The Athleisure Accessories that take you stylishly from the Gym to the Mall, feat. Becca Ten at Plaza Singapura

Singapore’s weather has been insufferably hot (and wet). For months we’ve skipped over jackets and cardigans in favour of lighter pieces — and athleisure fits right in with our need to keep cool and stay comfortable, while being stylish, of course. We’ve picked out our favourite workout style accessories, which are modelled here by Becca, with everything sourced and photographed on location at Plaza Singapura; including pieces from popular brands like ASICS, Uniqlo, Muji, Ray-Ban, ORIS, Garmin, Samsung, and more. Take a trip down to the mall, get inspired, and add these pieces to your daily wear.

opens 10am-10pm

It was a rainy day, so we headed into the mall and started our shoot at Muji Cafe&Meal (#01-10 to 17). The cafe opens at 1130am and gets crowded really quickly. If you plan to have lunch here (and you should, everything’s delicious), go early and try a refreshing Iced Matcha Latte like Becca.

Becca holds the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 phone that’s just perfect for a lifestyle on-the-go. It’s compact and easy to use. On her wrist is the ORIS Aquis Date watch that has a unique face made from recycled seashells. This watch is water-resistant up to 300m and has a scratch-proof sapphire crystal glass that will take the brunt of everyday wear.

Featured with Becca:
—Muji Iced Matcha Latte, $6.50
—SAMSUNG Galaxy Z Flip5 smartphone, from $1,498
—ORIS Aquis Date watch, $3,200

Our best moment of the day was when we paid a visit to the Gashapon Bandai Official Shop (#03-05). This outlet has 224 machines featuring collectibles from One Piece, Saint Seiya, Gundam, Demon Slayer, Crayon Shin-Chan and of course, Pokemon!

This edition is made with comfortable soft touch materials, a 4D GUIDANCE SYSTEM™ that helps provide adaptive stability, a midsole with FF BLAST™ PLUS ECO cushioning, a 4mm stack height increase, and approximately 20% bio-based content. It’s bouncy and comfy, and this colourway will match any outfit you throw at it.

Also recently launched is the Garmin Venu 3 series of smartwatches (above left). These watches have a new advanced GPS system, and aim to improve sleep quality with the Sleep Coach feature. Sleep Coach automatically tracks sleep and nap times, and recommends the optimal duration and timings for the best quality sleep ever. Other functions include Meditation activity, Wheelchair mode, Morning report and built-in speaker and microphone for calls. On the right is the Garmin Vivomove Trend in Peach/Gold ($439) that will also help you get to know your body better by keeping an eye on stress, sleep, energy levels and more (through the Garmin Connect App).

The New INSTAX Pal™ Is A Fun-Sized Instant Camera That Fits Into Your Palm

Cute, fun-sized, and nailing that trendy Y2K aesthetic, the INSTAX Pal™ is the newest member of Fujifilm’s INSTAX series, and very younger sibling-coded. This is a round, palm-top sized camera that allows users, both young and old, to take photos anytime and anywhere, and will be available from October in five poppin’ colours.

We’d consider it more a digital model though as it’s “instant” only in how it prioritises quick snaps that capture the moment; the reality of a camera this small is that, to make the brand’s INSTAX mini credit card-sized prints, it needs to be paired with a printer. The INSTAX Pal, therefore, is sold in a bundle that includes the INSTAX mini Link 2 smartphone printer.

That said, this allows more flexibility when it comes to shooting, and definitely accounts for its convenient size. Each unit is equipped with a wide-angle lens and a multifunction ring accessory that can be used as either a viewfinder or camera stand.

You may photograph in Standard mode by pressing the shutter button on the rear panel; a Remote mode that connects the camera to a smartphone and dedicated app via Bluetooth; and Interval mode, which takes photos continuously at a three-second interval. Users can also opt between mini, SQUARE and WIDE formats when taking pictures, for greater versatility when capturing key moments.

CUT by Wolfgang Puck Has A New Menu Of Singapore-Exclusive Seafood Dishes

The world-renowned Michelin-starred restaurant CUT by Wolfgang Puck has just updated its menu. After 13 amazing years at Marina Bay Sands where they’ve made a mark for excellent steak offerings, CUT is ready to venture beyond meats and into the realm of seafood, particularly choice selections such as sustainably-sourced New Zealand oysters, and abalones handpicked by haenyeo divers in Jeju Island.

Foodies acquainted with the likes of culinary shows Chef’s Table and The Bear will know that this isn’t any ordinary undertaking — CUT, therefore, welcomes only the best of the best, with a seasonal showcase of premium ingredients sourced from around the world. Other than the two items mentioned above, we’re also privy to sweet and supersized Alaskan king crabs, and razor clams caught from the deep seas of Scotland, presented as a bountiful display at the front of house so they greet guests upon arrival. This is similar to concepts in CUT Washington DC and Vegas, as well as Spago Maui.

Executive Chef Greg Bess, Chef Wolfgang Puck and his son Byron Lazaroff-Puck.

“It has been more than 13 years since CUT by Wolfgang Puck has called Marina Bay Sands home and delighted diners in Singapore and the region at this iconic landmark. The introduction of the seasonal showcase and the new menu signifies an evolution of our well-loved steak restaurant and how we are continuously looking for ways to celebrate great cuisine and service,” said Chef Wolfgang Puck.

As for what’s on the menu, we’ve got more than 10 new seafood dishes, curated exclusively for CUT by Wolfgang Puck at Marina Bay Sands, by Executive Chef Greg Bess and his team. These include: a beautiful Tsarkaya oyster duo of citrusy and refreshing flavours that complement the NZ-origin shellfish; an Alaskan king crab leg gratin topped with avocado and exquisite Kaluga caviar and yuzu kosho; as well as one that celebrates the ocean’s bounty, with Hokkaido uni, jade abalone and razor clam grilled over binchotan.

See the rest of the dishes below —

Solvil et Titus Joins Forces With Demon Slayer For Limited Edition Watches Based On The Popular Anime Series

The demons ought to be quaking in the presence of this formidable series of watches — a limited edition collaboration that sees Swiss watchmakers Solvil et Titus teaming up with our Demon Slayer heroes for an anime-inspired showdown. The Solvil et Titus x Demon Slayer collection sees 8 timepieces that pay tribute to their journeys of unwavering will and unbreakable bonds, where, on screen, we see them facing up against malevolent demons.

This tie-up with the Japanese anime couldn’t come at a better time as the show has been surging in popularity across the world, mostly because we’ve been inspired by the characters’ incredible determination and mutual trust despite adversity.

In particular, the eight chosen characters featured across the 8 watches include: Tanjiro Kamado, Nezuko Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, Inosuke Hashibira; the trio of Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke; as well as the Hashiras of the Demon Slayer Corps, Tengen Uzui, Muichiro Tokito and Mitsuri Kanroji.

To further honour the collaboration, each watch arrives in sets consisting of a unique flash certificate card bearing its serial number, an exclusive watch box, a limited edition watch cloth, and a travel bag inspired by Nezuko’s iconic wooden box.

The Solvil et Titus x Demon Slayer collection.
A watch travel bag inspired by Nezuko’s wooden box.

Just like the craftsmanship that goes into the team’s Nichirin blades, special attention has been paid to several key watch details to bring to life the motifs of their inspired characters.

The “The Trio Friends” watch, for instance, sees Solvil et Titus’ Saber watch dial in a violet colourway with elements of wisteria, as a nod to their strong will against demons. This is set against a charcoal stainless steel case engraved with the initials of the characters, watch hands in light gold, signature motifs on the inner side of the steel bracelet buckle, and special features on the surface equipped with super luminous processing.

[click on the images below to expand.]

The rest of the stainless steel watches carry on in a similar vein, where keen-eyed fans will certainly spot Tanjiro’s checked coat referenced on his corresponding watch’s black stainless steel case; Inosuke’s boar mask against a midnight blue dial; or a thunder motif on the stainless steel bracelet buckle inspired by Zenitsu’s “Thunder Breathing” technique.

For the Tengen and Muichiro designs though, the stainless steel watch cases are paired with leather straps, each printed with the patterns of their swords and lazer-engraved with their silhouettes at the back. Nezuko’s and Mitsuri’s designs, on the other hand, feature watches from the Aspira collection, in light gold and rose gold respectively.

Just Launched: the 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard on Amazon US

In my quest for the clickiest mechanical keyboard I could find online, I came across 8BitDo, an electronics company that designs and manufactures high quality retro bluetooth game controllers. These controllers are widely available on Amazon Singapore, but the keyboard is a new product that is launching this week on Amazon US.

There are two colour combinations available: the “Fami Edition”, which has the colour stylings of the Famicom from the early 1980s; and then there’s the “N Edition”, which takes after the original NES, and this is the keyboard I have on hand now for review.

Above: The box packaging for the 8bitdo retro mechanical keyboard.

Above: Inside the box, there’s the keyboard, USB-C cable, dual super buttons, instruction sheet, and a bunch of stickers.

The retro styling of the keyboard is beautifully on point; the colours are indeed reminiscent of the NES, down to the iconic red “A” and “B” buttons — these are programmable with Windows and Android systems.

Above: The red “A” and “B” keys that are programmable in Windows and Android.

Everything feels mechanical, including the knobs — one for connectivity (Wireless 2.4G or Bluetooth) and the other for Volume.

Above: The layout of the knobs and buttons are intuitive, well placed and out of the way.

What also makes this keyboard extra special are the Dual Super Buttons included in the set. You can connect up to four of these dual buttons and programme them individually. This is all done through 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software V2 that’s releasing soon this month.

Above: Assigning Mapping and Macros to the Dual Super buttons (Photo from 8bitdo’s WEBSITE).

Above: The Dual Super Buttons are huge and very satisfying to press. They can be customised with the stickers included in the box, or you could of course make your own.

Above: There are 4 ports to connect up to 4 dual super buttons. There’s also a magnetic adapter compartment with an included wireless bluetooth USB adapter.

Other special features include Kailh Box White Switches V2, a hot-swappable PCB, and gorgeous dye-sublimation PBT keycaps with MDA-like height.

One big question that I keep seeing on forums when I search for this keyboard is whether it’s compatible with Macs. The short answer is, yes. I’m in fact using it right now with my Mac Studio as I type out this article. It connects and charges with the included USB-C cable, and when unplugged, I can use it with Bluetooth. I can even customise keys using the free Karabiner Elements app; this includes assigning various roles to the Function Keys (eg. launching Mission Control or Spotlight), and even disabling unnecessary keys that get in the way while gaming.

The Ultimate Software V2 app hasn’t been launched at the time of writing this review, but on 8BitDo’s website, any mention of mapping and programming buttons point to only Windows and Android compatibility. But I followed the “Fast Mapping Quick Start Guide” included in the box, and yes! The Dual Super Buttons can be programmed for a Mac! This was such a joyous discovery, and the 8BitDo is now my new favourite keyboard. Best of all, typing on this is a joy; it is fast, accurate and bouncy. But it’s really the sound it makes that will put a smile on your face:

The 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard has a pre-order price of USD99.99, and is available for order on AMAZON.COM.

The RIMOWA x Tiffany & Co. Collaboration — A Jewellery Case, Cabin Suitcase, And Tiffany-Blue Personal

Luxury giants in their respective fields, German luggage brand RIMOWA and esteemed jeweller Tiffany & Co. have joined forces for a few of our favourite things — particularly, stunning Tiffany Blue® accessories meant to accompany us on our round-the-world travels.

The RIMOWA x Tiffany & Co. collection, available here from 26 September, brings together the most iconic hallmarks of each brand, across a RIMOWA x Tiffany & Co. Rock Cut Cabin suitcase, RIMOWA x Tiffany & Co. Jewellery Case and a RIMOWA x Tiffany & Co. Jewellery Personal.

One of the more distinct aesthetic choices would have to be how the aluminium exteriors of the suitcase and jewellery case feature an intricately-patterned ‘Rock Cut’ artwork inspired by the diamond’s multiple facets, a detail that seems to pop off the page against RIMOWA’s classic grooved surface. On the cabin suitcase, we see this paired with interiors, handles, a luggage tag, and wheels in the jewellery brand’s trademarked Tiffany Blue® shade.

CHANEL Beauty Gives Us An Exquisite Équinoxe Makeup Collection For Fall

Sweater weather, falling leaves, and perhaps a pumpkin spice latte or two, these romantic reminders of Fall are joined by CHANEL’s latest Fall-Winter 2023 makeup creations, which aptly capture the transitional season via the limited edition ÉQUINOXE DE CHANEL collection.

The series is an ode to the equinox, particular the moment when the last rays of Summer’s warm sun give way to the dramatic colours of red, orange and ochre, which heralds the beginning of Autumn. Similarly, warm, earthy shades or shimmery coppers reign freely across CHANEL’s makeup, which sees airy loose eyeshadows, equal in both intensity and a subtle satin sheen, and a duo of blushes, all paired with the subtle Rouge Coco Bloom.

The limited edition OMBRE PREMIÈRE LIBRE, $54.

The OMBRE PREMIÈRE LIBRE, for instance, is a new creation, touted as a loose eyeshadow with a fine, airy texture. These give us intense colour and a satin finish ideal for soft makeup looks, and are housed in gradient-effect glass bottles with a built-in sponge-tip applicator for us to make the most of their creamy texture when gliding over skin. There are also six natural, earthy shades to warm up to: a satiny hazelnut brown, deep walnut brown, warm burnt sienna, followed by a luminous, orangey copper, caramelised garnet, and an intense aubergine.

The limited edition DOUCEUR D’ÉQUINOXE, $104.

Elsewhere, these DOUCEUR D’ÉQUINOXE powder blushes, distinguished by an embossed leaf pattern and double C logo, bring that same intense-yet-delicate colour to the cheeks. A muted coral and beige palette energises the complexion, while the rosy beige and mauve combination gives off a soft healthy glow.

The makeup look is complete with either of these six new shades of the ROUGE COCO BLOOM, a hydrating and plumping lipstick that now sees shades of luminous coral, brownish rosewood and sienna. These pair perfectly with two vibrant LE VERNIS nail polish shades; one, a bright orange hue that echoes joyous summer, and two, a red-brown that ushers in Fall.

ROUGE COCO BLOOM, $62, in 6 shades.
The limited edition LE VERNIS, $46.

The Tiffany Lock ROSÉ Edition Is A New Capsule Collection Inspired By The K-Pop Star

Are you as enamoured with the Tiffany Lock collection as we are? If you’re indeed that typa girl, then we’re doing you a favour by telling you about this next capsule collection. Inspired by House ambassador and BLACKPINK star ROSÉ, luxury jewellery house Tiffany & Co. has launched the Tiffany Lock ROSÉ Edition, which sees the contemporary jewellery line offered in four different styles, with 18k rose gold and rare pink sapphires.

These are definitely special alright, as pink sapphires happen to be one of the rarest-coloured gemstones within the precious sapphire family; they’re picked, partially because of their beautiful pink allure, and also because these jewels symbolise love and power.

Tiffany Lock ROSÉ Edition small pendant in 18k rose gold with pink sapphires.

As for the Tiffany Lock collection itself, this a jewellery line that features the timeless House motif of the padlock, depicted via an elegant clasp that swivels up and locks into place. The capsule collection sees a bracelet, small pendant, medium pendant, and a pair of earrings.

See the other pieces here —

Tiffany Lock ROSÉ Edition bracelet in 18k rose gold with pink sapphires.
Tiffany Lock ROSÉ Edition medium earrings in 18k rose gold with pink sapphires.
Tiffany Lock ROSÉ Edition medium pendant in 18k rose gold with pink sapphires.

The Tiffany Lock ROSÉ Edition, now available at the Tiffany & Co. Omotesando store in Toyko, as well as in China, Korea and at The Landmark in New York City. It will be available worldwide from 1 October 2023.

Apple and Hermès continue their collaboration with new faces and technical straps in webbing, knit and rubber

The 2023 Apple Watch Hermès strap collection includes new styles that make reference to iconic design elements from Hermès, while introducing technical elements and materials that make sense for the new Apple Watch Series 9. As expected from both brands, the styles are sleek and practical, and exude quality and luxury across all the designs.

There’s the Briton (above), a knitted band that evokes the aesthetic of an equestrian bridle; the Toile H that features the Toile H motif, and Twill Jump that has a band with an elegant webbing weave (both below).

We particularly love the Kilim, a band that has the intertwined Hs, which is a motif borrowed from Hermès jewellery. This strap is available in a multitude of colours (featured below is the Kaki), and is fully waterproof.

The Clou de selle (below) is perhaps the most classic of the range, with Barénia calfskin bands.

Also for this Apple Watch Hermès collaboration, a new Radial watch face is introduced, and is a reinterpretation of the Cape Cod aesthetic. What’s interesting is that the numerals light up as the hour hand goes past, referencing the stars that guide ships after nightfall.

Apple Watch Hermès is available from 22 september 2023, priced from $1,749 for the watch, and from $499 for the bands. Shop at apple.com and HERMES.COM. See everything below.

OPPO’s ‘Faces of Singapore’ Series: Portraits Of Singaporeans Captured With The OPPO Reno10 Pro+ Smartphone

A packet of tissue paper, nasi lemak, and kopi, these some of the unique objects Singaporeans brought along to a photoshoot that aims to reflect the spirit of our nation, and they couldn’t be more relatable. Indeed, we’ll consider the Faces of Singapore campaign, a worthy initiative by OPPO, an ode to Singapore — made even more impressive when we found out that all 30 portraits were photographed on a smartphone.

Award-winning photographer Ivanho Harlim puts the latest OPPO Reno10 Pro+ smartphone to work, using its Ultra-Clear Portrait Camera System for professional-looking portrait images that capture stunning detail and vivid colours. Smartphone photography is, certainly, in its new era, where we can achieve DSLR-like results at a click of a button, with a device that easily fits into our pockets.

The OPPO Reno10 Pro+.

“We featured a mix of all ages, races, ethnicities, and occupations for Faces of Singapore that can encapsulate the melting pot that is Singapore,” said Dylan Yu, Head of Marketing of OPPO Singapore, on the campaign, while further elaborating on how it coincides with OPPO’s 10th anniversary in Singapore.

The concept of “unity, shared heritage, and values of Singaporeans” is also brought about when looking at how the 30 individuals, dressed in symbolic red-and-white, each brought along items that represented their various passions and what it means to be Singaporean.

Ahead, we hear more from Dylan about the Faces of Singapore campaign, and just how the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ is the ideal smartphone for nailing picture-perfect portraits.

Tiffany Cheong — Commodities Sales Analyst, 25
Izad Razi — Writer / Photographer, 37

Was there any particular visual concept and message you’d like to convey through the Faces of Singapore series?

Dylan: “At the heart of the portraits behind this campaign, is really our show of love — from OPPO to Singapore. This is weaved into the visual concept of our campaign, which is led by national colours of red and white to truly make it all about Singapore.

The main message we want to convey through the portraits is our utmost gratitude to Singaporeans for their love and support for OPPO throughout the years. In return, we will continue to go above and beyond to deliver products that will further enhance your lives — as we have done for the past 10 years — and many more to come.”

How was the experience shooting these portraits with a smartphone?

D: “We had to shoot all 30 portraits in one single day and were working with different personalities who were all not professional models. That meant that communication was very important, and we had to capture them in the most natural setting as much as possible, which was where Ivanho helped a lot.

Moreover, we had to take into consideration that shooting photographs with a mobile phone is different from shooting with a DSLR. Given that the OPPO Reno10 Series was designed with Portrait Expert in mind, we did not face typical smartphone photography challenges. The session proceeded with ease, producing beautiful shots of our featured individuals without compromising on quality.”

Vanessa Tan — Marketing Manager / Content Creator, 29

Do you have a favourite image from the series?

D: “One that left a deep impression was Vanessa Tan who brought the unmistakably Singaporean Kopi to the shoot. As we both work in the marketing field, I felt a connection to her story on what being Singaporean means to her. Her philosophy on building relationships aligns with how OPPO conceptualised the Faces of Singapore campaign to kindle meaningful connections.”

As mentioned by photographer Ivanho, the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ feels like a “DSLR in your pocket” — why do you feel that’s so?

D: “When we think about traditional professional photography, not just the DSLR, we think about the gears and the set-up needed to execute it. Leveraging on the convenience and accessibility that is inherent to smartphones, we wanted to take it to the next level by bringing professional photography to the pockets of users in one simple click.

The result we achieved is a smartphone that feels like a “DSLR in your pocket”.
This is a game changer in how we capture moments in day-to-day life. The Reno10 series unlocks unlimited possibilities in the types of shots that can be taken by the everyday user.”

Was there any particular feature of the phone that surprised you / Ivanho while on set?

D: “Rather than a specific feature, what really surprised Ivanho was the level of clarity he could achieve with the Reno10 series overall. This is what we have intended with the Reno10 series as it is supported by advanced algorithms that can better separate the subject from the background, and even anti-facial distortion algorithms that makes every portrait picture perfect. This made capturing these portraits even more seamless and shooting with the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ came very intuitively and with ease.”

Moon Lim — Florist, 70
Albin Ng — Track Work Engineer, 32

Do you have any tips for shooting portraits with a smartphone?

D: “It’s all about understanding what you have at hand and using it your advantage. Even without added equipment and accessories, you can easily take a cinematic photo or picture-perfect portrait with the Reno10 Pro+.

The key to taking a good photo, especially portrait shots on a smartphone, is understanding how to make full use of the different camera functions.
The Reno10 Pro+, for example, comes with the telephoto portrait camera which allows users to capture photos at 3X optical zoom and to play with shot composition when shooting portraits.

One good example was actually Adele Chan from NYLON Singapore, who snapped stunning shots of Bali’s landscapes with our OPPO Reno10 Pro+. She demonstrated that knowing how to work your smartphone camera really makes a difference in the quality of your shots.”

Nicole Lee — Communications and Community Manager, 29
Shephali Gupta — Housewife / Content Creator, 36

What are some of the features that make the OPPO Reno10 series stand out?

D: “The Reno Series itself has always had a strong legacy of being a Portrait Expert. For the Reno10 series, we continue this legacy in introducing the Ultra-Clear Portrait Camera System, the most significant upgrade in Reno’s history.
It features a triple camera system that touts and impressive Telephoto Portrait Camera, an Ultra-Clear Main, a Selfie Camera, and an Ultra-Wide Camera.

In fact, the telephoto portrait camera on Reno10 Pro+ 5G is 64MP, which is the highest megapixels of any smartphone with a telephoto camera. Backed by this incredible line-up, the Reno10 Pro+ also provides amazing imaging features that includes Pro-Portrait Mode and Pro-Portrait Video to deliver pro-level shots. With all these features, everyone can shoot portraits just like a professional.

Beyond the Reno product line, there’s also OPPO’s Find series where smartphones truly become cream-of-the-crop. The Find series is also where OPPO is really breaking new grounds in challenging the possibilities of what we know of smartphones, such as in form factor. The newest addition of the Find series launched locally saw the first-ever OPPO foldable, the Find N2 Flip, introduced to Singaporeans with much fanfare. And it is through such innovation that we will continue to stand out and excite Singaporeans about OPPO.”

Over the weekend, I went nuts with the Cricut Maker 3 and Hat Press. Now I can’t stop making things.

If you’ve heard of Cricut or own one of the machines, you know how magical (and addictive) it can be. Cricut is a precision cutting machine that is more than just … a cutting machine. Once you get into its app, Cricut Design Space, you’ll discover the incredible number of projects and creative ideas, and definitely find something you would want to make. Cricut brings out the craftiness in all of us, and I spent the weekend with the Cricut Maker 3 and Cricut Hat Press (this is a hot iron made especially for the curvature of caps), and now all I want to do is make stuff with Cricut all week.

For beginners, check out the Cricut Joy Gift bundle, it’s Cricut’s most affordable and compact machine, and this set comes with tools and materials to get you started. I went all out with the Cricut Maker 3, which has the most powerful motor so cuts the fastest, is compatible with Cricut’s Smart Materials (these don’t require placing your materials on the Cricut mat when you load it into the machine), and is able to cut 300+ materials including wool felt, which I love to work with.

Above: This is the Cricut Maker 3 when it’s closed. It looks sleek and minimal (and yes, very much in the shape of a printer).

STICKERS

Since it was the weekend and the kids weren’t at school, I decided to make some sticker sheets for them to decorate their things with. Making and cutting stickers is probably the easiest project you can start with on a Cricut. There are tons of images to work with on Cricut Design Space, or you can upload your own as well.

Above: Check out Cricut’s Printable Vinyl sheets. These can be fed into any standard inkjet printer, then loaded into your Cricut machine for cutting.

Above: This was my work-in-progress in Cricut Design Space. I searched for “cats”, “unicorns” and “rainbows”, then imported individual images onto my canvas. Within Design Space, I chose the “print and cut” option, and sent the designs to my printer (which I loaded with the Printable Vinyl paper).

Above: As you can see above, my printer was running out of ink, but still, I made the best of it and loaded this into the Cricut Maker 3 to cut out.

Above: We had a plain Muji water bottle, so the seven-year-old started with one sticker.

Above: Soon it became filled with stickers, and I must say, I think it looks pretty good! The printable vinyl is fun to play with, but it’s not the best material for a water bottle, because it’s being printed on with standard printer ink (a Canon, in this case) — so when these stickers get wet, they will inevitably smudge. I would recommend pasting these stickers on a notebook for journaling, and using Cricut’s waterproof vinyl materials for use on a water bottle. Nonetheless, the kids had fun and I can see the potential of this project.

CAPS

Above: I also had on hand the Cricut Hat Press and I absolutely love and had fun with this machine! It’s a hot iron press that uses heat to transfer designs onto hats, with professional results.

Above: For this project, I wanted to create a series of “Smiley Face” cap designs. I found a whole bunch of images in Design Space, and laid them out to the ideal size for Cricut’s Trucker Cap.

Above: The Trucker Cap is sold in a pack of three, and comes in a classic black-and-white colour combination.

Above: I started off with one of the holographic iron-on vinyls for this project. This particular one is a Smart Iron-On Vinyl, so loads straight into the Cricut Maker 3 without the need for a mat.

Above: They cut out perfectly!

Above: I highly recommend the Cricut Basic Tool Set, which has these weeding tools and more. They will make your life so much easier when it comes to removing the cut-outs from your sheets.

Above: I ended up using the Smart Iron-On Vinyl in Black for a monochrome aesthetic. Here’s one of my designs (it’s upside down on purpose) that I pasted down with Cricut’s Strong Heat Resistant Tape. Here’s a tip when making caps: be generous with the tape because you don’t want your design to shift during the heating process, or to get wrinkles!

Above: Here I am about to iron on another smiley with the Hat Press.

Above: Completed hats to reflect my different moods (happy, and unsure if I’m happy).

Above: The Hat Press works with tons of materials — not just Cricut’s Smart Vinyls. I found an iron-on patch and heat-pressed it on to another cap. The kids love this third cap I made.

The next thing I want to try is Infusible Ink. These come as patterned transfer sheets or markers, and it’s the markers that I find intriguing. You can load a colourful image into Design Space, then attach a marker to the Cricut Maker 3, and it’ll draw or colour out the image onto a piece of paper. You can then use the Hat Press to heat transfer the design onto a cap! The results I’ve seen online are professional and impressive, hence I’m looking forward to trying this soon.

FABRIC

I love sewing. But I don’t particularly love cutting very small holes in the wool felt material that I like to work in. It’s not just hard to cut, but it’s messy too (the fur gets everywhere. Imagine cutting up your mohair cardigan; that kind of mess). I chose the Cricut Maker 3 because it can cut thicker pieces of fabric (you might need to change the Knife Blade depending on the material you’re cutting).

Like all projects, I started a new canvas in Cricut Design Space, and imported my pattern.

Above: Fabrics need to be pasted onto a Cricut mat in order to be loaded into the machine. For the wool felt I was working with, I chose the StrongGrip mat to ensure that the fabric stays put during the cutting process.

Above: How amazing is this? The Cricut Maker 3 precisely cut out the shapes for the item I’m making. Can you guess what it is?

Above: See the small holes in the small pieces of felt? Those would have been a nightmare to cut by hand.

Above: I hand sewed a miniature Kelly bag with the pieces I cut out with the Cricut!

Above: And this bag is for my Blythe. Next up… I’ll be cutting (with the Cricut Maker 3, of course) and sewing a felt cap for her.

5 Major Things To Know From Apple’s ‘Wonderlust’ Keynote Where They Unveiled The New iPhone 15 Lineup

It’s the one Keynote that iPhone users anticipate year after year after year — and, finally, that day has arrived. Apple‘s annual Fall announcement, this year called the Wonderlust Keynote, which debuts the new iPhone 15 series consisting of the iPhone 15, iPhone Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

These all come with upgraded specs, naturally, and with a couple of confirmed rumours, including the smartphone’s shift towards USB-C charging. Then, there’s news of the tech giant’s smartwatch lineup as well, particularly the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2.

Ahead, a roundup of all the most exciting announcements from the event — particularly, the key points that’s got everyone talking.

1. The entire iPhone 15 lineup now offers USB-C charging

The biggest change, unsurprisingly to those who have been religiously following Apple rumours, is that the iPhone 15 now offers USB-C charging, something that consumers have been demanding for a while now.

The shift, as discussed by experts, is probably a result of the European Union’s new laws requiring universal USB-C charging compatibility by 2024; we think it’s great news as you won’t have to tug around different charging cables or scramble to find a lightning port in dire situations. Apple also announced that the AirPods Pro will now come with a USB-C charging case as well. Yay one-cable convenience!

2. Apple’s Dynamic Island feature is available across all models, new to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus range

Both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus now feature Apple’s much-touted Dynamic Island, a feature that was introduced in the previous lineup but only available to the higher-end Pro and Pro Max models. This means we get to say goodbye to the iPhone notch, and welcome a feature that lets us interact with important alerts and Live Activities such as Maps directions and real-time updates on food delivery and ride sharing.

More on the iPhone 15? A more powerful performance with the A16 Bionic chip that Apple had previously included with the 14 Pro. The iPhone 15 has a 6.1-inch display, while the iPhone 15 Plus boasts a 6.7-inch display, with a 48MP main camera that shoots sharp, vivid pictures and videos; there’s also a new automatic Portrait mode feature that can detect when a person or subject is in frame so the phone’s camera can capture depth information for a bokeh effect, available across the iPhone 15 lineup.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be available in five new colours: pink, yellow, green, blue, and black. In 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage capacities, starting at $1,299 and $1,449 respectively.

Pre-orders begin Friday, September 15, 8pm, with availability beginning Friday, September 22.

3. A new Action button for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, designed with aerospace-grade titanium

This is Apple’s lightest Pro line to date, designed with state-of-the-art aerospace-grade titanium for enhanced durability, while they sport contoured edges, a refined brush texture, and the thinnest borders we’ve seen on an iPhone. The more muted colourways do make them feel like the serious siblings of the bunch — and they probably are, what with the responsibility of representing Apple’s best-in-class, top-of-the-line smartphone technology.

One of the interesting changes to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone Pro Max has to be a new customisable Action button, in place of the previous single-function Mute button, which lets users personalise their iPhone experience. We’re now able to toggle between ring and silent, in addition to other options such as quickly accessing the camera or flashlight; activating Voice Memos, Focus modes, Translate, and accessibility features like Magnifier; or using Shortcuts for more options.

On to the main features though — the iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max are now run by the high-powered A17 Pro processor to handle its advanced functions, which allows for smoother graphics, as well as more immersive AR applications and gaming experiences. Then, there’s the best iPhone camera system yet, with a 48MP main camera built exclusively for the Pro lineup, and a new 24MP super-high-resolution default; the iPhone 15 Pro Max also comes with a 5x telephoto camera, the longest optical zoom ever on an iPhone.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be available in four new finishes, including black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium, and natural titanium. In 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage capacities, from $1,649 and $1,999 respectively.

Pre-orders begin Friday, September 15, 8pm, with availability beginning Friday, September 22.

4. Apple Watch Series 9 is more powerful than ever, with a new touch-free ‘double tap’ gesture

Apple’s latest Watch Series 9, comes with new features, including an upgraded S9 SiP watch chip that’s more powerful than ever to increase its performance capabilities, a brighter display, and on-device Siri that can access health and log data. One of the big announcements though, is actually an environmental milestone for the tech company, as customers are able to choose a carbon-neutral option of the Apple watch upon purchase.

Another key feature is a new Double Tap Gesture, where Apple Watch users can easily control their device without touching the display; all you need to do is tap the index finger and thumb together twice to perform common tasks such as answering calls, play and pause music, snooze an alarm, or take a photo with the Camera Remote.

The Apple Watch Series 9, available in 41mm and 45mm sizes, in starlight, midnight, silver, (PRODUCT)RED, and a new pink aluminium case, as well as stainless steel in gold, silver, and graphite cases, starts at $599.

The Apple Watch SE is available in 40mm and 44mm aluminium cases, and is carbon-neutral when paired with a new Sport Loop band, starts at $379. Apple Watch Hermès is available in stainless steel in silver and space black.

The new Apple Watch lineup can be ordered today, with availability beginning Friday, September 22.

5. An upgraded Apple Ultra Watch 2, paired with carbon-neutral bands

Apple also unveiled its second-gen Apple Watch Ultra, with similar new features added to their rugged smartwatch, including the new S9 SiP and double tap gesture. There’s also a brighter 3,000-nit display, and even with the new advancements, we’re getting a healthy 36-hour battery life with regular use, and 72 hours in low power mode. Carbon-neutral bands are also introduced as part of Apple’s commitment to be carbon-neutral across its entire business by 2030.

As with its previous version, the smartwatch has been tested across extreme altitudes and depths, that is, from 500 meters below sea level, up to 9,000 meters so you can take this to the world’s tallest peaks. The watch is also approved for water sports, along with recreational scuba diving to 40 meters — and now freediving — with the Oceanic+ app that allows you to access critical diving data.

Apple has also designed a new Modular Ultra watch face to take advantage of the large display, which goes all the way to the outer edges to present real-time data, including seconds, altitude, or depth.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2, $1,199. Available in 49 mm, is carbon neutral when paired with a new Trail Loop or Alpine Loop. It can be ordered today, with availability beginning Friday, September 22.

Cartier’s Most Classic Leather Bags Go Mini

Small is in — just look at Cartier‘s selection of signature bag designs, now in micro sizes that you can hold in the palm of your hand. After all, there’s something to admire about a girl who doesn’t need to carry about excess baggage, emotional or not, all the time.

Ideal for a night about town, and good for a pair of earbuds plus one lipstick of your choice, the range of mini bags are essentially tiny versions of the bags in the C de Cartier and Panthère de Cartier families, where you’ll notice the Maison’s emblematic codes across jewelled clasps, all scaled to size to match these new proportions. This includes Cartier’s logo fashioned into a metal and enamel design, a moulded ring of a panther’s profile, and another with a panther’s head done with graphic lines.
