Chanel’s new Brightening Makeup Base is so good, it has taken over all our Primers

Two weeks ago, Chanel’s new ÉCLAT PREMIER skincare collection landed on our desk. The line consists of a cleanser, essence, and surprisingly, two makeup products: a concealer stick and a Brightening and Correcting Makeup Base, which we’re going to talk about here. This base is both skincare and makeup; and while there are two versions of it, they both do the same thing, just that one has a lighter texture and slightly less SPF.

We’ve been using the ÉCLAT PREMIER LA BASE SPF 40 / PA++++ since receiving it, and after 10 days of daily application, we can honestly say that our skin has never looked better during the day. The texture of the product is fluid and can be slathered on using the fingers, or brushed on with a face brush — both work and has its own sensorial experience.

But it’s the immediate difference to the complexion after the formula melts into the skin that we love; uneven patches look more even, spots appear lighter, and the face has a natural radiance to it that makes it look healthy, yet not shiny or oily. It’s like a small bottle of magic applied to the face before any other makeup goes on, and it’s a damn good start to our makeup routine.

And now because skin looks and feels better, we’ve skipped the heavier foundations and cushion compacts in favour of Chanel’s LES BEIGES WATER-FRESH COMPLEXION TOUCH that literally feels like water on the skin, and gives enough coverage to achieve an incredibly natural, yet evened-out finish.

This is the base and foundation we’re so happy to live with now. Skin breathes and it looks like you’ve got nothing on, but just good skin.

The ÉCLAT PREMIER LA BASE SPF 40 / PA++++ is available now online and at Chanel Beauty boutiques, priced at $116 (30ml). It’s certainly on the pricey side, but we endorse this and recommend it as one of the essential beauty products to invest in for your makeup box this year.
