Muji Moves Onto your Screen: The Minimalist Empire Opens Its Own Online Store

More than 10,000 products, a launch discount and no queue for the fitting room.

Muji has spent years teaching Singapore to love the quiet life: the unbranded stationery, the oatmeal-toned linen, the storage boxes that make a bedroom look like it has its life together. Until now, shopping it from the sofa mostly meant going through third-party marketplaces. From this month, the brand has its own official online store.

The store will carry more than 10,000 products across clothing, household essentials, furniture, stationery and more, open around the clock, with fuller product details online to help shoppers compare. The pitch is convenience rather than reinvention; it’s meant to sit beside the physical shops, not replace them.

The launch deals worth knowing about

New users get to enjoy 10% off their first order with a coupon code, plus there are separate online promotions that run to as much as 40% off on selected furniture, including wooden sofas, acacia dining tables and aluminium stools, chairs and tables, and clear storage boxes and items from the Combinations Case range (the furniture markdowns are the ones to watch. A sofa is the sort of purchase easier to make with a discount code than with a sales assistant hovering).

Delivery is free from S$50, and eligible purchases earn MUJI mile for MUJI passport app users once your account is linked. Do note to link your MUJI passport account before checkout so the miles register.

Muji is also running limited promotions from 9 – 18 October at both retail stores and online, and there are exclusive offers just for the online store. Readers can check out more on the Muji website.

What to put in the basket

Muji’s fans tend to have strong opinions, and past coverage points to a few reliable favourites.

For the sweet tooth: One food writer called the chocolate-coated strawberries, about S$5.30 at the time, the top-selling snack in Singapore. Chocolate-studded peanuts (around S$4.90) also drew a loyal following. They’re the easiest way to bring your delivery over the S$50 free-shipping line.

For the bedroom: One roundup of underrated finds highlighted the body pillow with cotton jersey cover and the cleansing balm. Another guide pointed to the range of bed frames, mattresses and cotton bedsheets, and suggested the cooling sheets suit Singapore’s humidity. Bedding is an easy category to buy online once you know the size you need.

For the sitting room: The beads sofa, Muji’s take on the beanbag with a fine-bead cushion that supports the neck and waist, remains a perennial favourite, and its washable covers are priced separately.

For the desk: The steel power strip storage box, which hides cables and extension leads, is a cheap fix for the tangle behind most home offices.

For the wardrobe: the jersey tees carried at the Tampines reopening were a headline item there, so basics like these are a natural online buy. Muji’s clothing is designed around neutral colours and clean lines, which makes it easy to mix and match without seeing it in person.

Our recommendations for a first order

  1. Start with storage. With up to 40% off on selected clear containers and Combinations Case items, it’s the lowest-risk way to test the store.
  2. Add one consumable you’ll actually use, such as a snack or skincare item, to reach free delivery.
  3. Save the sofa or dining table for a measured decision. Check the dimensions against your floor plan first, and remember that the launch discount on furniture comes from the special online prices.
  4. Link your Passport account before checkout so the miles register.
