Bend It Like Beckham with Jogging Pants You Can Wear Outside The Gym

If anyone knows classy, you can bet it’s David Beckham. In this new installation of his collaboration with H&M, David Beckham has updated his collection Modern Essentials selected by David Beckham to focus on the classic suit with a contemporary twist – just in time for Spring 2016. It will come as no surprise, then, that this new collection boasts a tasteful blend of sportswear and sharp tailoring, to see you through the season comfortably, and with versatility.

3046_04_sRGB_300 3046_05_sRGB_300 3046_01_sRGB_300

The selection of Harrington jackets and matching tailored pants, surprisingly, easily complement the trendy joggers and sweats that you’d expect to see in any sportswear line. It’s all meant to represent the evolution of men’s style, with contrasting textures and colours, while staying casually chic for any occasion. The devil is in the details – crisp white lapels on the polo shirts lend a sharp aesthetic to the typical sports-inspired piece. You can look forward to clean silhouettes and classy cuts – a la Red Carpet Beckham.
And for anyone keener on casualwear, the David Beckham Bodywear line at H&M has received a facelift for this spring too. Sportswear classics like sweatshirts and joggers are getting new shapes and fresh details – think raw hems, side zips, and boho-style raglan sleeves for a laidback, worn-in effect. Everything comes in a gorgeous chill palette of urban neutrals – perfect for easy mixing and matching of the sports luxe trend.
3046_11_sRGB_300 3046_09_sRGB_300

The very thought of lounging around so glamorously has us dizzy, but it’s good to know the athlete himself walks his talk. “It’s everything a man needs for bodywear,” says David Beckham, “from underwear to these new takes on sportswear classics that I can’t wait to wear.” Well, now there’s just no excuse to look sloppy at the gym.

H&M DB Modern Essentials collection, $19.90 for a T-Shirt to $139.90 for a Blazer; Bodywear collection, $24.90 for a Tank Top to $79.90 for Sweatpants, available at H&M Orchard Building and ION Orchard from 25 February 2016. hm.com/sg/

Tis’ The Season of Flowers

If you love floral-everything, you’ve probably been busy prancing about town getting your hands on all the new Spring/Summer collections. Floral patterns and bright colours are always a staple for this season, and it’s no different for the folks at New Balance. They’ve created a nature-inspired collection that draws on the theme of midnight in the forest. The brand has taken their award-winning Fresh Foam Zante model and refreshed it in an inventive lifestyle package, complete with floral adornments that blossom from the darker shade of the base shoe colour. It’s a more contrastive and vibrant collection that leans on the darker, more sophisticated side of Spring. A fully bloomed floral print on the forefoot and tongue ushers in the season and is paired with a dark, single-coloured canvas upper from mid shoe to the heel for a striking contrast. And of course, the shoe boasts the Fresh Foam midsole that promises excellent cushioning and lasting comfort.
Fresh Foam Zante “Midnight Bloom”, $169. Available from tomorrow at New Balance Experience Stores and outlets.

Interview: Return of the Nigo

Yes, it’s a reference to our undying love for Star Wars, but it also happens to be the name of a live Sotheby’s auction of Nigo’s personal stash of Star Wars collectibles that raked up a total of US$502,202. One of the items, a Canadian Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back seven-figure multi-pack from 1980, was auctioned for a whooping US$32,500! Star Wars is just one of Nigo’s many interests, but as the UT (Uniqlo T-shirts) Creative Director, he sets out to take different kinds of pop culture – something he has a strong passion for – and translates them onto t-shirts in the UT range. These UTs have become central to Uniqlo’s Lifewear philosophy and embodies the brand’s unwavering commitment to authenticity and quality. Nigo banks on his exceptional strength as a curator and selects only the world’s top examples of pop culture and comes up with the best ways to convey the graphical contents on the UT. This season sees humorous lego-themed designs for both adults and children, music icons from the Universal label, and more. We spoke with him about streetwear fashion, this season’s UT collection, and of course Star Wars, when we were in Tokyo last month to check out Uniqlo’s Spring/Summer ’16 Collection. By Adam Kerr.

Get Hooked Onto This Kapok x Carrie K. Jewellery Collection

The mecca of curated homegrown brands, Hong Kong brand kapok, has just turned ten! While we’re whipping out the balloons to celebrate this milestone, the folks at kapok themselves sprung a special surprise worthy of a decade-old celebration – a unique collaboration with Singapore’s very own jewellery designer Carolyn Kan.
We love the #supportlocal slant this new kapok-Carrie K. collab is priming, in keeping with the kapok mission to curate and nurture emerging creative talents and artisans from around the world. Our girl Carrie K. is known to push the boundaries of craftsmanship, with her playful designs that challenge traditional notions of “desirable” jewellery. So it’s only natural that we’re beyond stoked to receive the one-off kapok x Carrie K. Capsule Collection with open arms – released most timely just before Valentine’s Day too.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The collaboration sees an unconventionally fresh take on design silhouettes, opening a new window to jewellery design – literally. Inspired by Peranakan window hooks of iconic Singapore shophouse shutters, the rings in the Capsule Collection are an explicit re-imagination of the window hook, and celebrate the beauty of mundane everyday life – in silver, rose gold-plated silver, and yellow gold-plated silver. If you’re looking for a bit more of a statement piece, the Collection also includes bracelets made from Carrie K.’s signature hand-branded leather, which also draw inspiration from the humble window hook. You can nab one for a loved one – or yourself – at the kapok Singapore flagship store at the National Design Centre, any day from 22 January to 22 February – just in time for anyone scrambling for a last minute V-Day present.

For that extra touch of love, you can even get your bracelets personalised – by homegirl Carrie K. herself. Mark your calendars for 30 January, and make a date with the designer at kapok NDC, in an exclusive workshop where you can letter stamp your one-of-a-kind bracelet clasp. Now that’s a present bound to get you back into anyone’s good books.

You Can Now Kit Out Your Home in Hello Kitty

Spring has sprung in Singapore (hey, it’s called the Spring Festival after all), and it’s time to get that spring-cleaning out of the way before the Lunar New Year rolls in! And with new gift ideas from 3M, tidying up becomes practical without losing finesse.
Get this – Hello Kitty floor stickers. The newly launched 3M Safety-Walk Anti-Slip Floor Stickers – Hello Kitty Collector’s Edition are an otaku’s take on usual floor stickers; combining practicality with, well, aesthetic. Personally, the idea of cutesy iconic Japanese felines bedazzling our floor isn’t quite our thing, but hey, safety first. And with all the visiting tots you’ll be receiving this festive season, you’ll be thankful to have these plastered over your bathroom floors and kitchen.

bathroom

And while we’re on the topic of CNY visiting, it’s a no-brainer that you’ll be needing something to get rid of post-CNY party stains. 3M takes a step away from its usual adhesives – with the Sharpshooter™ Tough Stain & Grease Remover that should easily eliminate spots and stains, and lets you get into all the nooks and crannies you hate reaching. The new solution works on a good variety of surfaces – think walls, floors, vinyl, and stainless steel – no rinsing required. Just spray and wipe, and you’re good to receive your next party guests!
In need of a refreshment after your arduous spring-cleaning? Ditch the soft drinks and refuel with good ol’ water instead – you’re 70% it anyway. Hydrate in style with the 3M BPA-FREE Filtered Water Dispenser, which promises clean, filtered water at any time of the day. Your Chinese New Year guests will be clamouring over this handy all-in-one dispenser, which dispenses in all temperatures in a compact shape that’s snazzy as hell.
application-shot-1

So to summarise, that’s Hello Kitty floors that you’ll be keeping squeaky clean with a killer stain remover, after which you can reward yourself with 99.9% bacteria-free water from your futuristic water dispenser. Ace. Looks like 2016 is the year you can finally catch a break from snooty relatives casting their annual snarky judgment on your beloved living space. Well, at least out loud.

The Korean Ombre Trend For Your Eyes

If you’ve always batted on Team AsianMakeup, you’ll be thrilled to know that the folks at LANEIGE have upgraded their take on the Korean-style ombre look – with all-new colours for the sleek Two Tone Lip Bar, plus a spanking new Two Tone Shadow Bar just for your peepers.
We’re spoilt for choice now that the beloved gradient lip of K-pop stars comes in four additional colours – choose from Juicy Pop, Maxi Red, Orange Blurring, and Dear Pink to personalise your pucker. For everyone attempting the K-Beauty lip for the first time, these 2nd Gen. Two Tone lippies make for an easy first foray into ombre lip application, combining high gloss and creamy semi-matte lipstick so that you get the best of both worlds in lip product – not to mention natural lip volume without the whole lip liner saga.

laneige-two-tone-lip-bar

But perhaps the most exciting part about LANEIGE’s new Two Tone Collection is the revolutionary translation of the dual tone trend from the lips to the eyes. Convenience is key here – the all-new Two Tone Shadow Bar is a handy way to create multiple looks in one sitting, without having to lug your usual shadow shebang around. Go natural with the lighter tones of this cream-based shadow stick (formulated with Jewel Powder to brighten under-eyes!), or build layers to an intense smokey-eye for a wearable day-to-night look. The subtle shimmer in the formula keeps you looking fresh and glowy all day – a deliberate attempt to emulate the coveted dewy finish of Korean beauty looks.
There’s Humming Coral, Golden Rose, Orange Island, and Coffee Bronze to pamper your lids with, but our personal favourite has to be the versatile Coral – purely because it doubles as a natural-looking blusher too. Pigmentation aside, the original oblique shape of the Shadow Bar means more natural gradation, and lesser creasing and stickiness – even when you pile it on for the night. And with the sleek rose-gold packaging, it’s pretty to boot.

So This Is What Coca-Cola Raspberry Tastes Like…

You’ll finally be able to know. And quench your thirst while at it. We’ll admit this: coke (the drink) happens to be one of the best fizzy beverages we crave on a hot day, and it’s pretty awesome on its own, but what’s this – there’s actually Coca-Cola Orange, Cherry Vanilla and Raspberry too?
That’s possible, thanks to Coca-Cola Freestyle. First launched in the United States in 2009, we’ll finally be getting a taste of it, since the machine will be making its Asian debut right here in Singapore.
We’re talking about a touchscreen-operated beverage dispenser where we get to choose from more than 80 different drinks, of which 70 are new to us. These drinks are so cool you probably haven’t tasted them yet, hipsters be warned, and include flavours like Coca-Cola Light Cherry Vanilla, Fanta Fruit Punch, Sprite Vanilla, and Schweppes Lemon.

CCFS 2 CCFS 1
The machine’s also designed by Italian design firm Pininfarina. They design car bodies for Ferrari, hence the super sleek look.
And if you think it’s as easy as combining different flavours, think again. Each ingredient used for each drink is stored in separate cartridges, to ensure that you won’t be tasting some other drink, while the patented air-mix nozzle mixes your drink “in the air”. It’s not really about mixing the same amount of orange in a Coca-Cola Orange and Sprite Orange either; each recipe is specially formulated for the best flavour combination. All this trouble so you get something that tastes good.
To celebrate this Asian premiere of Coca-Cola Freestyle, there will be a free trial of Coca-Cola Freestyle beverages on 23rd January 2016, Saturday, at Orchard Cineleisure (Main Entrance) between 2pm to 7pm. Make your way down so you can brag about being the first to try a Coca-Cola Raspberry.
Available at 7-Eleven Cathay Cineleisure, Vista Point; Buffet Town International Buffet Restaurant at Raffles City; and GV Plaza at Plaza Singapura (Coming Soon!). More information here: coca-cola.com.sg.

Bata Is Officially Cool, Guys

Bata will always, always have a special place in our hearts for being a reliable source of all-white canvas shoes throughout our formal schooling years. Mary-janes, sneakers, those ubiquitous velcro straps – whatever our primary school style was, Bata had something for us.
It might have been a running joke that Bata was an acronym for “Buy And Throw Away”, but we insist that Bata shoes were always reliable, usually lasting us years. Now that we’re all grown up, Bata shoes might not have a spot in our shoe cupboards any longer… until now.
Turns out that Bata actually made basketball shoes for a NBA team in Baltimore, USA, back in 1964. This is the inspiration behind the relaunched Bata Bullets, made up of the original white high-top style, now with navy, white on white, and black on black variations, in both high and low-cut options.

After seeing this collection, we’re definitely acknowledging Bata as a classic sneaker brand. And one that is actually really cool.

Time To Get These Stüssy x Nike Air Max 95 Sneakers

Granted, this isn’t entirely new news. The sought-after Stüssy x Nike Air Max 95 has already been available online and in overseas stores since last December… but now, we can finally say you’re able to get your hands on them, near instantly.
Rather than that endless wait for the items to ship, all you have to do is walk up to the Stüssy Chapter store at Cineleisure tomorrow. We’re talking about shoes from two enticing brands, one, known for a Californian contemporary streetwear aesthetic, and another, a sportswear giant that has birthed iconic designs such as the Air Max and Roshe that’s long been synonymous with the brand.

Stussy.Nike.Airmax95.Media-4 Stussy.Nike.Airmax95.Media-9 Stussy.Nike.Airmax95.Media-14

So, this time, they’ve taken the lightweight design and gone for a fairly simple approach, having them come in tonal black, olive and blue, in nylon and suede, paired with white soles, and without funky contrast colours or prints. Well, except for one significant detail though; as a nod to their first collaboration in 2000, they’ve updated the shoe with a neoprene tongue.

The Stüssy x Air Max 95 sneakers will be available from 22 January, Friday, at $310 a pair.

The Unusual Beauty Tools To Try

The extremely innovative beauty industry comes up with new ideas at breakneck speed, and now and then, we get products that are a bit more unusual. From a humble cloth that promises to get all your waterproof makeup off with just water, to dumbbells for your face – here are some beauty innovations that are a bit more out of the ordinary to try.

Makeup Eraser

makeup eraser

It might look like any old washcloth, but this product promises a lot: to remove all your makeup – waterproof mascara included – with only water. We spoke to co-founder Tanya Anderson at the recent Sephora Press Day, and she told us that the idea for this product was birthed after her daughter accidentally discovered the power of polyester to remove makeup, so the Makeup Eraser is made of 100 per cent polyester blend that’s weaved in a specific way that allows it to pick up makeup.
You use it by first dampening the cloth, and then moving the side with the shorter fibres in circular motions all over the face. Then, flip it over to the side with the longer fibres, which is the exfoliating end that helps get deeper into the pores. Anderson told us the Makeup Eraser can be washed every three to four days, so you just use a different section each time (though we’re not sure hygiene freaks will be entirely on board with that). We gave this a try, and as much as our foundation, blush and lipstick quickly transferred onto the polyester, it didn’t really do much for our waterproof mascara – maybe that requires more strength to go into the rubbing. Still, it’s a really interesting concept, and really is a hassle-free way of removing relatively lighter makeup. For the sake of your skin, just remember to wash it every few days, please.
$30, available at Sephora. makeuperaser.com

Sigma Beauty Spa Express Brush Cleansing Glove
sigma

This will change the way you wash your makeup brushes entirely. At first look, we had no idea how this could be a brush cleansing tool – but after reading the instructions, it really is pretty nifty. Basically, you wear it as a glove, then wet your dirty brushes and add a bit of brush cleansing solution and water to the glove. After that, swirl the brushes on the “Wash” texture, then sweep them on the “Rinse” texture under running water to remove any residual soap. To really clean them to the maximum, swirl them on the “Refine” texture. You might be surprised how much makeup residue comes off your brushes throughout this entire process.
This particular version of the Sigma cleansing glove is marketed as a travel-friendly compact version, but we did feel it was still a bit bulky to pack along in your travel makeup pouch. But we’d still keep it on our bathroom shelves, to keep our brushes in tip-top hygiene.
$36, available on luxola.com. sigmabeauty.com

BeautyBlender Blotterazzi
beautyblender

We’ve introduced this oil blotter variation to the iconic BeautyBlender previously – it really is a game-changer in face blotting. It’s made of the same cushiony material as the BeautyBlender – just more two-dimensional, as it’s a flat teardrop shape. The main difference is you use this one dry, and the materials absorbs all the excess oils on your skin without messing up your makeup. And you don’t have to deal with blotting sheets with nasty oil stains after.
What we also like is it comes in a nice teardrop-shaped mirrored compact, so you can slip it easily into any bag and look where you’re blotting. There are two Blotterazzis inside each compact, separated by a clear sheet – so you’ll always have a spare while one’s being washed. Just wash it like how you would a regular BeautyBlender, and this promises to last 60 days as long as you clean it properly.
$37, available at Sephora. beautyblender.com

MTG Facial Fitness PAO
mtg

Those smile lines you might see slowly forming at the sides of your mouth? They can be kept at bay with exercise. No, really. MTG’s Facial Fitness PAO device promises to fight gravity by training your facial muscles, and comes in the form of a long and thin weighted bar. It’s pretty much like dumbbells for your face, as you’re supposed to bite the mouthpiece in the centre and bob your head up and down – this causes the weighted ends to swing up and down, generating a resonance movement that exercises your facial muscles. And just like dumbbells, you can even switch the weights over three levels, ranging from 18g to 28g for a progressive face workout plan.
You’ll definitely look ridiculous doing this, so keep this workout to the privacy of your home. But hey, anything to beat those smile lines, right? You’re supposed to use this twice a day, for 30 seconds each time – so it’s still possible to sneak in a quick workout in your office cubicle (just try not to let your colleagues spot you). Trust the Japanese to come up with such a quirky tool like this – they really do come up with everything.
$200, available at AIBI outlets and on mtg-sg.com

[Contest] Dancing In The Meadows

Ahh yes, it’s that time of the year again where we make our annual pilgrimage to The Meadow for St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival. It doesn’t matter whether you’re that hipster who says they’re anything but hipster, or the unapologetically mainstream listener because music is music, and this sixth edition is set to get you off your butts to move your body, one way or another (nobody’s gonna judge the way you dance!).
The indie music festival, which originated from Australia, has grown so much, so fast, and at The Meadow at Gardens By The Bay, we can once again gather with the rest of the like-minded appreciators of music to bask in the awesome mix of left-field electronica, intelligent pop, boundary-pushing R&B and other genre-fluid music from the States, Australia, United Kingdom, Philippines, Canada, Hong Kong, and of course, Singapore.
This year’s stellar line-up sees the return of Baltimore dream pop duo, Beach House, who recently dropped not one, but two studio albums last year. We’ll also be in the presence of one of Australia’s biggest export, Flume, who’ll be bringing his A-game in the form of new material from his highly-anticipated second LP (slated for release this year). And how can we forget the ever-so-cute-but-witty Canadian “warrior poet”, Grimes? Her last album, “Art Angels” was a fearless inventive piece of work.
On the local side of things, the boys from Cashew Chemists bring their brand of the delta blues to a bigger stage for everyone to soak up while Intriguant (real name Louis Quek) slows down the pace, keeping it all chill with downtempo and fragile beats fused with a spectrum of influences ranging from electronica and glitch, to soul and hip hop. And the last homegrown act that’ll be proudly flying our flag is none other than Riot !n Magenta, who has been making waves in the past year after releasing their four-track EP, “Voices”.
Plus, just yesterday, the Laneway Festival organisers just gave us a nice surprise, by announcing a brand new stage, the fourth one, at this year’s festival. Set up with local collective Syndicate, we can expect local and international electronic DJs and visual artists, including Australia’s JPS Singapore’s Mean, Fauxe, and visual artist Brandon Tay accompanying duo Kiat & Kane.
Being under the sun for more than 12 hours can be pretty relentless, but when you’re in the company of great friends and strangers who enjoy the same eclectic taste of music as you do (you’ll be surprised at how friendly some of them are), along with all the activity tents set up to help you get your mind off the heat, countless of F&B options to replenish your energy, and of course the music, the wholesome experience you get every year is something you’ll never ever regret. Just remember to bring that bottle of sunscreen because nobody likes to be burnt.

Tom Ford's Getting In On The Lip Stain Game

Tom Ford just brought the party that was his Spring/Summer 2016 presentation – he broke all the fashion week rules and chose to reveal his collection in the form of a video starring Lady Gaga dancing among the models – to his new S/S ’16 makeup collection. The face, eye and lip colours are directly inspired by the ready-to-wear pieces that feature lots of glittery and metallic textures, which translates into pink highlights, glossy lids, and a high-shine lip.
Speaking of that high-shine lip, it comes in the form of the very exciting and all-new Tom Ford Patent Finish Lip Colour. The brand has finally gotten in on the lip stain game, and this one is packaged as a click pen with a sponge tip applicator so you can dab the colour on and control the intensity you want. In typical Tom Ford style, the shades range from bright to deep, from a cherry to a blackened berry, so you know you’ll only be ending up with a statement lip with this.

lip stain

As for the rest of the collection, the High Definition Eye Liner is an ultra-thin eye pencil to add subtle definition in high-intensity colours; the Cream Colour For Eyes comes in eight metallic shades in a creamy formula; and the Extreme Mascara is now available in a waterproof version. Limited edition SS16 items include a Lip Colour Shine and Shade and Illuminate highlighter and shading cream in a suede nude and luminescent pink respectively, echoing what the models wore in the runway video. Overall, definitely a collection very much worth investing in – one can never have to many lip stains, after all.

These Squarestreet Leather Sneakers Are Seriously Cool

Do we even need to tell you what’s on our lust list this month? Definitely a pair of these leather sneakers, that’s different because while sporty and functional as a pair of trainers, they come with a sleek, leather-bound silhouette.

SQ37 black 1 SQ37 black 8

You can thank Scandinavian fashion label, squarestreet, for this brilliance in minimalist design. Their SQ37 sneakers are as well-made as dress shoes, crafted with Italian vegetable tanned leather, but are as comfortable as sneakers. Instead of trapping heat, these shoes are able to deodorise and “breathe”, while there’s a proprietary 5mm rubber sheet for traction, as well as a high density one-piece wedge outsole made from expanded foam rubber. As for the dressy part, the naturally tanned leather will only age beautifully over time, so you don’t really have to fuss over creases and markings.
SQ37 blue grey 4 SQ37 natural yellow 5

The shoes come in three colour ways: black, blue/beige and yellow/natural, in sizes 36 – 44. You had better snap it up soon though – the launch is limited to 200 pairs worldwide.

Why It's Time To Upgrade Your Skincare Regime

In 2016, we predict facial devices to get bigger than ever. Brand after brand is launching their own take on these high-tech beauty products, which use everything from light, ultrasound waves and vibrations to keep skin in as optimal a state as possible. Philips will be upping their game this year with a launch of a whole new line of advanced skincare tools, to be retailing at Sephora stores, and these four devices pretty much cover every step of the skincare routine. Time to upgrade:

Cleanse

visapure advanced

You can switch up the cleansing head of the VisaPure Advanced, one for each of the modes: Deep Cleansing, Revitalising Massage and Fresh Eyes. Apparently, this particular device was developed in collaboration with Japanese massage experts, so those tools really pamper your skin in a way that improves microcirculation and boost the absorption of skincare products at the same time. All you have to do to switch between the modes is to attach the individual heads, as Near Field Communication technology allows the device to automatically detect which head has been attached, and then start the appropriate programme.

Treat
visapure essential

You might bristle at the idea of putting an electronic brush to your breakout, but the VisaPure Essential Anti-Blemish promises to be gentle with a dual motion technology on its brush head with long and thin bristles. Use it with a cleanser to dissolve sebum, and the brush motion then removes dead skin cells and any other nasty residue that could clog your pores.

Exfoliate
visacare

Ditch that abrasive sugar scrub you’ve been subjecting your skin to, and switch to the VisaCare Microdermabrasion – it’s like having a professional facial done at home, as this uses a microdermabrasion technology that the pros use. The action of the device both lifts and exfoliates the skin, so the skin looks firmer, in addition to being brighter.

Moisturise
visaboost

Your skincare needs some ultrasound to work better. The VisaBoost Ultrasound Facial Moisturiser emits ultrasounds waves to dissolve the products you’ve applied onto your skin, and also uses vibration to massage the skin and promote micro-circulation, which also further boosts absorption.

Philips VisaPure Advanced SC5370/10, $455; VisaPure Essential Anti-Blemish SC5278/14, $289; VisaCare Microdermabrasion SC6240/01, $489; and VisaBoost Ultrasound Facial Moisturiser SC2800/00. $269. Available at Sephora ION Orchard, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, NEX, Suntec City Mall and VivoCity from March 17. philips.com.sg

Unleash The Badass In You With These Watches

There’s nothing more telling about your personality than your choice of watch. It all boils down to personal style and how he carries himself to make a lasting, good impression on someone. Just a single look at you can give away your overall ethos; from the way you wear your clothes, the way you walk, your haircut, and then there’s the watch. Besides being able to tell the time, it also reflects your own personal style more than anything else. What you wear is symbolic to who you are. If you’re been on the hunt for a watch brand that gives your “live for the moment”, carefree attitude, say no more. The POLICE lifestyle is the perfect embodiment of that, and has released an array of nifty watches for the urban man who’s confident of his own sense of style. This collection of rugged watches represent a kind of statement the wearer is trying to put out about himself.
Come on now, who doesn’t actually like skulls, especially one as large as this? It’s literally taking centre stage, making up for majority of the watch dial. Skulls have been used over and over again in fashion. It’s such a fascinating image because of its symbolism – there’s so many deep meanings that can be identified with it. The obvious would be its association to death, usually with a bunch of other death-related images. Skulls could also reflect the lasting image of a person’s mortality, or be a symbol for bravery and toughness. For Police, this Reaper watch represents the unconventional with its urban grit and antique dial. However, this aesthetic is juxtaposed with smooth leather straps and polished stainless steel case to highlight the contrast. The Katar watch on the other hand pays homage to a weapon that’s unique of South Asia and characteristic of Indian daggers. The katar is a kind of push dagger from India that’s identifiable by its H-shaped horizontal hand grip. These were typically used for close range hand combat back in the time of medieval Indian empires. The Katar watch features a distinctive polished steel clamp on the crown (also acts as a window to the date display) to represent the blade of the katar. Large hour markers and the brand’s distinctive logo at 12 o’clock complete the look.
