There are some days that you wake up and your skin is blotchy. You find unexplained patches of red on the cheeks and under the nose and it’s not a good look. Here’s where green comes in. The shade of green corrects the shade of red, and there are many great green-coloured beauty products to correct redness on the face. Maybe it’s time to add some green skincare and makeup to your beauty box. Here are our tried-and-tested recommendations.
JUNGSAEMMOOL Skin Setting Tone Corrective Base

What we love: This green cream is slightly richer in texture than other makeup bases, which results in slightly more coverage. The green disappears on contact with skin, and blends in resulting in a very natural tone. It sits very well under foundation and has SPF 50+ / PA+++ so you can skip the sunscreen step (just remember to apply this on your neck as well).
Claims: The formula is infused with Centella Asiatica extract (Cica), which further helps to soothe redness, and it speeds up skin healing and repair. Suitable for sensitive skin.
Made in: Korea.
Priced at $37.05 (UP. $39, 40ml), available online at jsmbeauty.sg.
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in Mint

What we love: Laura Mercier has undoubtedly one of the best loose setting powders; they are finely milled, pillow soft, and work beautifully to set makeup. This month, they launch their best-selling product in a mint shade. It’s perfect for correcting redness whether you have makeup on or not, plus it helps tone down shine and redness throughout the day (I like to transfer a small amount to a travel-sized powder container to take along with me when I travel or go out). Dust this on with a face brush, or tap the skin with a fluffy powder puff.
Claims: Hydrates skin, sets makeup for 16 hours, is talc free and good for normal to dry skin.
Made in: France.
Priced at $99 (20g), available at Sephora.
Clarins SOS Primer in Green

What we love: This is a vibrant green cream that reduces and corrects redness on the face. We found this extremely waterproof, which means it’ll be sweat-proof as well, so your makeup will hold well on the face the entire day. While it’s a face primer, this can be used as a spot treatment on red areas anytime your face flares up. There’s no SPF in this formula so it’s good for those who want to keep their makeup primer and sunscreen separate.
Claims: The formula is 95% skincare and made with organic leaf of life extract and Clarins-exclusive Microbiota Complex (two marine algae combined with saffron flower polyphenols) that keeps the skin microbiota balanced. It also soothes skin and boosts hydration.
Made in: France.
Priced at $61 (30ml), available online at clarins.com.sg.
Laneige Skin Veil Base_Ex in Mint Green

What we love: This makeup base has a fluid texture, and gives a radiant finish. It’s also the only formula here that contains BHAs/Salicylic Acid, which helps with blemish-prone skin. One small pump is all you need for full face coverage, meaning this bottle will go a long way. There’s SPF 28 PA++, which is just nice for low UV exposure indoor days or when there’s overcast weather and minimal sun.
Claims: The formula consists of anti-oxidant substances, oil-resistant powder and pine needle extract to keep makeup fresh for hours.
Made in: Korea.
Priced at $56 (30ml), available online at Sephora.sg.
Givenchy Prisme Libre Skin & Color Serum Primer

What we love: First impression — the bottle is stunning. It looks and feels expensive, and the green tint is subtle; not bright and intimidating, but muted and almost neutral. But the best thing about this primer is its texture. It really feels like a comforting serum on the skin. It sinks in and makes skin feel immediately hydrated while toning redness down.
Claims: There’s Vitamin B5 and Micro-Hyaluronic Acid infused into the formula.
Made in: France.
Priced at $100 (30ml), available online at Sephora.sg.
Tarte Shape Tape Corrector in Green

What we love: The texture is rich and creamy just like the brand’s iconic Shape Tape concealer, and best of all, it can be spot applied with a small brush to conceal and tone down the redness of blemishes. If you’re prone to breakouts, this should be a staple in your makeup bag.
Claims: Neutralises and diffuses redness, hyperpigmentation and blemishes. Works for all skin tones.
Made in: USA.
Priced at $44 (6ml), available online at Sephora.sg.
Sephora Best Skin Ever Color Corrector in Green

What we love: This was the green product that surprised us the most. The texture sits in-between Tarte’s rich concealer style and Clarin’s primer finish; this one from Sephora is not too thick and not too fluid and is the perfect shade of green to correct redness on the face. We absolutely love its attached cushion applicator, which makes this so convenient and easy to use. Just twist a bit of product out, tap onto the skin, and blend with the sponge (do blend well because this shade turns out quite green on the skin). This is the one to throw in your makeup bag when you head out and know you’re going to turn red from drinking. Highly-recommended if you need spot coverage.
Claims: Conceals, evens and brightens the complexion for 8 hours, is non comedogenic and is dermatologist tested.
Made in: Italy.
Priced at $29 (5ml), available online at Sephora.sg.
Givenchy Prisme Libre Skin-Caring Corrector

What we love: Similar to Givenchy’s Serum Primer, this corrector has a wonderfully silky smooth and hydrating texture. It melts into skin and corrects redness without leaving any green tinge behind. A luxurious purchase good for drier skin types.
Claims: Offers 24 hours of hydration and neutralises redness.
Made in: France.
Priced at $63 (11ml), available online at Sephora.sg.
