Light Phone III pre-orders finally begin shipping

After announcing the Light Phone III back in June 2024 with an expected shipping date of January 2025, Light is finally shipping the third iteration of its smartphone. While still designed to cut out distractions like social media, the Light Phone III offers users more creature comforts that we might be used to, like a front and rear camera as well as NFC support for possible future contactless payment abilities.

The Light Phone III uses a new matte OLED display and adds support for 5G connectivity, a USB-C port and a rear flash, with everything encased in a metal frame. There’s also a dedicated shutter button added, with a two-stage shutter release which should make it feel almost as if you’re using a proper camera to take photos.

The battery compartment comes with a removable cover made with Sony’s SORPLAS recycled plastic, which should make future battery replacements easier. Running on LightOS, there are a bunch of useful “tools” such as Alarm, Calendar, Directions, Music, Notes, Timer and more.

However, typical smartphone apps like Grab, Google Maps, WhatsApp, Spotify and more aren’t supported. Light is also adamant that we will never see social media apps, internet browsing, email, news or ads on the Light Phone, which makes sense since the company’s philosophy is to help users “go light” and enjoy quality time away from a smartphone.

PREORDERS WILL BE SHIPPED SEQUENTIALLY FROM 27 MARCH ONWARDS, WITH NEW PRE-ORDERS AT THIS TIME EXPECTED TO SHIP IN JUNE 2025. A LIGHT PHONE III WILL COST US$599 (APPROX. S$802) ON LIGHT’S WEBSITE. FOR MORE INFORMATION, CLICK HERE.
