The Two Of Us: Calvin Klein's Back For Another Unisex Scent

If there’s anything Ruby Rose, Agyness Deyn, even David Bowie, have in common, it’s this – an androgynous factor that, while revered on fashion runways, is oddly missing in the fragrances department where his and hers scents are still the norm. Unless it’s Calvin Klein. You know all about their first unisex scent, ck one, and still, the brand is paving the way forward with their latest gender-free fragrance, the ck2.
Label anything “androgynous” or “unisex” these days, and immediately, there’s a certain connotation. You’re strong. You’re unconventional. Daring and empowered. And that’s exactly what we feel about this fragrance. Why choose when you can have the best of both worlds? More than that though, this thrilling one caters to the free-spirited young and youthful, while emphasising the beauty of a shared connection. Think about it. Sharing the scent with your significant other or BFF is like a subtle, subliminal version of a promise ring or friendship bracelet – it draws both your lives together, maybe even weaves your souls into a tapestry of shared experiences. But really, nothing says “power couple” more than a whiff of matching scents. Kimye had better watch out.
ck2

  • A thrilling open – of an unexpected spicy wasabi, blended with mandarin and violet leaf
  • Young at heart – fresh florals form a nice contrast alongside urban elements of wet cobblestones and orris concrete
  • Ending notes – includes vetiver, creamy sandalwood and sensual musks

ck2 EDT, $60 for 30ml, $80 for 50ml and $106 for 100ml. Available at major departmental stores, including Takashimaya Orchard, TANGS at Tang Plaza, Robinsons The Heeren, as well as Sephora stores. calvinklein.com

Why This Beauty Mist Is Actually Good For You

Face mists have got a bad rep, which is something we found out about only years after happily spritzing our faces with pure mineral water. It’s what our moms would do too! Word is, when it’s just water and no other hydrating ingredients to bind it to our skin, the water just evaporates, leaving your face way drier than before.
We’re happy to report that the Shiseido Ibuki Quick Fix Mist isn’t like that at all. Good to know: it comes in the form of a refreshing gel that sprays as a cooling mist. And because it contains more skincare ingredients than water, it’s incredibly nourishing for your skin. There you go, the perfect skin refresher for your midday skin woes!
And speaking of quick fixes, here’s another new one from the Shiseido Ibuki range: the Beauty Sleeping Mask. Both these skincare products work day and night to complement our busy lifestyles — basically, if you feel like your skin’s looking dull and lifeless after a combination of work, stress, a roaring social life, and then a lack of proper sleep, we recommend the following routine.

16SS_SIB_Photo15 16SS_SIB_Photo10

If you’re heading out in the day, take the Quick Fix Mist along with you — on a weekday, you’ll find that a post-lunch spritz works wonders for a bouncy complexion, especially in an air-conditioned environment, while it’s a godsend on weekends too because the mist both moisturises and controls overly-shiny skin.
As for the Beauty Sleeping Mask, there’s a reason why it belongs to your bedside table. It works through the night to help your skin recharge from the stresses of the day, giving you the look of well-rested, glowing skin even if you only really had less than eight hours of shut-eye.

Shiseido Ibuki Quick Fix Mist
We like that the mist is all about balancing your skin, which means controlling shine and replenishing your skin with moisture at the same time; sebum-absorbing polymers soak up oil, while moisturising ingredients are delivered deep, held in place by a micro-jelly veil over your skin so it can stay hydrated for longer. For the ingredients, we’re talking the moisturising Phyto Target Complex, an Ibuki range signature, and a herbal Marjoram Extract that targets dehydration. We’ve been using it daily, throughout the day, and it works well over makeup, which is always a huge plus. The bottle’s also small enough to stow in your bag, in case you need a midday perk-me-up that’s better than coffee.

Shiseido Ibuki Beauty Sleeping Mask
Next up, this mask ensures radiant skin even if you haven’t really had your magical eight hours of sleep. The leave-on gel contains tiny capsules that melt quickly when applied, and these contain vitamin C and E, as well as Phytoplankton Extract, which promotes ATP production that helps in cell regeneration. Take it from a microalgae that’s known to thrive in the harsh Sahara Desert. We like to slather it on just before going to bed, and we find that it goes on light, absorbs quickly so our skin’s immediately plump, while smelling divine — the best kind of bedside companion, really.

As such, visitors can look forward to physically navigating a replica of Loh’s actual workspace, complete with past works and personal beloved collectibles – to better understand the creative process and witness an artist at work. Look out for Loh’s signature pop-art touches, that can be found translated into fashion in the form of sneakers, apparel, and toys. Go Denim On More Denim With This Roger Vivier x Camille Seydoux Collection

You’ve heard of the denim-on-denim look — a dress-down look that still makes you look extra put-together because of how chic the whole ensemble is. The whole looking like you don’t care when you actually do but no one can tell thing. So, stretch your imagination a little because now it’s possible to go denim-on-denim-on-denim, with this Roger Vivier capsule collection.
Collaborating with fashion icon and celebrity stylist Camille Seydoux, the brand has dressed up their Prismick pieces entirely in denim. It’s a youthful look that’s designed for “urban nonchalance”, by Seydoux, who says this about the collection, “Denim can be worn with everything and can tone down an outfit. This capsule collection shakes up the look. ” Agreed.

ROGER VIVIER 13_10_20157025  ROGER VIVIER 13_10_20156930

“We decided that my collection would be dedicated to the Prismick line created in 2012, which is one of my favourites. I began by attentively exploring my own Prismick bag, which is in a melting fade of black and grey. I wanted to work on the idea of facets that make up grades of shading. I looked through the Maison’s archives and then I thought of denim. It’s a fabric that naturally burnishes. Denim is both classic and modern, and significant detail, is very resistant.”
L – R: Prismick Shoulder Small Jeans, $3,890; Bootie Prismick Chunky Tromp, $1,960; Prismick Aumoniere Jeans, $2,300; Sandal Prismick Plateau Jeans, $1,370
There are four pieces in this modern-day wardrobe, namely, a shoulder bag, ankle boots, a mini-evening bag and platform sandals, and all of these ensure you look chic and casual, without trying too hard.

Hangover Makeup Hacks

Even (fake) Ke$ha has to deal with post-party complexion woes after a fun night out. But don’t let the fear of a hangover face put you off partying – for anyone who’s ever had to deal with the shame of swollen under eyes and sallow skin, here are five easy hacks to keep you looking fresh and fierce after a night of sin. And just in time for TGIF too.

1. BB/CC Cream (vs. Foundation)

SK-II Auractivator CC Cream, $109

We recommend: SK-II Auractivator CC, $109, available at SK-II counters
First things first, moisturise. Funny how a whole night of liquids and drinking still leaves you dehydrated, huh. Toss your usual full coverage foundation and opt for a lighter BB or CC cream instead – your focus should be injecting moisture back into your dehydrated skin; thick foundation will only look cakey and further dry out your skin.

2. Red Lipstick Under Your Eyes
L'Oreal Paris Color Riche Star Collection Lipstick in Blake Lively's Pure Scarleto CSR6, $21.90

We recommend: L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Star Collection Lipstick in Blake Lively’s Pure Scarleto CSR6, $21, available at Watsons and Guardian
Are you crazy, you yell, my eyes are red and puffy enough as they are! Trust us when we say this hack is more fact than makeup magic, because “priming” your under eyes with red lipstick before concealer actually helps get rid of pesky dark circles. It all comes down to colour correcting – neutralising the greenish tones of your under eyes with red reduces the darkness, and makes for a lighter, smoother base palette to layer your concealer over. Word of caution, though, that lipstick is often formulated to be rougher than what’s appropriate for your delicate under eye area, so try not to use this on a regular basis! Also, it unfortunately does nothing for eyebags – sleep does.

3. Mattify Alcohol Spots
NUDESTIX Concealer Pencil, $34

We recommend: NUDESTIX Concealer Pencil, $34, available at Sephora
The key here is to stay matte – as if that weren’t already a daily challenge. When concealing your alcohol-induced breakouts, steer away from liquid concealer, which will only make your spots more dewey and draw attention to them. Instead, try a stick or pencil concealer that instantly reduces shine of your pimples. If you want something a little more moisturising, give cream concealer a shot, but don’t be too heavy-handed with your coverage.

4. Nude/White Eyeliner For Your Waterline
Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Inner Rim Brightener - Nude, $28  Marc Jacobs Beauty Fineliner Ultra-Skinny Gel Eye Crayon in (Big)Eyes!, $35

We recommend:  Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Inner Rim Brightener in Nude, $28, or Marc Jacobs Beauty Fineliner Ultra-Skinny Gel Eye Crayon in (Big) Eyes, $35, available at Sephora
Ah, the classic ‘Make your eyes look bigger’ hack. Fortunately, this handy trick of tightlining your waterline with nude or white eyeliner helps to reduce redness from your eyes as well. The eyeliner creates the illusion of extending your eye whites to give you larger, more awake looking eyes. Just be careful not to poke yourself in the eye and worsen the redness.

5. Coral Blush
M.A.C Year Of The Monkey Powder Blush in Modern Mandarin, $39

We recommend: M.A.C. Year Of The Monkey Powder Blush in Modern Mandarin, $39, available at all M.A.C stores and counters
The beauty of basic colour correction steps in to save our sallow hungover skin again! If the BB/CC cream doesn’t provide sufficient coverage for your sickly looking complexion (damn you, alcohol), a coral blush over your regular pink blush will take care of that. The orangey tones in coral blushes help negate the greenish-grey undertones in your skin, so you can walk out of the house looking like you didn’t just step off the set of The Walking Dead.
Here’s to living young, wild, and free!

The One Thing We Didn't Like About Taylor Swift's Grammy Acceptance Speech

Seriously, this is getting old.
And we’re not talking about T Swizzle’s questionable middle-aged bob she sported at the Grammys 2016 yesterday night. It was a lucky night for the blonde pop star, who bagged Best Music Video (Bad Blood), Best Pop Vocal Album (1989), and Album of the Year (1989). You’d think this glorious win would be enough to keep her satisfied and away from all antagonism, but Taylor, who seems to be permanently caught in tabloid controversy, took the opportunity to get her own back at Kanye West.
Leaving off from Kanye’s epic 2009 VMA stage invasion, he dealt Taylor yet another low blow with his single “Famous”, which featured him explicitly rapping: “For all my Southside niggas that know me best / I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous / God damn / I made that bitch famous.” Subtle. And thus, during her emotionally-charged acceptance speech for Album of the Year, she fired back:

“As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice, I wanna say to all the young women out there: there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success, or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame, but if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you’ll know that it was you and the people who love you that put you there, and that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”

And of course, Taylor has every right to take offence at such derogatory lyrics. But the one thing we have an issue with here stems from something far more deep-seated than this 7-year feud. Regrettably, it’s her unabashed acknowledgement that she’s a role model to “all the young women out there” for being an underdog who struggled to the top – when that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Surprise surprise – it’s a lesser known fact to many that Taylor Swift was in fact not a rags-to-riches story. Yes she grew up on a farm – but a Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania, with parents working comfortably in finance. The economic privilege aside, the story goes that Taylor’s parents often drove her around Nashville to try and submit karaoke demo tapes. When she failed to score a record deal, they simply relocated to banking company’s Merrill Lynch’s Nashville office, for a closer shot at breaking into the country music scene. Soon after, Taylor successfully signed with Big Machine Records – though only after her father bought shares with the company.

via GIPHY

To deny that Taylor has come so far without hard work of her own, talent in her songwriting, and an impressive knack for securing mass appeal, would be immature. And at *27, it’s more than admirable. But perhaps it’s this almost too-easy rise to fame that has clouded her roots, and forced her into failing to acknowledge that she started with a generous leg-up on the privilege stepladder. And that’s what’s problematic. Celebrity or not, it’s uncomfortable to hear such strongly worded advice about success and reaching your goals, from someone who wholeheartedly believes she is an ideal role model qualified to give it. And no, the subtle #humblebrag about being the first woman to win Album of the Year twice doesn’t give you that qualification.
We won’t go into how typical Taylor it is to make every little jibe about herself (throwback to her white feminist tweet-off with Nicki Minaj); nor the irony of someone who owes so much of her fame to taking direct hits at exes in her lyrics, taking such personal offence at one misogynistic hit back. (Apparently, in the name of feminism, and because it wasn’t framed in a bubblegum pop-y tune, it’s not.) We will, however, stand our ground in saying that 2015’s pop princess can hardly be lauded for handling the dispute with elegance and grace – not when she dishes out spiteful “feminist” advice coming from a place of privilege. Kanye certainly didn’t make her famous, but he did help illuminate that there’s always a more gracious (or humorous) way to deal with celeb drama. Sorry Taylor, Imma let you finish, but… nah, maybe not.

Here Are The Affordable Makeup Brushes That Actually Work

Building your collection of makeup brushes doesn’t have to break the bank. While it’s the makeup artist brands such as M.A.C and shu uemura that we’d still turn to for the widest range of brushes and top-quality hairs, we’ve also learnt along the way that the lower-priced brands can do the job pretty well, too. Here are the options that can help save you quite a few dollars – so you can spend more on makeup, of course.

LANEIGE

laneige

We got real excited when Laneige launched these late last year, especially because the brand said they were designed for Asian women (i.e. smaller eye brushes to apply eyeshadow more precisely, for example). The range of 15 brushes feature mostly face and eye brushes, with a few duo-fibre options for a better finish.
From $12 for a concealer brush to $36 for a duo-fibre face brush, available at LANEIGE boutiques.

ZOEVA
zoeva

This set might be named the Rose Golden Luxury Set Volume 2, but when it goes for under $130 for three face brushes and five eye brushes, all dressed up in a reflective rose gold, it’s closer to being a steal. And you get a nice pouch to store it all to boot. We’re particularly keen on the large buffing brush, a wonderfully soft and fluffy way to get your powder to go on flawlessly.
$121.99, available on sephora.sg.

Sephora
sephora

Sephora has always had a mind-boggling range of makeup brushes that cater to every inch of your face, but this set of latest additions manages to seriously impress us with how affordable they are, despite being the kind of brushes that are usually used by the pros. There’s the Airbrush Blender Brush to give high-definition coverage, and the Contour Kabuki Brush that works for bronzers, illuminators and foundations and helps sculpt the face.
From $24 for a Brow Definition Set to $50 for a Pro Airbrush Blender Brush, available at Sephora from 31 March 2016.

Ecotools
ecotools

Here are brushes for a good cause: Ecotools makes their brushes using recycled aluminium and renewable bamboo, all cruelty-free. And.. they’re actually good (we’ve seen many a glowing review online). What we also like is that they can be easily found in the drugstores, and amassing a whole collection of face and eye staples is gentle on the wallet.
From $6.90 for an Eyeliner Brush to $30.85 for a 6-piece Brush Set, available at Watsons and Guardian.

Real Techniques
real techniques

When it comes to affordable, quality brushes, Real Techniques is probably the brand that comes to mind. You can get an entire starter set for the face or eyes at under $50, and it’s true that the brushes come pretty close to their more expensive, professional-level counterparts: the hairs are delightfully soft, and they blend smoothly enough.
From $15 for a Fine Liner Brush to $45 for a Duo-Fibre Collection, available at Watsons and Guardian.

Rihanna Makes Sultry Streetwear A Thing With Her Fenty x Puma Collection

So, now that the Yeezy Season 3 show is done and dusted, here’s something else you need to gush about — RiRi’s runway debut at New York Fashion Week. Between the two musician-turned-fashion-designers, we’re not ashamed to say that we were way more excited about this one, considering that, well, Rihanna does have a way more creative wardrobe.
Yes, there was an abundance of oversized sweatshirts, but the models wear these with a killer sneaker-stilettos combo, taking streetwear from pedestrian to something way, way sexier. The Fenty x Puma FW16 show is also her label’s first catwalk collaboration with Puma, and as creative director, Rihanna pulled out all the stops, with stunning looks, and an equally impressive set design of an arctic high fashion forest. That means, it’s clearly ironic that among the bare, wintry trees, snowy hairdos, and icy looks on the models’ faces, each look came out strong, fiery and blazing hot. Way to up the Anti.

Most of them weren’t afraid to show plenty of skin — even dramatically oversized hoodies, draped to the side and worn on its own. Sheer mesh tees were especially gratuitous, it wasn’t hard to spy some underboob, while pants seem to have gotten lost along the way, though very deliberately of course. It was basically slouchy, comfy streetwear turned sexy.

Naturally, Rihanna’s famous friends and supporters came out in full force too. Check out the front row: Chris Rock, Wale, Jeremy Scott, Naomi Campbell, Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele and Anna Wintour. Then, before you know it, the Hadid sisters came strutting down the runway, in typical stunning fashion. Gigi Hadid dropped her sunshine-girl smile for a smouldering black lippie and an oversized coat that was artfully draped across her slender frame. As for Bella Hadid, we’re already used to her darker vibes, so her in this lace-up number, with a cutout that went down the entire left side of her body, seemed particularly fitting.

Yet, with all the goth elements and witchy vibes, thanks to the slicked-back hair, dark lips and accessories, the sportswear theme still prevailed. Zippers, baggy silhouettes and sports bras were present throughout the entirely monochrome collection. And for once, despite the lack of colour, we weren’t bored at all. Now, time to have Anti on loop as we wait for the collection to drop in stores.

WATCH: The 30-Second Star Wars: Episode VIII Video That Will Get You Excited All Over Again

The production announcement video begins with a wide shot of the island where Star Wars: The Force Awakens ended. Who could forget that dramatic scene with Rey and Luke Skywalker, who was pretty much absent throughout the entire film? What seems like an outtake or an alternative shot of the scene quickly turns out to be Rian Johnson exclaiming, “Cut! Beautiful. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Episode 8!”
Rian Johnson, the man behind Brick, The Brothers Bloom, Looper and three episodes of Breaking Bad, takes the lead for the upcoming untitled Star Wars film. He’ll be directing the film from a screenplay also written by himself, which follows the now force-sensitive Rey deeper into her epic journey with Finn, Poe, and Luke Skywalker. Principal photography has officially begun at Pinewood Studios in London on 15 February this year.
While the video doesn’t show any footage of what’s to come, we do see a little bit more of Luke Skywalker, played by Mark Hamill. But what we do know is that besides the returning cast members from Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie and Andy Serkis – Star Wars: Episode VIII will also be welcoming new cast members, Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro, Academy Award nominee Laura Dern and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran. Also, it has been rumoured that Benicio will be assuming the role of a new antagonist for the film, though it’s still unclear whether or not he’ll be a Sith (fans are desperately hoping he will be). And if the cast and crew and keep mum about the film like they did for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, then I guess we’ll be left hanging for a long while.
We were left with so many questions at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and now we’ve all burdened ourselves with even more. The speculation has already begun, and so has the wait, as Star Wars: Episode VIII will only be released on 14 December 2017. At least we have the spinoff film Rogue One to look forward to this year.

The Contouring Tools For Every Skill Level

When it comes to contouring, it can get real crazy. Case in point:

This is  known as “clown contouring”, first started by beauty vlogger BellaDeLune (the one in the above Instagram video). She might have first put this out there to get back against her haters who called her a clown because of the makeup she wore, but it soon took Instagram by storm – people actually began to put on this crazy amount of makeup on their faces, to achieve a Kim Kardashian-level contour.
It might all have started from Kim K, but contouring became a serious trend in the past couple of years, and we couldn’t seem to get away with scrolling past a contouring selfie on Instagram, or a video tutorial on YouTube. But contouring might get kind of crazy on the Internet – it’s just not practical to put that much makeup on your face each time you want to add some extra definition to your facial contours – but we like to take these posts as just a little occasional inspiration for picking up our oft-neglected bronzer and highlighter.
Don’t be scared off by these clown contouring examples, though. We promise it doesn’t have to be a requisite skill to working some contouring into your daily makeup routine. Whether you’re a complete newbie, taking your first tentative step into the world of bronzers and highlighters, or one of these Instagram experts who already has clown contouring down pat, we have product recommendations for all skill levels. Time to make those cheekbones pop, girl.

Skill level: So what’s the difference between bronzer and highlighter? #clueless

NYX Sculpt & Highlight Face Duo
$20, Sephora
Simple: The sculpting shade is the darker one, and you highlight with the lighter one. And they’ve already matched both shades for you, so you just have to choose from one of the three combinations based on your skin tone. Just swipe the respective colours on with the doe foot applicator, and use fingers to blend.

NUDESTIX Sculpting Pencil
$34, Sephora
If you prefer a less liquid formula, NUDESTIX’s double-ended contouring pencils are also pretty foolproof. These pencils still go on creamy, and have a matte finish – just draw onto the face, then use your fingers to smudge.

Skill level: I’m no Kim K, but I know my way around a contouring brush… mostly.

M.A.C Zac Posen Powder Blush (Duo) and 168 Large Angle Contour Brush
$52 and $69, M.A.C Sephora ION, Ngee Ann City, Robinsons the Heeren and TANGS at Tang Plaza from February 25
The darker shade of the blush duo is a matte natural brown that you can brush under the cheekbones and the jawline; after, the pearlised pink coral can go on the cheeks. Use an angled brush like this one to achieve a natural finish.

Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate in SS16
$108, Tom Ford counters
This limited edition shade features a shading colour called “Lavish Pink”, with pink undertones to add some extra luminescence to the skin. The formula is super sheer, so you need to know how to layer it if you want more obvious definition; but put it on the right spots, and your skin will catch the light in all the correct places.

Skill level: Please, I can do a whole clown contouring tutorial.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpting Palette
$80, Sephora
This one is definitely professional level – you’ll need to know what you’re doing to navigate the four shades here. There’s one for highlighting, one for contouring, one for shimmer and one for colour – MAKE UP FOR EVER recommends using their #106 and #408 brushes.

Tarte Tarteist Contour Palette
$69, Sephora from 3 March
Okay, this palette takes it up a notch – six colours which the brand promises will make you lose “5 pounds in 5 minutes”. It helps that the shades are numbered, plus there’s a visual guide included to teach you how to use it. Still, we wouldn’t recommend using this unless you’re sure about where you’re putting all these colours, because it sure requires some skilful blending.

7 Lip Kit by Kylie Dupes

No, we didn’t actually manage to get our hands on the Lip Kits (sigh), but to make up for the little hole in our heart we put together a handy list of dupes instead – so you can get the same look of Kylie’s luscious lips, without having to bid $1000 on eBay.

Candy K

Dupe: Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Pure Hollywood

candyK   pure_hollywood_off_copyABH pure hollywood

Undoubtedly the Kylie of all the lip kits, this pale nude pink with brown undertones leans closest to Kylie’s signature nude brown. We recommend the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Pure Hollywood – the pale mauve nude is a dead ringer for Kylie’s MLBB look.

Dolce K

Dupe: Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipstick in Beeper

dolceK   Ultra-Matte-Beeper Beeper1

Unfortunately, LA-based Colourpop only ships to the U.S., although that hasn’t stopped fans here in Singapore from sourcing them off eBay or Carousell (us included). Tried and tested, the Ultra Matte dries in an almost identical finish to the couture-esque perfect pout, and Beeper wins critics’ consensus for Dolce K’s dusty rose brown dupe. If you manage to get your hands on one, good on you.

True Brown K

Dupe: Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Dominatrix

truebrownK      domsm_1024x1024

This rich chocolatey brown is another Kylie classic – but King of liquid lipsticks Jeffree Star reigned first with Dominatrix, a dark chocolate brown with maroon tones matching those of True Brown K. YouTubers and beauty blogs alike swear by it, and so do we.

Posie K

Dupes: Milani Liquid Lipstick in Lust / NYX Soft Matte Lip Crème in Prague

The first of Kylie’s exclusive Valentine’s Day collection, Posie K swatches in a beautiful magenta pink, but turns almost neon on the lips. Jenner/Kardashian magic? Probably. Either way, it made for a tough call between hordes of plummy liquid lipsticks out on the market that are just as pretty. In the end, we narrowed it down to Milani’s Lust and all-time favourite NYX’s soft matte lip creme in Prague. The former leans to a more wearable, everyday mauve; Prague adds a little excitement with the pop of vibrancy – Posie K unfortunately sits smugly in the middle.

Koko K

Dupe: OFRA Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Laguna Beach

kokoK Screen Shot 2016-02-16 at 12.45.06 PM

Koko K is one of those nudes that bears a frustrating resemblance to every other nude on the market, yet proves you wrong when swatched alongside shades you were positive could pass as dupes. At first glance it’ll even look similar to Candy K – though more obviously pink. Luckily, we unearthed an almost perfect dupe in OFRA’s Laguna.

Mary Jo K

Dupe: NYX Liquid Suede in Kitten Heels

maryjoK Screen Shot 2016-02-16 at 12.45.57 PM Screen Shot 2016-02-16 at 12.46.08 PM

Ah, the classic red – how could Kylie’s lip kits not include one? Mary Jo K, named after Kylie’s grandmother, is a bright blue red with a hint of fuchsia. Every lipstick junkie will know that not all reds were created equal; we’d love to add this baby to our own collection of reds (all different, we swear), but since we can’t, we’ll be adding NYX’s Liquid Suede instead. And at almost 1/4 the price too.

8 Korean BBQ, And Their 8-Piece Mangalitza Pork Belly Set

We like our meat. Oh, yes we do, and we like it better over a BBQ grill. Which is why this modern Korean BBQ restaurant is perfect — 8 Korean BBQ takes pride in its meat, and we’re talking about the highlight of the place, the mangalitza pork belly. Considered a premium cut, like the Kobe beef equivalent of pork, these are imported from Hungary, and boast a silky smooth texture, with unsaturated fats that’re good for your body. Fatty or not, you won’t be able to resist.

8COLOURS2 8COLOURSSET

Located at The Central at Clarke Quay, the industrial-looking restaurant also serves only USDA Prime and Kagoshima Wagyu, which means, every meat in their menu has to have “melt-in-your-mouth” as the criteria. And you needn’t worry about the smell of smoke in your hair, or if you’re unsure how “done” your meat has to be — atop the grill, a device directs the smoke away from you, while the well-trained waiters prepare the food for you at your table, so you can simply sit back and enjoy it later.
Here’s what we tried:

8 Colour Set Version 2.0, $98 — good for 3 – 4 pax
Yes, there’s a clear reason why this is called the “8 Colour Set”, and that’s because eight thick, juicy strips of Mangalitza pork belly are presented in eight different types of seasonings, including red pepper paste (gochujang, for Korean food lovers), wine, plum and yucha. It helps that everything looks pretty and rolled up in a plate when served — Insta-worthy, much? You can’t really go wrong with garlic and honey ginger, really, and we’re glad to say that each piece of meat was tender and packed plenty of flavours, all subtly different as you go from the lighter to the heavier ones. It’s great if you really like a particular meat, but still want variety, in case, you tend to feel full. Plus, the set comes served with a seafood bean paste stew too.
Flavours: Original, Garlic, Red Pepper Paste, Yucha, Plum, Blackberry, Honey Ginger, Kalbi

Kimcheese Fried Rice, $20 — good for 2 – 3 pax
For a perfect staple that goes along with all those rich meat, try this. We’ll say that the familiar sweet-and-sour taste of Kimchi Fried Rice helps break up the intense flavours of the meat, but what really sets this apart is the addition of stretchy mozzarella cheese, an egg, bonito flakes and Mangalitza bits, all served in a sizzling hot plate. Mix it up and you’re ready to go.

Bibimbap Bingsu, $28 — good for 3 – 4 pax
It doesn’t seem like much, but trust us, you’ll be full after all the meat and carbs… except, somehow not full enough to say no to this dessert. To end the meal, go for the popular Korean desert, with finely-shaved milk ice topped with seasonal fruit, crushed oreo, granola, and red beans. A peach and whipped cream forms the egg-like centre. The bingsu’s milk ice is a homemade recipe, so it especially feels like snow on your tongue.
