is about to get a whole lot uglier.
We mean this in the best possible way of course. Because on 10 June, a robot-themed Hello Kitty theme park will be coming to Singapore for the first time – which makes us the first in Southeast Asia too.

Brought to you by Mighty Eight, the interactive theme park “Robot Kitty” will be held at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, and will go on for 11 whole days. It’s been a hit in Hong Kong, Japan, and most prominently, Taiwan, which is probably why Robot Kitty is finally making her/its way onto our shores. If attractions like Trickeye or the Alive Museum are your kind of thing, you’ll love the Robot Kitty Park, which comprises five interactive gaming zones and tons of photo-taking zones. And obviously, it goes without saying that Hello Kitty fans will flip for it too.
The premise of the theme park is to complete a mission of sorts, with the grand aim being to upgrade a Robot Kitty Gaming Device Figurine, given to you right at the start. Seems very Mission Impossible-esque – armed with your Figurine and a gaming card, you make your way through the entire park to win points to trade in for accessories – which you can then use to pimp your sci-fi Kitty.

Screen Shot 2016-03-14 at 5.28.58 PM

Personally, it all sounds very exciting, especially since this is the first time Sanrio’s biggest star is being given such a… hard makeover. But that said, knowing us Hello Kitty-obsessed Singaporeans, all this novelty is bound to draw hordes. So here’s a heads up from us – mark the date, queue early, and try not to get too bruised in the stampede.

Zooming Through Life

Soon, the need for a point-and-shoot camera will become obsolete, through DSLRs will forever have a place in society (but it’s really too early to tell). ASUS is gearing up for this potential change in the smartphone / digicam market with their latest offering, the ZenFone Zoom. Essentially a smartphone, they’ve packed this device with stuff that could help you retire your digital camera. It’s the world’s thinnest optical zoom smartphone that’s equipped with a 3X Hoya lens in an innovative 10-element lens arrangement for clarity and close-up shots, with up to 12x total magnification. This aspheric, molded-glass lens system uses  a technique called “D-cut”, and this is paired with dual high-precision stepper motors and arrange in a periscopic arrangement to maximise incoming light, helping you capture only the best of qualities in return. The 13-megapixel PixelMaster rear camera comes with a DSLR-quality optical image stablisation ability that ensures sharper and steadier shots, even at the maximum 3x optical zoom. it can also capture clear shots at very slow shutter speeds. But if in any case you still need a bit of light, the dual-LED Real Tone flash can help you (also, 0.03 seconds laser auto-focus, anyone?). The ultra-thin 5mm aluminium unibody of the ZenFone Zoom sports a burnished leather back that took 201 precision procedures to complete and is loaded with a64-bit quad-core processor, 4GB RAM and ultra-fast 60ms touch-response time that’s protected by a super-strong Corning® Gorilla® Glass 4. And with a 3,000mAh battery that will keep you powered throughout the day, who knows, the reality of not needing a camera might be closer than we think.

YSL Beaute's New Touche Eclats Speak Our Mind

Yves Saint Laurent Beauté’s Touche Éclat is the ubiquitous golden pen that has been a mainstay in our makeup pouches for a long time now – and the same goes for women all over the world, apparently, since 1 is sold somewhere in the world every 10 seconds. It’s a product that has achieved a cult enough status that the brand can put out special edition versions over and over again, yet get people to clamour over it every single time. We were there when YSL released the Wild Edition of Holiday 2014, the gold tube all dressed up in leopard prints; as well as for Spring 2015’s Rock Lace, when it got all tough yet pretty in black polka dots with a tulle pattern; and most recently, the Kiss and Love, which seduced us with the red lip prints pattern.
But we have to say Spring 2016’s limited edition speaks to us the most. The Touche Éclat Slogan Edition features three different declarations printed on the tube, to suit different moods and personalities. “All lights on me” for when you want all attention to be on you, because with the Touche Éclat’s highlighting and concealing powers, your makeup is just that on point. And then there’s “No need to sleep”, when you feel brave enough to last through the night, because your Touche Éclat’s close by to keep those panda eyes hidden from the world. But the one we identify most with has to be “I’m not a morning person”, because we really aren’t – but at least the world doesn’t have to suffer our “I’d rather be back in bed” faces, because we have the Touche Éclat as a secret weapon, of course.

ysl slogan

You might be inclined to agree with us that all 3 slogans are relevant to daily life – clever move on YSL’s part, by making us feel like we need to collect them all. Here’s to feeling like death before you have your first cup of coffee in the mornings, yet being able to stay up all night if the occasion calls for it. Whatever it is, as long as we have our Touche Éclat by our side, we’re good.

LISTEN: Gwen Stefani Wants To Be Put Out Of Her Misery

Well, as bitter and bleak as that sounds, it actually isn’t. “Misery” is the title of Gwen Stefani’s new song and opening track for her new LP “This Is What The Truth Feels Like” – her first album in 10 years since her 2006 “The Great Escape” – slated for release on 18 March. This anthemic, upbeat track is definitely about her romance with Blake Shelton, as she pleads for someone to save her from the pain of being away from him (how cute). It doesn’t sound like some sappy pity party for one after her ex-husband allegedly had an affair with their former nanny, Mindy Mann (and that was scary too cause Mindy’s outfits were looking scarily similar to Gwen’s eclectic, unique style). As devastating as the news of this was, Gwen’s probably already made peace with it, releasing the heart-wrenching breakup ballad “Used To Love You”. Looks like “This Is What The Truth Feels Like” is gonna be full of both ups and downs.
Listen to the track on the lyric video here:

5th Quarter: The Most Unusual, And Delicious, Meats We've Tasted

You’d think that, as Asians, we should be accustomed to strange meats, like livers, intestines, and brains — plus, find them delicious, as kway chap lovers would chime. Still, it was a refreshing experience dining at 5th Quarter. The highly-experienced (and award-winning, might I add) Chef Drew Nocente treated us to his culinary creations that involved his expertise with meat curing and grilling. Furthermore, we’re talking about cuts from all parts of the animal — including, yes, the sometimes not-as-popular offcuts like beef tongues and pork tails.
As its name implies, 5th Quarter does refer to those “neglected” parts, now given some good old TLC, and suddenly delicious under the chef’s seasoned hands. Of an Italian-Australian background, his influence in the contemporary menu extends to both traditional curing methods, including smoking, curing and pickling, as well as quality work on the grill.

Chef Selection of Homemade Charcuterie
Now, a visit to 5th Quarter has to include the Chef’s Selection of 5 Types of Charcuterie ($18) — it’s the best, most economical, way to taste a range of meats as the platter includes one Pâté or Terrine, a Rillette, and three types of cured meat that may include salami, lardo (yes, it’s the fat we all hate to love, now cured), pancetta and more. The blend of herbs & spices are on point, and the variety, just within these 5 types of dishes, is incredible.
What’s also interesting is that there isn’t really a “main course” — each dish is served according to the method of cooking, and meant to be shared. These come in different categories like “Salted & Hung”, “Smoked, Brined, Cured” or “Grilled, Seared, Charred”, which makes for a very spoilt-for-choice decisions. There’s even “Roasted & Green”, which is where you can find stuff like Tomato with Burrata & Basil (S$12).
Salt N Pepper Tripe with Caponata Sauce_2 Pork Tail, Confit Lemon and Cucumber
Here’s what we loved: the Salt ‘n’ Pepper Tripe ($12) that sounds deceptively simple, but is something that you can’t wait to pick up your fork for, and later on, pick at, again and again and again. FOMO should definitely apply to this sinful dish, made of ox tripe that’s sous vide and then flash-fried — this ensures that’s packing a whole lot of flavour, though balanced, and crispy on the outside while tender on the inside. None of that strong taste that’s usually associated with the cut. Other options we liked include the Beef Tongue, Onion & Wasabi ($12) that looks just like regular sliced beef, and is just as tender, and the Pork Tail, Confit Lemon & Cucumber ($12).
Pork Belly, Melon and Onion
Wait till you hear about the grilled meats. Two words: Josper grill. That’s like the holy grail of grills, and the dishes include a Short Rib with Carrot & Pomegranate (S$36) with short ribs that has been smoked for 8 hours before a 48-hour sous vide treatment. The rum-cured Pork Belly with Melon & Onion, pictured above, sounds like a strange combi, but like everything at the restaurant, works beautifully. The pork was, naturally, tender and pulled apart nicely and the melon was a welcome addition to what could be a filling dish.
When we visited, the chef had just added several seafood options too, including a Scallop with Vegetables and Citrus, as well as a Mackarel, Gin & Cucumber. Both helped cut through the richness of the meats we had. The scallop dish was generous, and delightfully light, while the Mackarel had that perfect crisp skin that we always look out for, was seasoned well and intense, while perfectly complementing the side of gin.
Chocolate Salami, Salt Caramel Ice Cream
Lastly, to complete the meal. Desserts. But hey, this cheeky one we’re about to recommend looks suspiciously like salami, until you bite into it of course. The Chocolate Salami with Salted Caramel Ice Cream ($16) is a dessert-lover’s dream, rich and sweet and intriguing, and a feast for both the eyes and the palette. We slurped up every but of the ice-cream, and even those cured tomatoes at the side.
If you can’t garner enough people to try the menu though, try their mid-day offerings. The lunch menu actually showcase bi-weekly specials, and highlights from the main menu, for just $10 a plate — a steal, really. Six plates should do for you and a partner.
