Swatch presents a limited-edition MoonSwatch crafted from OMEGA’s 18K Moonshine Gold

There are moments in history that are so extraordinary that they continue to shine across generations, and one of these iconic achievements was the first moon landing in 1969.

To commemorate this defining moment in time, Swatch launches the MISSION TO THE MOON 1969, a limited edition timepiece featuring a dial, hands, crown, and pushers crafted from OMEGA’s 18K Moonshine Gold, and limited to 1,969 pieces.

The gold used for this exclusive timepiece also dates back from the same time period, coming from old OMEGA spare parts that were melted in Swatch’s own foundry to create the OMEGA’s 18K Moonshine Gold.

More than aesthetic details, the use of gold on the dial as well as its design references OMEGA’s gold Speedster from 1969, a timepiece that was created to celebrate the success of the Apollo 11 mission.

Additional details that echo this and other commemorative models include the vertical satin dial finishing, the black Bioceramic bezel with a gold-coloured tachymeter, the gold beveled indexes with black lacquer, and the period-correct OMEGA logo and typography.

There are also two other subtle highlights that keeps the MISSION TO THE MOON 1969 gleaming from every angle.

The first is its battery cover, which features a golden Moon design with an anti-scratch coating, that displays the date of the moon landing and a footprint referencing the first step taken on the Sea of Tranquillity a.k.a. Apollo 11’s landing site.

The second highlight is that each chronograph is individually numbered, with its number engraved on the side of its case at the 9 o’clock position and finished with a touch of golden lacquer.

How to get your hands on one?

In order to get this exclusive timepiece, you’ll need to fill out an ESTA or Electronic Swatch Timepiece Application with 32 questions to answer — similar to the ESTA that many travellers are required to fill out before their travel to the USA.

These questions range from personal ones to trivia based ones, that include what the price of gold was in USD in 1969 and what year the OMEGA Speedmaster was chosen by NASA as its official watch.

Only a total of 1,969 people will get an ESTA approval from Swatch, which will allow them to purchase the limited edition timepiece.

The Electroic Swatch Timepiece Application is available now on swatch.com, and must be filled out and submitted by 21 July, 23:59 CEST (SGT 5.59am). Selected participants will then receive follow up instructions on how to complete their purchase and pick up their watch at a Swatch store.
