A photowalk in Shanghai to discover the new vivo X300 Pro co-engineered with Zeiss — has the partnership redefined mobile photography again?

vivo celebrated the launch of their flagship X300 series in Shanghai, and NYLON was invited to discover the latest advancements in the X300 Pro through a tour of the bustling and historic city.

For years, we’ve seen our smartphones as not just a communication tool, but as a camera and portable studio. And in this regard, the vivo X-series has always been the one to watch. According to the brand, the new X300 Pro isn’t just an upgrade; it’s a confident stride into a future where pocket-sized tech dictates creative output — and the X300 Pro does so with stunning elegance.

Sporting a svelte, 7.99mm profile and Coral Velvet Glass Technique finishes in classic shades like Black and Brown, the X300 Pro feels truly high quality. It’s lightweight, has an expansive 6.78-inch, 120Hz display, and uses MediaTek’s latest Dimensity 9500 flagship chipset, making it super speedy and efficient.

The Zeiss Optics Magic

The heart of the X300 Pro experience lies, unsurprisingly, in its camera array, built upon the long-running partnership with legendary optics maker, Zeiss. This year, they’ve gone all-in on range and clarity. The hero here is a robust 200MP telephoto periscope lens, which, combined with the groundbreaking Zeiss 2.35x Teleconverter accessory, promises zoom capabilities that truly redefine mobile photography. Paired with the teleconverter, the lens can reach a staggering 5400mm.

This means you can get candid street shots from across buildings, high-detail portrait shots in dimly lit restaurants (there’s also an upgraded Adaptive Zoom Flash), and incredible landscapes where you can zoom into details in post. There’s also what vivo calls the “gimbal-grade” LYT-828 sensor, jointly defined by vivo and Sony, and the optical module paired with this sensor will give you buttery smooth video clips, making shaky footage a thing of the past. The addition of a dedicated VS1 pro imaging chip means the post-processing speed is instantaneous, so you spend less time waiting for it to process.

The Professional

The vivo X300 Pro looks set to be the flagship for the professional photographer and discerning tastemaker who’s in-the-know. It’s no doubt a professional device that’s fast, beautiful, and its camera system masterfully captures the world.

Fans of vivo have also been requesting for this series to return to Singapore (the X100 released here in 2024, but the X200 wasn’t available in Singapore); so with the X300 Pro, we anticipate Android users switching from other brands to take advantage of this model’s top-of-the-line camera.
