A tranquil escape awaits at Angsana Laguna Phuket

If there was one way to enjoy a getaway in Phuket, Angsana Laguna Phuket might just be the key for to make the trip perfect.

Located at the heart of Laguna Phuket, Angsana Laguna Phuket is surrounded by tranquil lagoons, offering direct access to the powdery white sands of Bang Tao Beach while providing a variety of food options and activities within the resort, including the 300-metre-long free-form pool — the longest pool on the island!

The rooms in the resort offer a variety of views from the windows, including the lagoon and ocean views, and even provide immediate pool or lagoon access for some of these rooms.

Upon entering the resort, I was blown away by just how massive Angsana Laguna Phuket was, especially when we had to be brought by buggies to our rooms. It definitely made for a change of scenery and a brief relief from having to walk and lug my suitcase to the room, which was situated deep within the resort.

Unlike SAii, Angsana Laguna Phuket did have a little bit of a more dated traditional design, which I felt, lent to the authenticity of a Thailand resort. I felt that the architecture gave it a bit of a character and didn’t feel as conformed to modern design as some of the newer built resorts.

For my stay, I stayed at the Angsana One Bedroom Loft, which is a two-storey loft facing the lagoon. Spanning 88 sqm, the loft room included a private terrace with sun loungers, a king-sized bed on the second floor, and an open-air rain shower.

When entering the room, I was surprised to find just how massive the loft was. Even though the room was ideally fit for a couple or a family with small children, this didn’t feel like it was going to be cramped even if you decided to stay in the loft with 3 full-grown adults.

My only qualm with the upstairs-downstairs concept of the room was the flight of stairs which offered no easy way to carry my luggage up to the second floor where the bed was. I had a small cabin luggage with me but I couldn’t imagine how it would be if I had a larger suitcase.

Despite that, the second floor of the loft offered a cosy home-away-from-home, which had a balcony that overlooked the lagoon and a big toilet that provided an indoor shower and an outdoor rain shower.

I would have very much liked to enjoy some of the outdoor experiences of the loft but unfortunately, due to the balmy weather and frequent rain showers, it proved a little tricky so I could only enjoy the views I had from inside the loft.

Food at Angsana Laguna Phuket

During my stay, I tried out two of the restaurants within the resort namely Azzurra Restaurant and Seafood Market.

Azzurra is an Italian restaurant that is facing Bang Tao Beach and features handmade pastas, wood-fired pizzas and regional dishes inspired by coastal Italy. As a huge Italian food fan, this was a bonus for me.

While it may not be comparable to some of the Italian restaurants that I’ve been to, I’d have to concede that the Tonnarelli Carbonara was probably one of the good ones I’ve tried so far. Even though I’m not into creamy pastas, I like that the carbonara wasn’t too heavy and didn’t feel as rich, giving me enough room for dessert. I also like that they swapped out the typical bacon for sautéed pork cheek which elevated the dish.

Over at Seafood Market, what you’ll get is a unique dining experience that allows you to pick out your own seafood to be cooked in whatever way you can imagine. So, if you were looking for baked lobster, tom yum seafood or even stir-fried prawns, Seafood Market is able to make that dish a reality.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t much of a seafood fan so I opted to go with the menu-based items instead. However, I still managed to try a bit of the imaginative dishes that others in my group ordered, and even accompany them during their selection process, which was a truly fun experience.

Angsana Spa

As I get older, I realised just how much I’ve come to adore spa experiences. So, when it came time to try the award-winning Angsana Spa, you could say I was a lot more excited than usual.

For my massage, I opted for the Angsana body massage which had been created exclusively for Angsana Spa and works on the body’s key pressure points to strengthen the inner “qi” to help promote concentration and rejuvenation.

Compared to the spa experience I had at SAii, I felt that Angsana Spa scored higher for me in their techniques which really helped to address the knots I had in my shoulder area. I almost felt like a dough getting well kneaded in areas that were aching and especially sore (due to my bad posture while working). The masseuse was also very attentive; taking the initiative to adjust her pressure when she could feel me tense up from the pain.

Everything from the setting of the rooms to the duration of the massage was top-tier, including the snacks at the end of the session, making this quite possibly my favourite spa experience ever.
