A Shop For Killers 2 review: Back in business with more thrills and action

By Jasmine Ong

After an exciting, nail-biting first season, the much-loved A Shop For Killers returns with its second season, bringing with it more tense action as Jeong Ji-an (played by Kim Hye Jun) now runs the online shop, Murthehelp, alongside her uncle Jeong Jin-man (played by Lee Dong Wook).

When we last left Ji-an, she had overcome an intense battle for her life and was, in a way, rewarded with a reunion with her uncle, who was revealed to have faked his death and was still very much alive. Even though I had expected Season 2 to pick up where it left off, I liked that the first episode showed us what Jin-man had been up to since he “died”.

As we were only privy to what happened in the aftermath of his death, this insight helped to fill in the blanks while maintaining this continuity with what Ji-an was facing on her end. In many ways, it felt like I could finally see two sides of the coin and how things aligned the way they did so effectively.

The first episode also tied up the events of season 1 nicely, without having to overplay montages or dialogues to make you remember what happened previously.

Of course, what is a new season without more enemies at play? After being introduced to the ruthless mercenary group Babylon in season 1, this season brings with it more danger and new antagonists that will essentially mean that the uncle and niece would yet again face new threats, and possibly uncover an even larger conspiracy.

Despite only being two episodes in, I’m already beginning to feel like this is going to be quite an explosive series, that is not only going to keep you on the edge of your seat, but also change the way you look at Korean action dramas.

If the beautifully choreographed action scenes and next level camera work from the first episode is anything to go by, I cannot wait to see how they would up the ante further with the continuing episodes of season 2.
