Apple unveils next generation of Apple Intelligence and software improvements at WWDC 2026

Recently announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2026, Apple has unveiled its upcoming software releases that is set to deliver the next generation of Apple Intelligence, with an introduction to Siri AI, an entirely new version of Siri that is said to be profoundly more intelligent, knowledgable, and capable.

Uniquely designed to protect your privacy, the next generation of Apple Intelligence powers Siri AI and brings helpful new features that you can rely on every day for productivity.

Siri AI is an entirely new version of Siri that is deeply integrated into iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro, which draws on personal context that understands to search across messages, emails, photos, and more, so as to get things done across apps systemwide.

It is also able to answer questions related to the content on your screen, or go out to the web to get up-to-date information using broad world knowledge in order to generate a helpful answer. With the introduction of a dedicated Siri app, you will also be able to revisit a past conversation or kick off a new one while using iCloud to privately sync conversational history across your Apple devices.

In addition to Siri AI, the next generation of Apple Intelligence brings new features in apps across the system to simplify the way you do things every day, such as editing images in Photos, browsing multiple tabs in Safari, expressing your creativity in Playground, and communicating in Messages and Mail.

New Parental Controls

It can be a little tricky for parents when it comes to managing how their children use their devices and Apple is here to help with that by giving parents the ability to enable age-appropriate protections across the system by setting up a child account.

Together with Setup Assistant, parents choose exactly which apps to make available while staying in control over what gets added over time. Alongside communication safety features, parents can also require approval for each new contact their child connects with and enable automatic interventions if explicit or violent content is shared.

Find it hard to limit the amount of time your child spends doomscrolling? Apple has created new tools aimed at helping to build healthier screen time habits so that parents can easily set daily total time allowances across Entertainment, Games, and Social Media apps, following a daily time allowance recommendation based on guidance from leading clinical and child development experts.

Schedules will help parents to manage which apps their children have access to at different points in the day, while the redesigned Screen Time becomes more intuitive for parents, offering an at-a-glance view of their children’s average device usage and top apps.

More Responsive and Reliable Experiences Across Software Platforms

Across platforms, improvements will be implemented to help push key system capabilities forward so that your everyday tasks will feel faster, smoother, and more enjoyable. This includes iPhone and iPad apps launching up to 30% faster, photos loading up to 70% faster after they are taken, and AirDrop transfer happening 80% faster.

Moving between cellular and Wi-Fi networks is about to become more seamless than ever too, alongside browsing and transferring files five times faster between external drives and iPad. The search experience in Spotlight, Photos and Mail has also been rebuilt to make it more stable and efficient to help you find exactly what you are looking for.

Additionally, refinements to the software design will help to deliver an even more focused and approachable experience across apps and platforms. Expect to see a new slider in Settings that gives you the option to personalise Liquid Glass, app icons updated to be sharper and more defined, and a more uniform toolbar across the top of apps, edge-to-edge sidebars and coloured sidebar icons for Mac.

AirPods users can also look forward to the ability to enjoy custom EQ to further personalise how their AirPods sound, and together with an expanded Apple GymKit functionality, AirPods Pro 3 users can now be able to sync their heart rate data through iPhone while enjoying incredible audio quality.

The new software features will be available as a free software update this Fall. It is available for testing today through the Apple Developer Program and a public beta will be available through the Apple Beta Software Program next month.
