Founded by Singapore-born artist Elizabeth Marlow, By Fable is a monochrome art studio that is rooted in heritage, minimalism and textile craft, and where each piece has been designed to tell a story, capture a memory and its meaning, through texture, form and monochrome expression.
Having grown up in Singapore where she was surrounded by Chinese calligraphy and ink, Elizabeth was influenced to combine this with a European minimalist sensibility to create a monochrome style that is both tactile and timeless.
With an exhibition history that included solo and group shows in Singapore and abroad, Elizabeth has now opened her own first permanent gallery, By Fable at WEAVE, Resorts World Sentosa.
“By Fable was born from a need to create something tangible in a digital-first world,” said Elizabeth, “A fable is a story with meaning, rooted in tradition rather than fleeting trends. I wanted my work to carry that same permanence, telling stories through brushstrokes, textures and forms that endure.”
In line with its recent opening, By Fable will be conducting a series of monthly workshops to offer you a rare opportunity to explore the principles of ink illustration under Elizabeth’s guidance. Held in the new gallery, you will get a chance to experience her monochrome practice first-hand in an intimate setting while encouraging creativity and community with others.
The new gallery also presents Elizabeth’s artworks in a permanent space for the first time, where you can imagine how these art pieces would look in your own homes and offices.
Featured in the space are the Groundfire Collection, with pieces that combine ink, texture and coffee on canvas to evoke warmth, calm and quietly unstoppable energy; the Fluidity Collection, with pieces that capture movement and depth through layered monochrome brushwork; and Singapore-inspired fine art prints which showcase our local landmarks, botanics, sports and cocktails hand-painted in Indian ink.
