It’s that time of the year again where the world gets excited about Apple’s latest unveiling of its newest products at its annual September Keynote, and this year, the line-up is an exciting one with the unveiling of the iPhone Air, Apple’s very first thin and light design iPhone. Here’s a closer look at each product announced at the Keynote.
iPhone Air
If you’ve ever wanted a thin iPhone, your wish has been granted with the all-new iPhone Air. Measuring at just 5.6mm, the iPhone Air is incredibly light with a large, stunning display and is crafted using a grade 5 titanium frame that is precision-milled on both sides to house the cameras, speaker and Apple silicon, and Ceramic Shield to protect the front and back of the device.
Unlike other iPhones, this iPhone Air is powered by the powerhouse A19 Apple silicon, delivering the fastest CPU in any smartphone, and features N1, a new Apple-designed wireless networking chip that improves the overall performance and reliability of features like Personal Hotspot and AirDrop.
The 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display features ProMotion, with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz for smooth scrolling and stunning graphics, as well as an Always-On display that efficiently adjusts down to 1Hz or 3,000 nits peak when you’re outdoors (the highest ever on an iPhone!).
In spite of its thin build, the iPhone Air comes with a powerful camera system which includes the all-new Centre Stage front camera; it’s first square front camera sensor on an iPhone that offers a wide field of view to capture photos of up to 18MP in portrait or landscape, even while holding the iPhone vertically.
On the rear, you’ll find the 48MP Fusion camera system that enables the popular 28mm and 35mm focal lengths with its custom main lens allowing for optical-quality 2x telephoto, which can capture more lifelike details and colour, thanks to the support of an updated Photonic Engine.
The iPhone Air also enables next-generation portraits with Focus control, automatically capturing depth information so that you can turn your photos into portraits later in the Photos app.
You don’t need to worry about running out of juice too with the iPhone Air as it is able to deliver all-day battery life while tapping on the new Adaptive Power Mode in iOS 26 to learn your typical battery consumption to help you anticipate when you might run low on battery.
The Apple iPhone Air is priced from $1,599 and will be available starting 19 September. Pre-orders will begin at 8pm on 12 September.
iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max
We all know that the Pro models have always showcased the best of an iPhone and now, Apple is upping its game with its all-new iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, dubbing them the most powerful and advanced Pro models ever.
Featuring a striking new design, both models are built with an Apple-designed vapour chamber and powered by the A19 Pro, which delivers up to 40 percent better sustained performance than the previous generation.
The new internal architecture of the Apple-designed vapour chamber helps to enhance heat dissipation and performance using deionised water that is sealed inside the vapour chamber which is laser-welded into the aluminium chassis to move heat away from the powerful A19 Pro so that it can operate at even higher performance levels.
Offering the best-ever camera systems with higher-resolution sensors in the front and back, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max feature three 48MP Fusion cameras to capture sharper and more detailed images, including a new 48MP Telephoto camera with a 56 percent larger sensor to improve sharpness in bright light and bring more detail to darker shots.
The new 4x optical zoom at 100mm offers a classic lens for portrait photos while the 8x optical zoom at 200mm, the longest ever on an iPhone, provides longer reach and more creative choice.
Digital zoom also increases up to 40x for photos, giving you more options to customise your photos with next-generation Photographic Styles, including a new Bright style that brightens skin tones and applies a pop of vibrance across the image.
The Apple iPhone 17 Pro is priced from $1,749 and the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max is priced from $1,899. Both will be available starting 19 September. Pre-orders begin at 8pm on 12 September.
iPhone 17
Those looking to upgrade to the iPhone 17 can expect to find the all-new Centre Stage front camera alongside 48MP rear cameras (for the first time), which includes a 48MP Fusion Main camera that shoots sharp detail and comes with an integrated optical-quality 2x Telephoto.
The new 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide, on the other hand, captures up to 4x the resolution compared to the previous generation so that you can get even more detail for uniquely framed, wider-angle shots or macro photography.
Showcasing a sleek contoured edge design, the iPhone 17 now comes with thinner borders and a stunning Super Retina XDR display that features ProMotion and the Always-on display, and uses Ceramic Shield 2 to make it 3x better scratch resistance and have improved anti-reflection to reduce glare.
With the efficiency of the A19 chip, the iPhone 17 lets you enjoy all-day battery life and up to 30 hours of video playback, which is 8 hours more than the previous generation.
