Review: The OPPO Find N5 is Slimmer, Lighter and Smarter. Could this be the perfect foldable?

As much as I love my candy bar-style iPhone and the millions of cases I can use with it, flip phones and book-style foldables have won a place in my heart; and it all started with OPPO’s Find N3 that launched in 2023. I was particularly excited about OPPO’s collaboration with Hasselblad for the phone’s camera system, and the pictures taken with it didn’t disappoint. In fact, they were so good, we held an exhibition with print-outs of the photographs.

I captured some of my best mobile portraits with the Find N3’s Hasselblad system, and had a lot of fun playing with the filters. Also, every time I whipped out the phone, it was a conversation starter. Friends wanted to look at it and fellow photographers wanted to test out the Hasselblad lens.

Today, OPPO announces their latest flagship foldable, the Find N5 (the number 4 was skipped because it’s an inauspicious number), and this new model improves on the N3 in almost every aspect. Let’s start with the design.

DESIGN

The OPPO Find N5 is now the world’s thinnest book-style foldable (the HONOR Magic V3 held this title not too long ago); the Find N5 is just 8.93mm thick when closed, and 4.21mm when opened — which is as thin as the USB-C port can go. In fact, OPPO customised a special USB-C port to fit this new remarkable design. The phone is super light too at 229g.

We like that OPPO kept the sides flat, which has an industrial aesthetic and feels better in the hand. Other design elements include the Cosmos Ring Design that is now 20% slimmer than the previous generation, an outer screen with a 6.62″ traditional bar-style ratio, and an impressive 8.12″ inner screen that’s the largest for any book-style foldable phone.

OPPO is particularly proud of the inner screen’s crease; and they’ve been boasting their lack of an obvious crease compared to the brand’s competition.

The phone comes in Cosmic Black, which is a matte metal frame that ensures no fingerprints, and Misty White (featured in this article), that has a marbled, layered design referencing the brilliance of sunlit snow-capped mountains. Both have a premium look and feel; a design that you’d be very proud to carry with you and show off at fancy gatherings.

CAMERA

The Hasselblad Master Camera System is completely redesigned for the Find N5. There’s a 50MP main camera (21mm, f1.89), 50MP telephoto camera (70mm, f2.7), and an 8MP ultra-wide camera (15mm, f2.2).

For the Find N5, OPPO has included the AI Telescope Zoom feature, which was first seen in the brand’s camera flagship, the Find X8. You can shoot at 60x zoom, and the phone will enhance the image’s details so you get clearer and sharper pictures when you need to zoom in.

Telemacro Photography is now also possible, and you can focus as close as 10cm to capture the details in flower petals, leaves and anything you want a close-up of.

Hasselblad Portrait mode is needless to say, incredible. Skin tones are accurately portrayed, and the background has a soft, bokeh effect that’s natural and mimics the style of Hasselblad’s iconic medium-format cameras.

PRODUCTIVITY

With the Find N5, OPPO also introduces a super useful feature called O+ Connect for Mac. This is an app that can be downloaded and installed on a Mac computer, and syncs seamlessly with the OPPO phone. You can preview and transfer files between both devices, and even control your Mac remotely through the Find N5.

As thin as the phone is, OPPO has managed to pack in a 5600mAh battery, and it charges really fast too — it takes less than 50 minutes to bring the phone to a full charge. OPPO also claims that the Find N5 offers the longest battery life of any foldable, which includes 25 hours of continuous video streaming, or 7 hours of continuous gaming.

As expected with any new phone launch today, there are smart AI features; and with the Find N5, these include AI Document, AI Call Summary and AI Translation — and these get nicer to use with the phone’s dual screen.

The OPPO Find N5 comes with 16GB RAM + 512GB ROM, and will be available at the OPPO Concept Stores. Discover more at OPPO’s official website here. The device has a pre-order limited time offer price of S$2199 (U.P. S$2499), from 10:00 AM on 21 February 2025 until 11:59 PM on 27 February 2025.
