Let us entertain you with our tv issue, as Gossip Girl alumni Taylor Momsen’s our cover girl for the month – and surprise, we learn that the frontwoman of “The Pretty Reckless” is really a kohl-lined rock chick at heart. We also nail down the fashion styles of tv’s hottest girls – be it 90201, Suits, New Girl and Gossip Girl – as well as catch up on what’s happening onĀ Arrested Development’s much-awaited fourth season, and talk to the lads and ladies from HBO’s hit series, Game of Thrones. The spotlight’s also on the beautiful colourways of Marc Jacob’s S/S collection, Issey Miyake’s pleated garments and bao bao, plus, a behind-the-scenes look at Make Up For Ever’s HD makeup.
#11 Anniversary
Happy Birthday Nylon Singapore! It’s our first anniversary, and so much has happened. MTV’s newest VJ, the bubbly Hanli Hoefer, flexes her modelling chops as our gorgeous cover girl. We talk to her about the switch from modelling to being a VJ, and her new show premiering in April. We also check in with our 10 previous Nylon Singapore Cover Girls to see what they’ve been up to recently. Marvin Scott Jarrett’s fashion spread inspires us to dress only in monochrome for all the parties we’ll be attending. Come celebrate with us!
#10 The Korean Issue
Wow, fantastic baby! The Korean Wave is upon us, and this issue pays homage to all the things we love about South Korea. We put Tasha Low, member of multinational k-pop group SKarf on the cover – she’s one of two group members who hail from Singapore. We talk to the group about how they started out, their challenges and their dreams. Also on our radar, we have 16 other k-pop artistes including 2AM, 2NE1, B2ST, Big Bang, BoA, Brown Eyed Girls and Girl’s Generation. We put Korean designers in the spotlight for our feature on Seoul Fashion Week Spring/Summer, and review loads of Korean skincare and makeup products. And of course, our writer travels to Seoul and writes about it in our en route section. It’s all you need to know.
#09 Beauty
It’s our Beauty issue! Doll-like Tsubasa Masuwaka is on the cover, whom you may recognise from the famous Dolly Wink Eyelashes, which she founded – this lass is an entrepreneurial beauty after our own hearts. Well, which girl doesn’t want to update her beauty knowledge? This issue, we display Spring/Summer beauty trends for lips, nails and hair, and show you 176 ways to dress up your face. Francois Nars and Malin + Goetz are our private icons, and we talk about the Nicki Minaj for M.A.C Viva Glam collection.
#08 Party People
The statuesque beauties of Posso the DJ, Marylouise Pels and Vanessa Giovacchini, look every bit like professional models on the cover of our Dec/Jan Party People issue. Trained to make people shimmy from behind the decks, they talk about their career in the DJ circuit. Alongside the feature on the electronica duo is a comprehensive guide to the electronic music scene in Singapore, spanning past to present. This issue, we also feature gift ideas for everyone, and charity ventures by The Body Shop and Moschino. It’s the season of giving, after all.
#07 The Cult Issue
Hot, edgy, and woman of refreshing candour, Rosalyn Lee kills it on the cover of our 7th issue on all things Cult. Our feature on 67 cult beauty essentials is for all the beauty addicts out there – you won’t want to miss these. We also curate some recent hot collaborations with cult names in fashion – Maison Martin Margiela x H&M and J.W Anderson for Topshop; and beauty – James Boehmer for NARS and James Gager for M.A.C.
#06 Turning Japanese
Arigato! Our 6th issue centres on all things Japanese, and who else to grace the cover but the stunning Kiko Mizuhara. Girlishness personified, extremely kawaii and slightly quirky, she does represent Japan to a tee (even though she is of mixed descent). See her exclusive shoot with fellow model Sara Mary, shot by Marvin Scott Jarrett. This issue, we also give you reasons to turn Japanese with our favourite makeup brands, musicians, and designers from the land of the rising sun. Featuring Aya Sekine, Kazz, Bathing Ape, Maison Takuya, Franc Franc and Issey Miyake, to name a few.
#05 Here Comes The Fall
Model and pocket rocket Ase Wang looks smashing on the cover of our 5th issue, centred on arguably the best season there is. We feature great Fall fashion collaborations like Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama and Issey Miyake x Satoshi Wada, and highlight five key makeup trends fitting for the season.
#04 Wearing the Blues
For our 4th issue, we warm up to the mysterious Rui En, who shows us that there’s more to her Ice Queen image. It’s all about the Blues this issue – we centre on the denim styles on the streets of Asia, and feature cult brands like G-star Raw, A.P.C, Ksubi, and Naked & Famous. We also look at standout Fall/Winter runway looks, from Chanel and Louis Vuitton to Acne and Alexander Wang.
#03 Music
DJ, model and booking manager of Zouk, Emi Matsushima, is a fitting cover girl for our June/July music-themed issue. This one’s jam-packed with music features, including a 16-page spread on the Singapore music scene from past to present. We also feature the hottest names in international music the likes of Adele, Bjƶrk, Kimbra, Amy Winehouse, SNSD, Iggy Pop, and Beth Ditto. Oh, and we had a chat with Marvin Scott Jarrett, who was here for a weekend.
#02 Art & Design
The 2nd issue features fresh faced winner of Elite Model Look 2011, Fiona Fussi on the cover – we talk to her about her fame, age and success.
