Keep Your Water (And Your Life) Pure

It’s very easy to fall into the habit of neglecting yourself and taking everything around you for granted because we’re busy trying to strike a balance with work, friends, partner, family, hobbies and pretty much everything else. We don’t stop to smell the roses (even though it’s so rare to just see one pop out of nowhere in our concrete jungle), to say thank you to someone who holds the door open for you or to even appreciate the 11 months of haze- less air we enjoy every year. Another thing that is often overlooked is the importance of clean water. Sure, we can drink straight from the tap but you could take it further with the OSIM uPure 2 Water Purifier. The unique 4-step purification process removes almost all of the known bacteria in tap water to give you 99.99% pure, clean water every day (the bacteria reduction performance test is in compliance with the Japan Water Purifier Association Voluntary Standards for Water Purifiers). The preliminary filter removes large suspended particles like sediments and rusts while high grade granular activated carbon removes chlorine and odour. The hollow filament membrance traps microscopic stains, red dust, coliform bacilli, bacteria and protozoa and finally, the mesh filter acts as the last assurance for safer, cleaner water.
OSIM uPure 2, $139. Available at all OSIM stores. From now till 31 January, purchase OSIM’s Wellness Set which comprises of the uPure 2 and uMist Dream (U.P. $99.90) for $188.

Singapore, You Can Now Netflix & Chill

…not like you couldn’t before, it’s just more official now and you don’t have to go around sneaking around using VPN and all that jazz. Co-founder and Chief Executive Reed Hastings just announced at this year’s CES that they’ll be making their service available to more than 130 countries around the world (including Singapore, of course) today. As he puts it, it’s the “birth of a new global Internet TV network”. We’ve waited long enough for this, and we can finally say goodbye to our VPNs. For those who are still perplexed, Netflix streams original series like Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Orange Is The New Black and Sense8, along with a catalog of licensed TV shows and movies for a monthly flat fee. 2016 will see 31 new and returning original series, 24 original feature films and documentaries and a whole range of stand-up comedy. The best thing about it is that you’ll be able to watch it on pretty much any device that has an Internet connection – even game consoles. And they’re available in high-definition with Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound (some even in Ultra HD 4K!)
There are three different plans for you to choose from – the basic ($10.98), standard ($13.98) and premium ($16.98) services. The main differences across the three are basically the quality that’s available to you (standard definition, HD or Ultra HD) and the number of devices you can stream shows at the same time. They even throw in a free month for you to try it out.
Oh, and if you’ve previously subscribed the the US Netflix service via VPN, you can continue to do so on the same account without it now. Hoorah. Check out some of the shows that’ll be made available to you.

The Cherry Leather Watch We Need

Casio just released one beauty of a watch – we’ll go ahead and call the cherry coloured version from the new SHEEN Vitamin collection of analogue timepieces the watch to have for spring. The deep pink tone of the leather strap is a perfect match to rose gold case and see-through dial: unabashedly feminine, but still bold enough to be the focus of attention of your outfit.

The cherry colour is available in a limited edition set that also includes a beige leather strap, so you’ll always have the option of wearing switching to a more neutral option. The rest of the SHEEN Vitamin range features eye-catching candy tones like a bright cobalt, orange and yellow, as well as a failsafe white. The hour markers on each version have accents that match the colour of the strap, surrounding a dial that has a sprinkling of Swarovski crystals. A see-through dial is always an elegant way to make a watch stand out; and this collection definitely does exactly that.

Watches That Will Make You Stand Out In The Dark

Don’t you just love fashion; the whole mish-mash of fabrics and textiles, all put together harmoniously to create something wearable? It’s such a highly debatable topic, especially with so many opinionated people in the industry. There are rules and guidelines that brands “need”, or are supposed to follow. But then again, the best ones create their own. If you think about it, you can pretty much use any kind of fabrics and textiles to create clothes. For example, Pharrell Williams with the denim made from recycled ocean plastic, COS’s women’s SS16 accessories made of compressed recycled denim or even using 3D printing machine to create clothes and accessories. For adidas Originals, they’ve opted to use reflective materials for their new “Reflective Pack” collection of watches. Just shine a bit of light on the timepiece and watch it sparkle in the dark, just like those reflective panels you see on the roads. The brand has grown from being just an iconic sports wear brand to being a go-to brand for streetwear apparel ranging from sneakers, sweatpants and jackets to accessories like bucket hats, bags and watches. adidas Originals taps into their strong sport heritage to create a modern collection that’s keeping up with the times. Featuring classic silhouettes that bear a monochrome palette with reflective materials across its dials, straps and pretty much everything else, these watches are bound to become a talking point.
adidas Originals “Reflective Pack” watches, $180-$215. Available at adidas Originals and Performance stores (Pacific Plaza #01-09 & The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands #B1-53-55). adidas.com.sg

Turbo-Charge Your Foundation

When the Color Me makeup applicator, brainchild of former Benefit and Urban Decay makeup artist Eric Jimenez, launched last year, it really was the cool new thing in makeup. With it, we could apply foundation with a pulsing applicator that blended makeup seamlessly and in record time; suddenly, using brushes and fingers could no longer compare.
And now, to give regular users even more access to the kind of tools makeup pros have, Color Me has launched the Pro Edition of its makeup applicator. This one comes turbo-charged, which means makeup goes on flawlessly  in an even shorter time. Just like how makeup artists often use finger-tapping motions to blend foundation and concealer, this applicator pulses at a rate of 250 taps a second to allow your makeup to blend in record time (and we really mean record time). Comparing this Pro Edition to the original Color Me, we could feel that the Pro Edition is more powerful, which is good for higher and therefore longer-lasting coverage.

Similar to the original, the Color Me Pro Edition comes with two sponges included. Both are the Universal Sponges, which can be used for applying liquid or powder foundations, BB or CC creams. Just start from the cheek and go outwards towards the hairline and jawline, moving the applicator in gentle, sweeping motions – there’s no need to rub or press hard, as the applicator’s definitely powerful enough to give you the coverage you want.

Upsize This

There’s a new wave of active lifestyle that’s hit Singapore in recent years. Sure, people have been working hard to balance their work and personal lives, while staying healthy (and looking good) at the same time; swimming, running, gymming… the usuals. But like the new Star Wars film, there has been an awakening. A new form of physical exercise originating from India has caught on with Singaporeans – yoga. While yoga studios have always been around (though more have been popping up as of late), many have taken to this new age practice for various reasons – to keep fit, to meditate or to make friends at yoga classes (just kidding). Many familiar faces have adopted and continually advocate this healthy lifestyle, like Sara Wee, Sandra Riley Tang and even our very own NYLON cover girl, Liv Lo. And as with any kind of activity you partake in, comes the gear you should be picking up. Besides the usual yoga mats and clothing you’ll need, it’s also important that you arm yourself with a watch to help you keep track of time (leave your phone in the locker so you don’t distract yourself from working out).
PUMA Time watches embody the soul of an active athlete and adventurer by combining sporty elements with its bold and whimsical designs. More than just a timekeeping device, these watches are the perfect finishing touch to your active wear, especially one that’s as big as the PUMA ULTRASIZE watches. This collection strikes the perfect balance between form and function in every technical and design aspect to best express the brand’s cool and relaxed style. These watches were such a huge success when it was first launched. The ULTRASIZE watches feature elements like a racing-inspired left-hand crown to complement the 50mm sleek matte metal case, a new 3D cut-out dial with a stylised “3” digit and PUMA’s iconic logo sitting at the 12 o’clock marker. The watch comes with a comfortable silicon strap in numerous colourways.
PUMA Time ULTRASIZE, $185. Available at the CLOUT 9 Store (Wheelock Place #02-09 & Capitol Piazza #B1-32). Follow them on Instagram (@clout9sg) and be entitled to 15% off at Clout9 stores when you mention “NylonSG” (valid from 4 to 17 January).
