If there’s anything the cast of Selling Sunset has taught us, it’s that Los Angeles is one glamorous city, filled with million-dollar mansions that face spectacular ocean views and luxurious indoor-outdoor living, pool included, for one to truly enjoy the high life. Well, you can say that it does present a highly-romanticised version of L.A., but that isn’t going to stop CHANEL from being inspired by the City of Angels.
The latest Los Angeles-coded CHANEL Cruise 2023/24 collection spans across decades and even genres, from the mini shorts and sporty-chic leg warmers of the 80s, seen today on roller skaters at Venice Beach, to Hollywood glam and disco fever, where we get star-shaped leather bags, an exquisite sequin dress speckled with iridescent double “C” motifs, and a black and gold chevron jumpsuit created by carefully assembling an array of dazzling sequins.
“The Cruise collection campaign combines the two worlds of Los Angeles: the old-world glamour of the Hollywood movies we love and the health-conscious colourful sporty vibe of Venice Beach,” said long-time CHANEL photographers, Inez & Vinoodh, on their sun-drenched campaign imagery, which takes us to basketball courts and surf spots along the Venice boardwalk.
As for the accessories, designed by Creative Director Virginie Viard, and first appearing on the runway at Shenzhen, these see soft pastel colours across both tweed and quilted leather that evoke the city’s breathtaking sunsets, paired with iridescent details that can be spotted by keen-eyed collectors; there’s even a pair of roller skates to take to the rink! Then, there are Walk of Fame-worthy bags of glitter and gold, alongside bow-topped heeled Mary Janes and disco ball pumps, as well as body chains on bare skin, styled to reflect confident Californian style.
