Samsung Singapore introduces uniquely local covers for your Galaxy Z foldables

Since last year, Samsung Singapore has been working with local artists and illustrators to create Singapore-exclusive case designs to personalise your Samsung experience from its software to its hardware. To date, the tech giant has worked with 28 illustrators with over 45 designs developed over the last two years.

This year, as part of the Samsung Galaxy Z Series launch, Samsung Singapore has worked with eight Gen Z illustrators for the Samsung x You: Reimagine Everyday Moments Collection where they showcased their creativity in either a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 Flipsuit Card experience, or a design for the Samsung x CASETiFY Galaxy Z Series collection.

REIMAGINE EVERYDAY MOMENTS FLIPSUIT CARD COLLECTION

The Flipsuit Card collection features six Galaxy Z Flip6 Flipsuit Card designs created by five local illustrators — Arissa Rashid, Faith Cheong, Jasmine Tan, Shana Wee, and Tan Jia Min — who were inspired by familiar local snacks, as well as moments they’ve observed during long commutes in the city.

First introduced with the Galaxy Z Flip5, the Flipsuit Case had been designed with the intent for customisation; making it easy for you to switch out the Flipsuit cards anytime. Powered by NFC, the card brings your Galaxy Z Flip Cover Screen to life with animated wallpapers that match your card design.

Here’s a closer look at the card designs.

Gucci unveils new campaign for its Blondie bag in an ode to London

Captured by award-winning photographer and filmmaker Nan Goldin, Gucci has unveiled its all-new campaign “We Will Always Have London” to present the Gucci Blondie bag and Cruise 2025 collection in an ode to the timeless allure of London and the House’s deep connection to the city.

[CLICK ON THE IMAGES FOR MORE. IMAGES COURTESY OF GUCCI.]

Created by Creative Director Sabato De Sarno, the campaign stars cultural icon and the co-founder of Blondie Debbie Henry alongside performing artist, cellist and composer, Kelsey Lu, in a voyage through various dimensions of stylistic expression in London — an eternal muse for music, art, and culture, and where the Cruise 2025 collection made its debut.

Joining Debbie and Kelsey in the campaign are Alaato Jazyper, the face of Gucci’s Fall Winter 2024 campaign, and Yanan Wan, who opened the Cruise 2025 runway at Tate Modern.

The campaign follows them through various locations in the city under a mysterious nighttime ambiance, and features moments in London’s iconic cabs and atmospheric spaces.

At the heart of the campaign is the reimagined Gucci Blondie bag which was first introduced in the early 1970s with its signature rounded emblem, crafted from leather or enamel.

Check Out The Newest Version of Taylor Swift’s Favourite Bag From Under $200

Since going viral after it was spotted on mega star Taylor Swift’s shoulder, AUPEN has given their IT bag, the Nirvana, a summer makeover, turning it into yet another statement-making piece; this time in a crochet reiteration.

If you didn’t already know, AUPEN first catapulted to the international spotlight when fans spotted the Nirvana Noir bag clasped in the fingers of Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Lucy Hale, Haley Bieber, and even Emily Blunt.

Following their shot to fame, AUPEN has partnered with LVMH Meitiers d’Art, an initiative under LVMH that supports artisan and French manufacturing facilities, to get access to the best-in-class French luxury manufacturers to elevate and expand production while staying true to its DNA.

AUPEN has also begun development with Tanneries Roux, the oldest French tannery, and metal hardware producer Jade Group, which means we can now get an Aupen that’s made with the same quality of materials and craftsmanship as Hermès, Louis Vuitton and Chanel — all brands these manufacturers work with.

Furthermore, as part of the brand’s ethos, the calfskin leather used has been responsibly sourced and certified through the Leather Working Group, who ensures environmental and ethical standards are upheld.

Above: The Nirvana Crochet as seen on MEIYUE and FRANCESCA.

This season, AUPEN has launched a crochet version of their popular Nirvana bag using this season’s must-have material, the woven raffia. The Nirvana Crochet retains its structured but slouchy silhouette, and is paired with a braided strap in luxurious brown calfskin and complete with gold-toned hardware.

Above: The Aupen Nirvana Crochet, USD $340.

Adaptable for both work and play, the AUPEN Nirvana Crochet is THE ideal bag to have for not just fashion enthusiasts but working professionals as well with its ability to carry all your daily necessities from your smartphone, cards and keys, to your sunblock, sunglasses, and kindle.

The only qualm we have with the bag is its inability to fit a beach towel or a small water bottle but these are just minor inconveniences we are happy to work with when the bag makes us look cute!

Unlike real leather bags that often absorbs heat, the Nirvana Crochet reflects heat and is able to keep your items cool. In addition to being waterproof and sand proof (for those beach days), the bag is also oil and sweat resistant.

You don’t even have to worry if you get your Nirvana Crochet dirty as you can easily clean the bag with a wet wipe.

Above: close-up of the Aupen Nirvana Crochet.

We’ve spotted the Nirvana Crochet in the hands of friends and local influencers, and it’s only a matter of time before we see it on our favourite A-list celebrities around the globe.

The Nirvana Crochet is priced at USD $340 and is available for purchase HERE.

Editor’s Note: At the time of writing this article, AUPEN made international headlines when Michael Kors mentioned the brand in a testimony during the ongoing trial between FTC, Tapestry, Inc. and Capri Holdings.

In addition to CHANEL and Burberry, AUPEN was subpoenaed to reveal its financial statements to all involved parties, and Kors stated that “None of these brands have the money to pay” the megastars—Taylor Swift and Beyoncé—who have worn AUPEN bags.

Similar to Goyard and Hermès, AUPEN does not pay celebrities for endorsement and promotion.

Review: Xiaomi 14T Pro with a camera system Co-Engineered with Leica

It’s been two years since Xiaomi began their partnership with luxury German camera manufacturer, Leica, with the companies jointly developing camera systems together for Xiaomi’s flagship smartphones. The latest collaboration is seen in the Xiaomi 14T series that has been hotly anticipated for its high-end specs, and better price point compared to the 14 Pro and Ultra models that launched earlier this year.

Above: The Xiaomi 14T Pro in Black. For the 14T series, xiaomi works in partnership with Leica again for the camera system.

PERFORMANCE

For most users, the Xiaomi 14T is an excellent all-rounder; it will perform essential daily tasks without a hitch, and its camera system co-engineered with Leica will take very good pictures. For those willing to spend more to get an even better system, the Xiaomi 14T Pro is the one to consider. It’s equipped with MediaTek’s most powerful Dimensity 9300+ chip, which delivers high performance and superior energy efficiency, it’s fitted with a battery that charges faster, and a better main camera sensor for better quality pictures.

Above: The Xiaomi 14T Pro in Black is sleek, with a gorgeous matte sandstone finish.

CAMERA SYSTEM

As an avid photographer, the Xiaomi 14T Pro appeals to me on so many levels — the main one being with its camera system co-engineered with Leica, and having all the Leica filters built-in to the software for easily editing the style of a photo. In particular, there’s the two signature Leica photographic styles — Authentic (a natural, balanced look, great for street photography and everyday shots) and Vivid (a high contrast look where colours pop, resulting in a striking photo). These looks adhere to Leica’s colour science and tones, without excessive sharpening.

Above: a closer look at the leica triple camera system on the Xiaomi 14T Pro.

There are also convenient camera presets for Long Exposure shots, such as taking a “Moving Crowd”, “Neon Trails” and “Light Painting”. These are fun and simple to use, and give professional results without the need to understand the technical settings required to set up such a shot.

A “Pro” mode further gives the user complete manual controls over the White Balance, Focus, Shutter Speed, and ISO.

The display’s refresh rate at 144Hz is incredible fast. Viewing motion on the screen is super smooth and clear, and this really aids in capturing that perfect shot, especially with moving subjects. There’s also the peak brightness that reaches an impressive 4,000 nits. It’s unlikely you’ll need any screen to be this bright, but it helps when taking pictures under direct sunlight and you need to see clearly what’s on your screen.

Above: photo of someone, somewhere. Shot on xiaomi 14t pro.

TAKING PHOTOS

When taking a photo, you’re freezing a moment in time. That photo will tell a story about what it has captured, and a good photo will evoke emotions or memories. With any smartphone, taking pictures is second nature to most of us, but with the Xiaomi 14T Pro, you’ll be taking better pictures that will have you wanting to switch to this phone just for its camera system.

Above: that’s me testing out the xiaomi 14t pro against the sunset.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been taking the Xiaomi 14T Pro along with me wherever I go, and that includes to the press conference and finals of the Miss Universe Singapore pageant where I was the official portrait photographer and one of the judges.

I took a whole bunch of portraits of current regional beauty queens who flew down for the finals to watch the Singapore contest. And with every photo I took, there were “ooohs” and “ahhhs”, and I kept getting requests from each girl sitting at the table for their own picture to be captured with the phone. I had to field questions about the phone I was using, because of how instantly impressive every photo turned out; as the phone was still under embargo, I just replied, “Xiaomi”.

Above: portrait of miss universe indonesia 2024, shot on the xiaomi 14t pro.

Above: portrait of miss universe Malaysia 2024 1st runner-up, shot on the xiaomi 14t pro.

What made the phone even more impressive, was that we were in a pretty dark setting at Amber Lounge with low ambient light. The phone’s main sensor picked up the surrounding light and gave photos that were high in contrast, showed good depth against the busy background, and captured the coloured lights in the club beautifully.

Above: miss universe Singapore 2024, Charlotte Chia being crowned. shot on the xiaomi 14t pro.

FILTERS

Everyone loves to add filters to their photos; especially ones that make them appear more attractive (such as having smoother skin and a slimmer jawline); and colour calibrated filters also set the mood for what you’re trying to emote in the photo.

Above: the chefs at fiasco by juice.

As with all the Xiaomi phones created in partnership with Leica, the 14T Pro comes with a whole suite of photographic filters that can be applied directly to any photo without the need for a third-party app. And these filters are really fun to play with. They enhance photos, giving them a professionally colour-graded look.

Above: portrait of kunar, shot in daylight with the xiaomi 14t pro.

Above: portrait of lisa, shot at night in a restaurant with the xiaomi 14t pro.

The Xiaomi 14T series stands out for its incredible low light captures, and of course you get all the Leica filters and signature Leica colour calibrations that come with the phone. It’s not just for photographers, but any person who is after a mid-range, reasonably-priced phone, with an excellent camera system.

The Xiaomi 14T Pro is priced at S$999 (1TB) and comes in titan gray, titan blue, and titan black.
The xiaomi 14T pro is also available in a 512GB model priced at S$869 which is for online purchase only.
It is available for purchase from xiaomi authorised stores, Partner stores, and lazada.

ErgoTune’s Vesby is the ultimate desk chair that I’ve been waiting for

Finding a suitable desk chair has always been one of the dilemmas I’ve faced since my school days because I have what is deemed a “chicken neck”, which is a bad hyperextended neck position when I sit.

Since then, I’ve been on a hunt for a desk chair that could not only give me good ergonomic support but also a bit of a neck support. As if hearing my silent cry for help, the good folks at ErgoTune came to my rescue with their latest design, the Vesby.

Vesby is Singapore’s first 100% locally designed ergonomic office chair that has been conceptualised after three years of research and development. Unlike typical office chairs, Vesby has a seamless, artisanal design that is comparable with high-end designer task chairs from known brands.

GREAT COMFORT FOR THE WHOLE BODY

When it first arrived, I was a little overwhelmed by how big the package was and felt even more anxious when I finally unboxed everything. Feeling confident that I could fix up the chair in 10 minutes (as suggested on their website), I got to work while following the instructions on the massive manual.

Unfortunately, as all of my past experiences with IKEA furniture has proven, I’m not the best at D-I-Y and fixing it in 10 minutes was wishful thinking. After about close to two hours of fixing my chair, my Vesby was complete.

At first glance, I already fell in love with the chair because there seemed to be a support for almost every part of my body. From the lumbar support to the headrest and the armrest, it felt like ErgoTune was able to account for every area while I was sitting down.

As I worked from home on most days, it is a guarantee that I would spend a good five hours or so at my desk.

With the SmartFlex Pro lumbar support, I found myself being able to sit upright this time, and even though I had a bad habit of hyperextending my neck while I work, the support I felt in my lower back actually ended up stopping me from falling back to my usual posture.

It also helped that the lumbar support has designed a curvature that aligns with the spine’s natural, optimal curve; minimising spinal pressure and maximising comfort.

In the past, I would often fidget when I sit at my desk because I could never find a comfortable position to sit in for long.

Being in the Vesby was different — I felt like I was sitting in a plush-like chair and I didn’t have to keep finding ways to fold my legs in odd angles because of the rounded spokes of the chair base where I can now rest my feet.

As we live in the Singapore heat, it is important to have a chair that uses material which does not make you feel uncomfortable. The Vesby seems to understand this very well as the DuraWeave Fabric Mesh offered maximum breathability and helped to keep me cool.

One thing that I particularly loved about the Vesby was the TriTune 3D Pro Headrest which was something that was not available with all my previous desk chairs.

Adjustable in three ways for height, depth, and angle, the Vesby’s Tribune 3D Pro Headrest offers a personalised fit with optimal curvature for full support across the back of the neck and shoulder area.

Since using the headrest, I found myself feeling less fatigue in the neck area and had less complaints about tension headaches that I would typically get due to my bad posture.

While I cannot say that I have completely kicked my bad habit yet, I have consciously reminded myself to lean against the headrest whenever I felt the urge to stick my neck out (in an effort to get closer to the monitor).

Having never had the luxury of armrests with my desk chairs, the Vesby’s SyncTilt Armrest was a welcome sight.

Built to adapt effortlessly to your movements, the armrest supports you no matter your position and features a 360-degree pivot for increased flexibility, as well as width adjustability for all shoulder types, and extended forward-backward movement.

It’s also designed for synchronised tilt with the backrest so that your arms are comfortably supported even when reclining.

PERSONALISING THE VESBY

Apart from being able to choose the colour I like from the curated palette of colours, the Vesby also features Poppits — a customisable element that attaches to the track system along the headrest and backrest.

This means that you can truly make the chair yours with 300 in-house designs that include emojis, Zodiac signs, flags, alphabets and work mantras.

ErgoTune has also partnered with talented local illustrators from Singapore in a special collaboration to bring cute characters to add to the chair. These include Tori and Sam from Bobblejot and Little Eleph from JangandFox.

The POPPITS are sold separately from the Vesby and are priced at S$7.90 each.
The ERGOTUNE VESBY is priced at S$899 and is available for purchase here.

More than just a pageant — Past Miss Universe Singapore winners share their thoughts on how the competition changes lives

Whenever someone brings up women who contest in pageants, there is always this sort of stereotype that comes with it, where they are looked at as a little air-headed or fake.

I, too, have been guilty of this sentiment whenever it came to the topic of Miss Universe Singapore; often agreeing with the stereotypes put forth by others and not really noticing that these women have actually accomplished more I ever would just by their participation.

With the finals of Miss Universe Singapore 2024 just a few days away, I spoke with three former beauty queens — Zahra Khanum (2018), Bernadette Belle Ong (2020), and Carissa Yap (2022)— who made me realise that there was more to this pageant.

Even after all the criticisms they had received during their time in the competition, there was a shared consensus that participating had only changed their life for the better; giving them the opportunity to make friends and bond in a like-minded sisterhood while also moulding each of them into a stronger and more confident woman.

Above: BERNADETTE BELLE ONG Photographed by ADELE CHAN.

Hi Queens! Could you share with us what you have been doing since your reign as Miss Universe Singapore?

Zahra: “I have been dedicated to expanding my talents in the field of education that has been driven by a lifelong passion for working with children. Inspired by my own teachers, I aspire to play a pivotal role in shaping young minds and building their potential, as I believe in nurturing their confidence, help them recognise their strengths, and guide them to improve their weaknesses.

In today’s fast-paced and sometimes unforgiving world, it is essential for young learners to be equipped not only with academic skills, but also with the resilience and adaptability they need to thrive. My goal is to create an environment where children feel empowered to explore their capabilities and face challenges head-on, and to prepare them for a successful future.”

Bernadette: “After Miss Universe, I’ve been doing freelance work in a creative capacity and have helped to manage brand campaigns for names like YSL and Dior. I’ve also started DJ-ing for public events like the Formula One Night Race and Crypto events, done modelling for TV and print, and currently run my own sustainable jewelry line called Cora Collect.”

Carissa: “In the day, I work as a Banker within Securities Finance, driven by my interest in financial inclusion and digital assets. I spend majority of my time with industry mentors and peers developing products within the financial markers. I’m excited for the future of our progress with the rise of digitisation and hope to move towards financial inclusion and mobility.

As someone who loves creative work, I have also modelled for Fashion and Beauty brands, and worked on social media campaigns with them to effectively bring a message across to our audience. Being able to connect with like-minded individuals constantly motivates me and has inspired me to continue this journey.

Using my voice and inspiring my audience, across both roles, is often what I find most enjoyable.

ABOVE: ZAHRA KHANUM PHOTOGRAPHED BY ADELE CHAN.

What have you learned or gained from participating in Miss Universe Singapore?

Z: “I have experienced significant personal growth, particularly in building my confidence and enhancing my lifestyle. Having engaged with diverse groups of people has opened my eyes to the bigger picture of life, instilling in me a sense of higher purpose and a deeper understanding of the world around me.

Through these experiences, I’ve learned to stand up for myself and effectively engage with others. I’ve come to realise that the world extends far beyond Singapore, and I have the power to make a difference through my voice and the small steps I take each day.

Participating in platforms like Miss Universe Singapore has reinforced the importance of community and the need to uplift those who often go unheard. It has taught me that life is richer when we recognise something greater than ourselves, and that true meaning lies in our connections with others.”

C: “Participating in Miss Universe Singapore has taught me that it takes courage to be different. Having to step out of my comfort zone and being in the spotlight has made me realise the need to use our voices for good and to make an impact in our own unique ways. The entire experience has instilled a great sense of self-confidence in me as I now have a deeper understanding of my role to play and of the community.

Engaging in dialogue with the diverse connections l’ve made has been one of the biggest takeaways too, as I’m constantly inspired hearing from people coming from all walks of life.”

Compared with the former regulations, what are your thoughts on the new requirements set for the 2024 batch?

Z: “I genuinely believe that the inclusivity of this year’s pageant is a positive one as this approach is a more wholesome choice. It empowers women — whether they are single, married, divorced — to pursue their passions and advocate for their causes and community.

I’m encouraged to see a diminishing stigma around diverse groups of women and identities, all of whom possess the ability to raise their voices and effect change. Every woman should have the opportunity to embark on this journey and be given an equal chance to shine on this platform.”

B: “For me, I think it’s rearing its head towards more progressive values because women are doing so many things now despite their age, and Miss Universe Singapore is a platform that they any woman can tap on to gain an intangible experience to build friendships and make memories with.”

C: “I always think of the Miss Universe Singapore platform as a celebration of diversity and of the many roles a woman can play in life.

The new requirements exactly encapsulates this as it allows women of all ages and backgrounds to participate and advocate for the causes close to heart. This change is definitely a forward-looking one I welcome wholeheartedly as it enforces the message that it’s never too late to start and that your past doesn’t define you.

What do you think of the current mix of finalists?

Z: “I find them to be a unique, mature, and exceptionally talented group of women. They are articulate and ambitious, and I have truly enjoyed engaging in conversation with them. I am very hopeful that they will represent Singapore well. I was genuinely impressed by their advocacies and the potential they have to effect positive change for the communities they have chosen to work with. I am very sure whoever the winner is will do Singapore proud.”

B: “Without the limitations, I can’t even tell who has been divorced or who’s older (laughs). And I think that comes favourable to us Asians. It means that at any age, the finalists can take care of themselves really well and present themselves amongst anybody, even those on an international stage.”

C: “It has been inspiring to hear the stories behind the advocacies that these women stand for. Each of them is unique in their own ways and seeing how they support each other brings back many fond memories of my time during the competition.

All of them perfectly embody what it means to be a modern woman to pursue their goals and at the same time use their voices for good to make an impact on their community.

Any sisterly advice for the finalists as they head into the finals this Sunday?

Z: “Be yourself and enjoy this journey. Make your presence known and embrace your confidence. Share your authentic self and your beliefs — don’t be afraid to stand out. There’s no need to follow a specific narrative; just focus on being genuine and have fun.

Also, make sure to rest well before the competition and find grounding activities that help you stay centred as you approach the finals. Speak from your heart and remember to be true to yourself. Good luck to all of you! At the end of the day, you are all winners!”

B: “Just have a good time because when you’re not having a good time and you’re stuck in your head, it actually shows up, especially on stage. Celebrate the fact that you’ve made it up to the finals and you’ve carried the entire program till that point.

It’s a very select experience that not a lot of people can have and everybody’s rooting for everybody. Letting go of any expectation will make you shine brighter on stage.”

C: “With the finals just round the corner, I think it’s important to calm your nerves by showing up as your most authentic self — staying true to my core beliefs and values was what helped me during the finals.

It is most important to not let the stress get to you as well. Also, when you visualize that winning feeling, you’ll feel less anxious!

I think it’s impressive that all the finalists have made it thus far and they should be proud of themselves and celebrate this beautiful memory.
