Collaborations between two brands aren’t rare anymore – most of the time they come together because they have a lot in common, be it in terms of design ethos, company principles or others. But that can get a little predictable, and not to mention bland, at times.
These two brands however, might seem like they’re worlds apart, but what their partnership has given birth to is a collection of really pretty, quality headphones. Now, we all know how resilient Freitag bags are against wind and rain, seeing how they’re made of old truck tarpaulins that have been retired, cut, washed and lovingly repurposed as material for various bag designs. This Swiss brand has collaborated with German audio company, Sennheiser; a brand that’s at the forefront of shaping the current and future world of audio.
Sennheiser lends its on-ear URBANITE headphones for this collaboration; a model that’s known for its great sound, deep boosted bass and all-round urban style. The super-soft ear pads block out ambient noise so you can fully enjoy your music comfortably, no matter how long you have it on. Freitag then enhances the style of these headphones with an individual, unique piece of recycled truck tarp. And just like the standard URBANITE model, this F703 Sennheiser x Freitag headphones come with stainless steel hinges, aluminium sliders and a removable connecting cable, making it super convenient to store em’ in the case it comes with (also made from the same tarp used for the headband) when you’re not using it.
F703 Sennheiser x Freitag, $326. Available at Actually (orchardgateway #03-18).

6 Liquid Lipsticks You Can Actually Get In Singapore
It’s a shame, really, that liquid lipsticks aren’t a bigger thing here. We attribute it to the whole Western makeup vs. Asian makeup battle – Korean ombre lips and light glosses just sit better over matte lips in this tropical heat! But if you’re getting just a little tired of the same old safe, sheer pinks, take a bold leap onto the matte liquid lipstick bandwagon with these five great starter lippies – that you don’t have to pay international shipping for (sorry Colourpop).
NYX Soft Matte Lip Crème, $13
This baby should need no introduction. The NYX Soft Matte Lip Crèmes have been a hit since their first release, thanks to the light and easy formula that goes on smoothly and dries in a yummy satin-matte finish. If you’re afraid of jumping right into liquid lipstick, these lip crèmes are a friendly first step forward that won’t feel any less comfortable than your regular cream lipsticks. Plus, being named after big cities makes them more fun to purchase too!
Rating: 8/10
Find it at: All Sephora stores or lazada.com.sg
L.A. Girl Matte Pigment Gloss, $17.90
If anything, the word ‘Gloss’ should be a form of reassurance to some of you – even though the lipstick still dries pretty matte. The great thing about liquid lipsticks is that you can build to a darker, more opaque look depending on what you’re comfortable with, which is what makes lighter formulas like the Matte Pigment Gloss a versatile staple to have in your kit.
Rating: 7.5/10
Find it at: Watsons or lazada.com.sg
Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet, $25
Completely matte without being too heavy – what’s not to love? A little pricey, but this French brand has got us head-over-heels in love with its light consistency and hydrating feel.
Rating: 8/10
Find it at: Watsons or watsons.com.sg
NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick, $19
Don’t blame us for deviating back to this brand; NYX really knows how to serve up a good liquid lipstick at affordable prices. The Liquid Suedes are one step up from the Lip Crèmes – a little more matte without compensating on the same moisturising feel. Tip: If you are feeling brave enough for a more matte finish, dust some loose powder over the dried lip to take away any lingering shine!
Rating: 7/10
Find it at: All Sephora stores
theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes, $36.90
If you couldn’t tell, we’re already sold on the packaging. But what we really love about these liquid lippies is the long-lasting matte finish that still feels comfortable to wear after a long day – perfect if you feel like you’re ready for a drier, more precise matte lip.
Rating: 8.5/10
Find it at: SaSa
Sephora Cream Lip Stain, $24
We have a winner! A comfy, mousse-y texture paired with insane pigmentation, this lip stain is what liquid lipstick dreams are made of. We love how the colour goes on so richly and becomes crazy matte almost instantly; and the fact that it doesn’t budge even through meals makes it a godsend. We dare you to devour three greasy burgers with this bad boy on.
Rating: 9/10

PUMA Fenty Trainer by Rihanna
Rihanna has been conquering headlines week after week this month; her collection debut at the New York Fashion Week and the twin videos for her single with Drake, “Work”, being just two of them. This week, she’s unveiled The Trainer under her FENTY label, a sneaker that looks just as bad-ass as the performance it promises to deliver. First seen at her Fenty x Puma FW16 show on 12 February, The Trainer is pretty much a performance trainer fused with a fashion-forward and futuristic flair. This all-new PUMA silhouette is fearless and has massive sex appeal, just like Riri herself. The upper is made from Ariaprene, an advanced form of neoprene for a more secure and breathable fit. Extra levels of support are provided with its exaggerated upwards-extending high tongue and TPU Kurim cage with fully reflective underlay. This extremely flexible pair of kicks features a full-length groove and additional heel thicknesses on medial and lateral sides for quick and dynamic multi-directional movements. Riri really went all out with this shoe, paying as much attention to the unique textures and materials as she did with the fit, technical details and colours. This brand new silhouette will be available in three tonal colourways – black, white and red. There are only 30 pairs available in Singapore, so get yours quick.
PUMA Fenty Trainer by Rihanna, $289. Available exclusively at PUMA VivoCity (#02-15).

Five Trees Make A Forest
It’s back to the classics with watercolour prints by Singaporean artist Donna Ong. Five Trees Make A Forest is a visual exploration of how colonial tropes impact and interact with the production of tropical landscapes – made almost ethereal by Ong’s deft hand. With a focus on colonial paintings and illustrations, the exhibition will feature lithographic (ie. old-school print) reproductions from Ong’s personal collection of antique prints, acquired from her travels; as well as works of Charles Dyce from the NUS Museum’s collection. Keep your eyes peeled for the 35 watercolour paintings, and a 22-page handwritten manuscript –illustrating Dyce’s voyage and residence in Singapore, Malacca, Penang and Batavia during the mid-19th century colonial era. You’ll probably never be able to look at a plant in the same way again.

Vans "Late Night" Pack

This Bestselling Foundation Range Now Has A Cushion
So it seems like there’s a new cushion launching every few weeks, as the Western beauty brands start following their Korean counterparts into getting in on the cushion game in a major way this year. Seriously, though, it feels like every other brand has a new cushion or one coming up these few months – but we’re pretty sure no one’s complaining.
This week’s update is from Estée Lauder, who bring to us a BB Cushion under what else but their Double Wear range, that ol’ reliable longwearing foundation range that has been flying off shelves since 1997. As a BB Cream, expect a sheerer level of coverage, but with all of the staying power that we love the Double Wear for.
We know and love the original Double Wear Stay-In-Place liquid foundation for its matte finish that ensures unsightly mid-day shine doesn’t stand a chance, but note that the BB Cushion variation is decidedly more dewy. The skincare ingredients in the formula work to leave a hydrated, glowing-from-within finish that will make you look perpetually fresh-faced; silk powder and the brand’s pigment technology prime the skin for an even finish, always.
If you’re worried that the lighter coverage won’t do enough to keep the dreaded oil slicks from appearing on your face, rest assured that this cushion fights sebum the all-natural way: with cold water kelp extract, to help balance the skin’s natural oil production and ensure they don’t go into overdrive. Bonus: SPF50/PA+++ protection, which makes this pretty much a Singapore weather necessity.
Estée Lauder Double Wear Cushion BB All Day Wear Liquid Compact SPF50/PA+++, $68. Available at the Estée Lauder Boutique and counters from April. esteelauder.com.sg
Fjällräven Just Released 2 New Backpacks For Spring 2016
If you’re one of the guilty thousands who own a Kånken (pronounced kon-ken, by the way), you’ll be thrilled to know that Swedish brand Fjällräven has released two brand new designs for their Spring/Summer 2016 Collection – just in time for your summer backpacking trip!
No one does daypacks quite like Fjällräven – tastefully combining comfort, carrying capacity, durability, and style, the versatility of the backpacks can take you from hiking in the great outdoors to everyday wear, right here at home. And we’re excited to say that the new Räven and High Coast stay true to that.
Räven is your everyday backpack but better, designed with comfortable padded shoulder straps and made from recycled polyester and organic cotton. Our favourite part – it comes with a separate padded pocket for laptop computers up to 17 inches wide, making it perfect for school. Overall the detailing is minimal, save for the brand’s characteristic arctic fox patch on the side, but it comes in ten unique colours that make choosing one a hella fun process.
And if you’re in the market for something with a little more pizzazz, then the High Coast is just for you. It’s like the Kånken’s suave older brother, with the same familiar carrying handle at the top, but with an all-new drawcord and steel hook design to close the main compartment. What really makes this perfect for light trekking or travelling, though, is the handy detachable chest and waist strap, and the foam frame sheet – after which the bag can be entirely compressed and packed into its own front pocket. Insane.
We can’t wait to see what Fjällräven rolls out next, but for now, there’re these two very practical beauts to get us through the season.
Fjällräven Räven, $109 to $119; High Coast, $159 to $179, available at Actually 277 Orchard Gateway #03-18. fjallraven.com
This 4-in-1 Foundation Is Pretty Much Genius
We previously shared why the L’Oréal Paris True Match Foundation occupies a special place in our lives. There are a few pretty solid reasons why the True Match franchise is the No. 1 foundation range in the world – the quality formulation that blends seamlessly into the skin, wide range of shades, and extremely accessible price point are a few that we can think of, just off the top of our heads.
Besides the iconic liquid foundation, the current True Match range also includes a two-way cake and compact foundation, depending on what floats your boat when it comes to coverage. It’s a range that overall already meets our needs, and we couldn’t think of any improvements that could be made to it. Yet L’Oréal Paris went ahead and came up with a smarter product anyway, in the form of the all-new True Match Genius 4-in-1 Compact Foundation.
The phrase “Compact Foundation” in its name brings to mind your typical powder formula, yet this is not at all your run of the mill pat-and-go compact. What makes the True Match Genius, well, genius, is how it’s a 4-in-1 product: A primer, foundation, concealer and powder all rolled into one handy compact.
How this works is that it has an evolving texture that is made up of a priming gel, a creamy base, and mineral pigments. Put together, this allows the non-comedogenic formula to smooth over the skin’s surface, blend easily, and provide the required coverage without any stickiness.
The unique evolving texture of the True Match Genius 4-in-1 Foundation first smooths out your skin like a priming gel; melts into the skin like a liquid foundation to even out the skin; has a creamy base to provide high coverage like a concealer; and finishes like a powder for a flawlessly natural look in just one stroke.
No wonder the name “Genius”, then, because it sure is one clever way to save several precious minutes in our daily makeup routines. Yet, application is kept thankfully foolproof (ain’t nobody got time for complicated application techniques during bleary-eyed mornings).
Here’s how you do it:
- Start with a clean and well-moisturised face.
- Use the provided sponge applicator to pick up the product, and apply it starting from the forehead, blending it down towards the nose and cheeks. For harder-to-reach areas like under the nose and eyes, the sponge has two smaller-sized corners to ensure an even coverage there.
- Continue to blend downwards, moving towards the upper lip and chin. Ensure you continue to apply the foundation in a downwards motion, to ensure an even finish.
- For areas where more coverage is needed, pick up a small amount with the applicator or your fourth finger and apply in a dabbing motion.
And that’s all to it, really. We’re glad that even when it comes to the smartest products, you don’t have to be a genius to use it well.
L’Oréal Paris True Match Genius 4-in-1 Compact Foundation, $32.90. Available at Watsons, Guardians, Sasa, and selected Fairprice supermarkets and department stores from March. Enjoy $3 off the retail selling price in the month of March! Click here to find your True Match.
How To Do George Town In Half A Day
So our NYLON intern recently took a short trip to Penang, Malaysia, and found herself in the Capital City Georgetown. Here’s how she spent that half a Sunday.
“Looks like a tourist’s dream.” – was the first thing that came to mind when I got out of the car along Lebuh Cintra, in George Town, Penang. I say this with no malice, of course; the tourist in me loves scoping out quaint shophouses and Peranakan style architecture as much as the next sweaty angmoh backpacker. And I suppose I had expected no less from what has become Penang’s most famous street. It’s actually ironic how this was my first time in the heart of George Town, since I was born a Malaysian, and have been coming to Penang every year for Chinese New Year since. But hey! Fresh perspective married with a “local’s” touch can only mean objective advice worth following!
1. Eat (duh)
Address: 45 Lebuh Cintra, 10100 George Town, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia
Opening hours: 6am to 2.30am daily
2. Be A Tourist
Everyone knows Penang is known for their food, but I’m not a foodie, so I dabao-ed carrot cake and moved on with life. Here’s where you should spend the bulk of your day – just walking, particularly along Chulia Street. The streets are plainly beautiful – preserved to a T and filled with street art. It’s the perfect blend of preserved heritage and new-age gentrification, and everything works together to transport you back to colonial days.
3. Street Art Trail
But, obviously you came here because you wanted a pic with those two kids painted on a bicycle attached to the wall – so yes, check out the street art. In all seriousness, though, Ernest Zacharevic’s famous Penang street art murals aren’t the only bit of visual culture around. (Fun fact: he only created them in 2012! And you thought they’d been around forever.) You’ll quickly spot the many iron-wrought fixtures mimicking Malaysian lifestyle, and random pop art wall paintings, whichever direction you stroll.
4. Coconut Ice Cream!!
What! Oh yes! There is pretty authentic coconut ice cream sold right here in George Town, Penang! It’s the perfect treat after your long art trail in the heat, and for only 6RM per cup. I had the one at an unnamed shop along Lebuh Armenian, with the prettiest resort-style décor – and where you can find Zacharevic’s mural “Reaching Up”. I didn’t manage to get a full picture of the mural but I blame my dad, and anyway there’s Google. Alternatively, get your coconut ice cream fix next door at the more famous Mama-Miya Coconut Ice Cream, which even serves it to you in a coconut husk just like they do in Thailand.
5. Kek Lok Si Temple
And that’s how you do it; the best of George Town in half a day (I think).
All The Durian Desserts You'll Go Crazy For
It’s a thorny fruit, the durian, and that’s because it forces everyone to stand at either side — you can’t simply be “okay”, you either hate it so much it causes an actual physical reaction, or you love it so much you’re that person who’s frequently boasting about how many durians your group of friends can eat in a single feasting session. If you’re the latter, then the Goodwood Park Hotel’s Durian Fiesta should come as no surprise to you.
Now in its 33rd year, the fair boasts quality favourites like the Durian Puff, Durian Crepe and D24 Durian Mousse Cake, all made from quality D24 and “Mao Shan Wang” durian varieties, and these will be available from 4 March to 17 July 2016 at the hotel’s Deli. Other than that, there’s a whole slew of new, and innovative, creations to look forward to.
First up, a range of teatime treats that include the Durian Black Sea Salt Caramel Cake ($13/slice, $85/cake), where Hawaiian black sea salt is used to complement the heavy flavours of durian and caramel, as well as the Durian Crunchy Chocolate-Hazelnut Tartlet ($43/6pcs), that has a touch of D24 durian pulp well-balanced against the mix of milk chocolate and roasted nuts. As for the “Mao Shan Wang” Mousse Cake ($62), it’s a luxurious twist on the hotel’s best-selling durian original mousse cake, made of D24 durians instead. Expect this to be richer and creamier, though note that it’s only available from 28 May.
For a new twist on traditional desserts, try the Durian Kueh Lapis ($12/slice, $62/cake) whose classic buttery flavour now comes with pulpy layers of D24 durian mousse in between, great because every bite now comes with interesting textures. There’s also the Durian Pudding topped with Osmanthus Jelly ($6.80) that you can eat right at the hotel’s restaurant, Min Jiang, a light and subtle treat that might please your parents.
And finally, the cute ones you can’t wait to Instagram. The Durian Rainbow Ice Cream Cake ($12/slice, $52/cake) was already a showstopper at least year’s fiesta, so now they’re bringing it back in a larger size, since it’s now 10.5-inch long. Here, vibrant rainbow hues made from sponge hug a core of creamy durian ice cream that has bits of D24 pulp. Then, there are also popsicles in the form of these Mini D24 Durian Ice Cream Bars ($6/bar, $30/box of 6) that are handmade with pure D24 durian pulp, and come in flavours like milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate with rainbow sprinkles.
Goodwood Park Hotel’s Durian Fiesta 2016, order by visiting the Deli from 9am to 9pm daily, call (65) 6730 1786 or send the order form (available at the hotel or at www.goodwoodparkhotel.com) to email: festive@goodwoodparkhotel.com. Takeaway orders can also be placed online at: http://festivepromotions.goodwoodparkhotel.com. The last order date is 13 July 2016 at 12 noon.
Guess Which Hottie Is The Next Big Baywatch Star
Break out the mini fans, ladies! None other than Hollywood hunk Zac Efron was spotted on set for the film reboot of Baywatch, in Boca Raton, Florida, just two days ago. Together with co-star Dwayne Johnson, the High School Musical star sported tight-fitting Under Armour lifeguard gear – no shirtless bods this time, unfortunately, but the two definitely put the ‘bae’ in Baewatch with their signature red (and blue) uniforms.
And it seems with this new project Zac is officially leaving his clean-cut teen heartthrob days behind. No more soppy Nicholas Sparks films or intense drama films – the 29-year old has remodeled himself to follow in the footsteps of household comedians like his Neighbors co-star Seth Rogen, and pretty successfully too.
2014: That Awkward Moment, Neighbors
2014’s That Awkward Moment first saw the start of dear Zac’s transformation into the slightly offensive but still lovable dumb jock-type.
Crass jokes were exchanged, a bit of nudity thrown in for kicks; but the real deal came in with Zac’s frat boy character Teddy Sanders in Neighbors. Let’s just say it’s all been, well, smooth-sailing from there.
2015: We Are Your Friends
2016: Dirty Grandpa
Right now we’re really looking forward to the Neighbors sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (finally, a show that addresses how freakishly alike Zac and Adam DeVine look!) – and these first Baywatch pics are getting us pretty hot and bothered too. We’ll definitely miss the sweet young thing that once melted our hearts with a single puppy dog gaze, but that’s not to say we aren’t eagerly welcoming Zac’s new ripped and brawny f*ckboi funny man figure. Open arms, people, open arms.

Shu Uemura Takes On K-Pop For Spring
Shu Uemura’s artist collaboration collections are always worth getting excited about, and the brand has just announced the latest one for Spring. This just in: Korean fashion designer Kathleen Kye, who’s behind up-and-coming label KYE, has worked with the brand to put a Korean spin on Japanese makeup artistry for the KYE for shu collection.
If there’s anything to know about KYE, it’s that it’s the high street label favoured by all the cool kids in K-Pop. Many of her designs feature her trademark style of illustration, which add an edgy street style aesthetic and make her a perfect candidate for this latest artist collaboration; and on this range of products, you’ll spot 12 different Kye-drawn icons that represent an aspect of Korean culture. There’s the hibiscus, South Korea’s national flower, a coffee cup to represent Seoul’s obsession with coffee (it’s the city with the highest concentration of coffee shops in the world), and an alarm clock displaying 5.10am, the time of the first train of the Seoul metro.
Here’s a look at the collection, which will include 21 makeup products and 3 haircare ones this time round. We can feel our hearts beating extra fast already just by looking at the cheery doodle-covered packaging, and the point makeup that’s made to nail the K-Beauty look – bold brows, coloured liners, and neon lips. And for the first time ever for shu uemura, a cushion blusher. Keep calm, take a deep breath and hold on till April – this is launching exclusively at Sephora ION on 14 April, and will be available at other shu uemura stores from 1 May. It’ll be on shelves only till 31 May 2016, so you’ll have to hurry: these cute products will wait for no woman.
KYE for shu uemura, available at Sephora ION from 14 April to 31 May 2016, and at shu uemura ION Orchard, Bugis Junction, JEM and VivoCity from 1 May to 31 May 2016. shuuemura.com.sg
A Timeline of All The Sideline Drama To #FreeKesha
Over the weekend, news outlets and social media platforms alike exploded with drama and news on #FreeKesha. The 29-year-old singer whose Tik Tok still buzzes in our ears every now and then, had been on a career hiatus for almost three years now – for being involved in a heated lawsuit alleging sexual and emotional abuse by her producer Dr. Luke (Lukasz Gottwald). And last Friday, the New York Supreme Court denied Kesha Rose’s request for a preliminary injunction in the case – essentially ruling that she must, for now, maintain under Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe Records, which is owned by Sony. Of course, the fight is nowhere over, but strangely enough, while Kesha and her lawyers deal with the long road ahead, other famous celebrities have been caught in a dramatic side broil of their own (hintDemihintTaylor). Here’s a comprehensive timeline on what’s been going down.
Friday, 19 Feb 2016
The New York Supreme Court denies Kesha’s request for a preliminary injunction in the lawsuit – which would have allowed her to record songs outside of her contract until the case has been finalised. Instead, Kesha must record six more albums under Kemosabe Records with Dr. Luke. Sony states that Kesha is in fact “free” to record with other producers within the label, but the singer spoke out to rue the hidden consequences of doing so – that Sony would never promote her music under other producers as they do Dr. Luke, who is apparently their biggest investment.
Outraged celebrities and fans alike take to Twitter and other social media to express their support, and madness ensues.
Saturday, 20 Feb 2016
The likes of Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, and Lorde express their support for Kesha’s situation as well.
Sunday, 21 Feb 2016
1. Demi Lovato throws some serious shade – supposedly at Taylor Swift, who, after her feminism-driven acceptance speech at the Grammy’s earlier this month, maintained silence on the topic. Fans (and haters) were quick to notice that her only move on social media was instead to announce the next single of 1989, “New Romantics”.
The shade continues… and all before bedtime.
2. It didn’t take long for Taylor to react – this time, though, not famously with words but with monetary support, donating a whopping US$250, 000 to Kesha “to help with any of her financial needs during this trying time”, a spokesperson for Swift told Billboard.
Monday, 22 Feb 2016
Was Demi satisfied with this charitable act? Apparently not. The plot thickens as Demi lashed out in yet another fit of Twitter angst.
And even took the spat onto a Taylor Swift Fan Instagram page. Yikes!
Tuesday, 23 Feb 2016
And all of a sudden, the storm blows over? Demi posts a public apology on Instagram qualifying her actions and urging the focus back onto the real issue – the injustice towards a female victim of sexual assault.
Plus, Dr. Luke himself breaks his social media silence to personally address the allegations against him.
It isn’t the most convincing of arguments of course, although it does seem to allude a little to Steven Avery’s false arrest on Making A Murderer on Netflix. But honestly, right now, that means nothing.
Wednesday, 24 Feb 2016
It’s a lot of (unnecessary) drama to stomach over four days. But like a true fighter, Kesha’s putting it aside with an Instagram selfie and a tearful thank you to her fans. We can only hope this is the last of petty brawls taking away the real importance of the issue.
I am beyond words in gratitude. thank you is not enough but it is all I have. a million times over and forever thank you. the support I have received has left my face swollen from tears. I love you all so much. ❤️ a statement too large for this format is coming….A photo posted by Kesha (@iiswhoiis) on
Our hearts are with you, Kesha.

The Dark Spot Correcting Treatments That Worked For Us
Be it pimple scars as a result of itchy fingers, or going a few hours too many under the sun without loading up on the SPF, you’ve probably ever wrung your hands over dark spots, and over how to get rid of them before they become a permanent fixture on your face. Whenever these nasties surface on the skin, we’re always on the lookout for the most effective solution to banish them. These are the five that we’ve been able to count on so far to put up a real fight against those spots:
Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solutions Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution
A few drops of this on problem areas daily gave us skin as clear as the solution inside this frills-free glass dropper bottle. Seriously, though, we find some Kiehl’s treatments to be rather potent, and you definitely want something powerful if you want those spots to fade in double-quick time. What gives this solution its powers is the inclusion of Activated C, a Vitamin C derivative that was the newest thing on the market when this product first launched in 2012; and what it does is break up existing clusters of melanin within the skin and prevent new ones from forming. If you’re a fan of this, you’ll want to get your hands on the limited edition 50ml bottle next month (they usually come in 30ml versions).
$90 for 30ml; $120 for 50ml (from March), available at Kiehl’s stores. kiehlstimes.com
Shiseido White Lucent MultiTargeting Spot Corrector
Shiseido’s White Lucent line has often been included in lists of top-performing whitening products. Now that the range has been revamped (read our overview here), it has gotten even better. Firstly, there’s the whole premise of the range – each product has functions inspired by professional whitening treatments – and the idea of “Double Strike Whitening”, which refers to how the formulations work to both correct spots, and resist future ones. The MultiTargeting Spot Corrector is inspired by laser therapy, and targets those scattered, smaller spots that other treatments might miss out. We really like the moisturising emulsion-like consistency of this one, and the light floral scent. By the way, even the fragrance supposedly helps with whitening – it contains rosenium, which has been found to limit melanin production.

SK-II Cellumination Aura Essence
If you’re looking for a solution to pigmentation that also gives an overall radiance boost, it’s found in this little duo-chrome bottle. There’s Pitera in this, of course, but the main brightening functions come from SK-II’s Soft Aura White Cocktail, which helps regulate melanin production at the cellular level. The velvety texture that this essence leaves behind on the skin is lovely as well, and after regular use, we really did notice a lightening of spots. Heads up: if you like this product, look out for an upcoming new whitening range from SK-II, made up of products that are supposedly the more targeted version of this whitening essence.
$199 for 30ml; $299 for 50ml; $397 for 75ml, available at SK-II counters. sk-ii.com.sg
Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector & Optimizer
So what makes this newest edition of Clinique’s Even Better Dark Spot Corrector, well, even better? The difference is the addition of the “Optimizer”, which is a calming formula to soothe skin irritation that might be the cause of dark spots. The Optimizer is made with gyokuro extract, from one of the most expensive types of green tea, and contains high levels of antioxidants to keep dark spots from making a comeback. The Dark Spot Corrector and Optimizer are kept separate in dual chambers within the bottle, but are pumped out in optimal concentrations. We recommend this for use on areas prone to blemishes, to calm the irritated skin there.

Biotherm Liquid White Spot Focus
Another dark spot-killer in a handy dropper bottle is Biotherm’s version from the Liquid White range. Like the rest of the brand’s products, this one relies on the power of the deep sea, in the form of a type of red algae extract that has been found to be effective against visible pigmentation and dark spots. As for the long term, there’s the white lotus extract to target oxidation and dryness, which can be causes of dark spots as well. After a few weeks of applying a few drops on blemish scars, we definitely saw significant fading.

Satisfy Your Late-Night Cravings At Ramen Keisuke Lobster King
One word: intense. That’s what we’d use to describe the ramen at Ramen Keisuke Lobster King, who are introducing the first-ever lobster stock ramen to our local tastebuds. It’s also a word that’s apt for the expansion of the Keisuke group, now at its 10th outlet, as chef Keisuke Takeda’s always looking out for new ways to surprise us.
Now, his knack for creative takes on traditional ramen dining takes inspiration from French cuisine, more specifically, the lobster bisque — which then translates to the rich broth we tried at the restaurant. In total, there are four different kinds of lobster broth ramen you can hit up at the diner. What’s even smarter is that the 62-seater outlet, located at the heart of Clarke Quay’s nightspots, is open till late at night, from 6pm till 5am, just in case you need a hearty meal before or after you’ve downed a drink (or ten).
Here’s what we tried.
1. Lobster Broth Ramen with Clear Soup, $13.90
At first bite, you’ll be hit with an intense seafood aroma, more satisfying and addictive than your regular ramen broth. It’s worth noting that to get that flavour, the chef uses French rock lobsters specially imported from France, whose shells are first pan-fried, crushed into fine bits, then simmered for at least 6 hours with a special blend of herbs. We’d say that it’s worth all that effort because the taste is distinct — and as full as we were, we can’t help but scarf down the entire bowl of springy noodles and soup. If you’re a greedy but lighter eater, the clear soup is a good option because the flavour’s all intact, but doesn’t fill you up as fast. Plus, the chef gets it right with a nice balance of flavours, the spectrum of rich, sweet, salty and light.
2. Lobster Broth Ramen with Rich Creamy Soup, $14.90
You get the feeling that you’re slurping down lobster bisque with this one — it’s definitely richer and creamier, as its name suggests, and requires an additional 4-6 hours of brewing in the kitchen. All this culminates in a soup that’s packing with flavour, but tends to be slightly too filling halfway into the meal. Go at this if you’re hungry though, and you’d be superbly pleased. Like all the other ramen bowls, this comes with tender pork belly and chicken char siew and crunchy bamboo shoots, though you can customise your own by adding seaweed or more pork belly slices.
3. Stir-Fried Mushrooms with Garlic Butter, $8.80
Yeah, we could have gone with more enticing side dish options like the gyozas (which seemed to be really popular at most of the tables), but we thought of ordering a lighter something instead. Don’t worry though, this doesn’t skimp on taste. The mushrooms were prepared nice and warm, with a garlic butter sauce that we heard had a little bit of lard in it, and was so delicious that we’d have this over plain rice.
4. The other options — Miso Lobster Broth Ramen, $14.90; Spicy Miso Lobster Broth Ramen
