Sting returns to Singapore for the fifth time, performing at the Arena @ EXPO for his “STING 3.0” World Tour. This year, the “Every Breath You Take” artiste turns 74, and he has stripped back his full band set-up for a tight, three-piece combo, featuring his longtime collaborator, the virtuoso guitarist Dominic Miller, and dynamic drummer Chris Maas. The result is a sound that feels both raw and polished, and is a fresh take on a career’s worth of hits. This new form demonstrates Sting’s incredible evolution as an artiste, which only a legend of his caliber can pull off.
The Arena @ EXPO, as the chosen venue for this event, feels personal and warm. Sting’s masterful bass lines ring clearly throughout, and watching him perform in this intimate setting truly showcases his music, and it’s a nice change from watching the flashy theatrics from other concerts.
Sting and his band reinterpreted his timeless discography, which includes hits from The Police like “Roxanne” and “Message In A Bottle”, as well as other fan favourites like “Fields of Gold”, “Desert Rose” and “Shape of My Heart”. This was a performance for his adoring audience, that comprise a good mix of locals and expats alike. The crowd was there to hear and watch an artiste who has spent over four decades perfecting his craft, and that’s exactly what they got — a solid gold memory that’s one for the books.
